First, I would like to thank you for not voting for the unconstitutional bills being presented at break-neck speed in Washington. We need more like you in congress. Please continue in your efforts.
Secondly - be aware, this is where the tone and tenor of this letter will change - I respectfully ask that you do more. Let me expand...
I and many people that I know here, feel an urgency for action. You see, my whole family and families of many I know, have taken time out of our busy, hectic, over-worked and over-taxed lives, to march and protest at venues both near and far. We have written letters, sent emails, sent faxes and made calls. Many of the people in my circle have become more active in the last couple years than they have been their whole lives previous.
Even after extensive effort and commotion on the part of "we the people", it seems that Washington has had their pointer fingers deeply planted in their ears and their eyes firmly shut. Many a United States representative has called me, my family and friends "whackos", "kooks", "extremists" and "tea baggers" because we dare demand a return to our founding principles. We are demanding that we be governed according to the Constitution of the United States of America and return our government to its "limited" design.
Unfortunately for you, you are part of "Washington." Most people that are just lowly citizens, like myself and my family, see Washington like we see the surface of Mars - It's interesting to peer upon but there no way to really interact in any meaningful way. We've sent vividly clear, loud and persistent signals, yet not response to show intelligent life exist there. I want to think that "my guy" is different. However, Washington keeps encroaching on or taking my family's and friend's freedoms and liberties. It seems that those encroachments happen with no objection from the people I consider the "good guys." If an objection does occur, passion seems to suffer for the cause of "civility." Mild disfavor isn't representing the anger "we the people" feel.
Sir, I would like to remind you and every citizen-appointed representative in Washington of the oath they took when they accepted the no doubt weighty responsibility of elected office:
"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God."
I would like to strongly suggest that simply assembling on the floor of congress and voting yes or no, is not enough to fulfill that solemn oath. Particularly with all the attacks on our Constitution.
I feel the Constitution that my forefathers fought and died for is under attack. The enemies may not be like the ones that carry weapons and kill, they may not even truly understand that they are enemies of the constitution - thinking they just want to tweak it just a bit for the sake of fairness - yet they are in fact, enemies of the Constitution.
Please do more to fulfill your oath. That's why "we the people" sent you to Washington.
Having asked that, I will not simply ask you to do more and leave it at that. I will lend some suggestion and direction:
1. Get in front of as many TV cameras as you can. Hammer home the unconstitutionality of what your collages are doing. Expose their agendas and put them on the defensive.
2. If the News people won't cooperate, YouTube and many online video services are there for free. Buy a Digital Video Camera and do it yourself, or ask a younger member of your staff to help. Yell form the top of the mountain.
3. Conservative radio is huge and there are outlets everywhere that will gladly help you. Their audiences are enormous and a message upholding and defending the Constitution would be welcomed and cheered.
4. Town halls. Meet with your constituents every chance you get. Record them and distribute among #1, #2 and #3.
5. Tea-Parties. It may not make you popular in the Washington circles, but "we the people" will reward you for your courage.
"We the people" are pleading for people to represent us and fulfill their oath of office. People yearn for someone to go above and beyond and to lead.
It seems that those in Washington are either not listening or aren't interested in representing their electors. All the while, many in Washington actually wonder why their poll numbers remain so miserably low.
Representative Diaz-Balart, I am respectfully demanding that you step up your game, lead and fight even harder than ever for your constituents, our country and my family. We all need your help and extra effort right now.
Respectfully,
XXXXXXX
XXXX, Florida
I am about to send this out, please review and suggest changes or additions.

I think you meant colleagues.
No I meant the first one...

Excellent. I'm getting ready to respond to a letter I received from Wasserman-Schultz in regards to the HC bill.
It's so ironic. A breast cancer survivor herself, she supported and voted for the HC bill in the House, then a week later the new guidelines about mammograms comes out, and she is against them. She needs to be reminded that she did this to herself.
By the way, expect to receive canned response #943 to your letter, something to do with how he supports a new statue honoring Florida manatees.

Very, very nice. I would like them to retake that oath, and memorize it. There are so many people that feel the way you do. It's obvious that there are quite a few Congressmen/Senators who are totally disregarding the will of their constituents. I wish they were mandated to vote the way their constituents want them to vote, rather than accept bribes.

Here is the letter I wrote to Wasserman-Schultz -
Dear RepWassermanSchultz -
Thank you for taking time from your busy schedule to reply to my letter regarding my concerns about a National Health Care Bill. Now I will take time from my busy schedule to respond in kind.
First, let me say that I, like many who oppose the National Health Care Bill, are NOT disagreeing that there is a need for Health Care reform in this country. What we are in opposition to is a Government run, Government mandated Health Care system. There are several reasons for our opposition. In general:
1. All social programs the Government has ever established and run have ended up costing more than predicted, become huge bureaucracies that are inefficient at best, end up full of wastes, fraud, and abuse, and usually end up doing more harm than good. You yourself admitted that Medicare/Medicaid is full of fraud and abuse.
2. It is obvious to so many of us that the Health Care bill passed by the house has little to do with actual Health Care but rather is a bill that will give Congress even more power, more taxing authority, and more control over the lives of American citizens.
3. Most important, it is UnConstitutional.
If you read and understand what is actually in the bill, there is no way you could consciously agree that it is good for all Americans, and furthermore, that it is even Constitutionally legal.
In your response, you state:
"There has been a great deal of misinformation about this legislation, so allow me to set the record straight: The Affordable Health Care for American Act will finally put you and your doctors– not the insurance companies - back in charge while responsibly reducing the federal deficit over the next decade and beyond. With this reform we will provide more stability and security for the hundreds of millions of Americans who already have health insurance, allowing them and their employers to keep their current coverage. This plan will finally provide quality affordable choices for the tens of millions of Americans without coverage, including a public option that will compete with private plans in a public insurance exchange to ensure that prices are at fair market values."
First, I do not believe that you are truthfully setting the record straight. What is the difference between "finally put you and your doctors– not the insurance companies - back in charge" and "finally put you and your doctors– not the government - back in charge"? You see, with the public option, the government will be acting as the insurance company, and in my experience with government run programs, this cannot be an improvement.
Second, and this is one I cannot really understand, how is spending almost $1 Trillion dollars over the next decade on Health Care reform going to reduce the Federal Deficit?
Third, how will I be able to keep my current health care coverage when my current health insurance company no longer exists? Your statement is misleading at best. How will any insurance company be able to compete against the government, who has an unlimited amount of money (and simply can demand more by raising taxes) and furthermore, that set the rules by which the game is played. And what makes you believe that private companies that offer insurance to their employees through private companies will continue to do so when they can have their employees get government insurance for less. Unless of course, once again, the government forces these companies to offer private insurance at higher rates, further forcing unfair competition. I'm sorry, Rep. Wasserman-Schultz, your statement is not believable.
You also state "I am also so proud that we are protecting seniors and strengthening the Medicare system by weeding out the waste, fraud and abuse that have caused the premiums of beneficiaries to skyrocket. In fact, economists have estimated that for every extra dollar that is paid into Medicare Advantage, only14 percent is passed on to seniors and 86 percent goes to profits or other costs."
You have been a member of Congress since 2005, over 4 years. How come you were not proud before and took action to protect seniors and strengthen the Medicare system by weeding out the waste, fraud, and abuse before passage of this bill? Why am I to believe that you will do so now? Actions speak louder than words.
Now, let's take a moment and discuss the Constitutionally of this bill. First, please name the article, section, and clause of the Constitution that justifies and gives Congress the power to pass this bill. Please tell me where in the Constitution it forces me to purchase health insurance? If you can specify such an authority, then by all means do so. If you cannot, then you are bound by your Oath of Office to oppose this bill (which you did not, so this you have violated your Oath).
I fully expect you to quote the Commerce Clause. Please tell me, how is forcing me and other Americans to purchase health insurance, or face fines, penalties, and the possibility of imprisonment, related to the regulation of Commerce? In fact, how is "insurance" and "health care" even defined as "commerce"?
What really scares me, is that in my entire life, and I am over 60, I have never felt so threatened by the Government that having been born in this country, as having been a law-abiding contributing, tax paying, citizen of this country, having served in the Military of this country, that having supported and defended the Constitution of this country, that now must purchase mandated health care insurance as a condition to remain a free citizen of this country, whether I can afford it or not, whether I believe I need it or not. This goes beyond all that this country was founded on, and give the government too much power and control over the lives of its citizens. If this bill is signed into law it will set a precedence, one that can only result in more and more government mandated laws that further control the lives of Americans, yours included.
In as short of a time as a week since the House passed the Health Care bill, we have already seen negative effects, one which hit very close to home for you. That is the new recommendation for Breast Cancer screenings. I see on your web site where you are opposed to this, and I fully agree with you. However, you must also realize that it is your support of the Health Care bill that is partially responsible for this new recommendation. It is derived from the fact that under the Health Care bill you so proudly sponsored and signed, actions must start to be able to comply, on a cost basis, with the conditions in the bill. Shortly after the breast cancer recommendations, a new cervical screening recommendation came out, reducing the number of screenings. Again, as a direct result of the bill you signed. As a breast cancer survivor, you should be outraged that this bill has already caused such a degradation to what was quality health care.
There are ways, Rep. Wasserman-Schultz, for instituting health care reform that will not bankrupt the county, that will not turn law abiding citizens into criminals, and that will actually result in better Health Care for all. Among those suggested are:
1) Eliminate the restrictions on private insurance companies selling across state lines.
2) Institute Tort reform, limiting the amount lawyers can receive from medical lawsuits.
3) Eliminate or reduce all the laws and restrictions the Federal Government has placed on health insurance companies and health care providers. Let the free market and competition determine the costs and quality of health care. It has worked in the past with numerous other industries.
Basically, true health care reform will be accomplished only when government becomes less involved in health care. Only then, will it become what it is meant to be, and that is the care and giving of health care. With government involvement, it will only become more of a financial burden on the American people and the economy, with more and more restrictions placed upon our freedoms.
Finally, Rep Wasserman-Schultz, and I ask this out of all due respect and understanding, as also my mother was a breast cancer survivor, if this government health care bill is passed into law, will you opt out of the Congressional Health Care program and enroll in and participate in the Affordable Health Care for America Act program you so proudly believe is best for all Americans. A simple yes or no answer will be sufficient.
Thank you
Respectively yours
Opsyscw

What I sent off to Colorado Congress and several others
DEAR CONGRESS
I want to start by telling you something about my family. My wife and I both work. Not because we need to cure eight hours of boredom each day, but because we have bills to pay and obligations to our family. We have never taken welfare, food stamps, or unemployment benefits. We are citizens of the United States of America. We were born in this country, as were our parents, grandparents, and great grandparents. I do not belong to a political party, but I vote in every election. My entire adult life has been spent in public service. I enlisted in the Navy just after high school. Not because I was too poor to go to college or too stupid to get a real job, but because I wanted to. For my grandfather who served in WWII, and my father who served in Vietnam. After leaving the Navy and a short time with a small company I went into law enforcement and have been here since. For the vast majority of my adult life I have sworn to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America. I am long past being scared for my country. I am angry and disgusted.
For too long, the citizens of my country have sat back, believing that you are looking out for the best interests of the country while using the Constitution as guidance. A few weeks ago I heard someone ask the Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi if she could point to the part of the Constitution that grants her the power to mandate healthcare to all Americans. She never answered. Instead she laughed and asked, "Are you serious?" Yes Speaker Pelosi, we are serious. This is not a joke and “We The People” are not laughing with you. She, like all of congress took an oath to support and defend the document that she dismisses as a joke. Have you forgotten whom you work for? Do you know who sent you to Washington and who can just as easily provide your final one-way ticket out? Those of you that no longer believe the Constitution applies in 2009 have a choice. You can immediately resign since you are no longer fulfilling the oath you took. If you don’t like the sound of that, the other choice you have is to plead your case to the American people and amend the Constitution. Neither choice is easy. It’s not supposed to be. If you can’t decide for yourselves, you leave no choice but for We The People to usher you to the unemployment line. At 17% total unemployment I’m sure you can find someone to show you where it is. We have all seen how good congress is with numbers so pick six people at random in a public place. Odds are one of them is struggling to find full time employment.
I, as with most Americans believe in the Constitution. When proposing a bill for law, the first question congress should ask is does the United States Constitution allow this law. If the answer is no, your first response is not to push it through before too many Americans notice. In case you need a reminder, most Americans can read too. We know how long it takes to read a 2000 page bill. If we didn’t have enough time to read it, we can expect that you didn’t even try. Putting this off on staffers and interns doesn’t fly. IT’S YOUR DUTY.
We The People are not stupid. The legislation you have tried to force down our throats for the past few years has nothing to do with helping We The People or encouraging and promoting a strong country. You wave a neon sign with one hand and hope we don’t pay attention to what the other hand is doing. Constitutionality doesn’t even seem to cross your mind. It’s about power and control. You steal the fruits of our labor. Taxing our blood, sweat and tears for an ever-increasing intrusion into as many aspects of our lives as you think you can get away with. We are told that paying taxes is patriotic. If, however, we question the manner in which you spend OUR money, we are unpatriotic, domestic terrorists, angry mobs, thugs, and Nazis. A Congress with a 20%+/- approval rating has made many of these comments.
My challenge to the United States Congress is simple. Every bill you vote on and every dime you spend, go home to your family. Look your children and grandchildren in the eyes and tell them you just mortgaged their future for a little more power. Tell them that you put a bounty on every penny they will ever earn because you needed to buy a vote. Tell them you had to ignore the United States Constitution today because this bill was just too important.
Pay attention to We The People. We are tired of your pet projects. We are disgusted with the back room deals and pay-offs for votes. Your circumvention of the Constitution will not be tolerated. If you can’t clean up your act then you leave We The People no choice. My family and friends have committed to voting, campaigning, and donating to ensure that you couldn’t even be voted in as town dogcatcher. We the People are tired. We are over-taxed. We are sick of being told that we don’t know what’s good for us. That Washington knows best. By politicians that can’t face their own voters. Cap and Trade, Health Reform, TARP, Stimulus, Recovery Packages………..ENOUGH!!!!!
After the attack on Pear Harbor on December 7, 1941, it is believed that Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto said, “I fear that all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with terrible resolve.” Just to be clear, We The People are awake and our resolve is building.
THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION WAS FOUGHT OVER MUCH LESS!!
