    Default Can God...?

Raise the dead? Any exceptions if your answer is yes? Why not if your answer is no?

I'm going somewhere with this question but I'm curious first as to who commits to what answer...
They're not terrorists. They're just people bitterly clinging to their guns and Qurans.

If you accept the notion of God's omnipotence, then by that criteria one would have to say yes.

    Already done:

    John 11

Jesus Raises Lazarus From the Dead
38 Jesus, once more deeply moved, came to the tomb. It was a cave with a stone laid across the entrance. 39 “Take away the stone,” he said.

“But, Lord,” said Martha, the sister of the dead man, “by this time there is a bad odor, for he has been there four days.”

40 Then Jesus said, “Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?”

41 So they took away the stone. Then Jesus looked up and said, “Father, I thank you that you have heard me. 42 I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here, that they may believe that you sent me.”

43 When he had said this, Jesus called in a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!” 44 The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face.

Jesus said to them, “Take off the grave clothes and let him go.”

    Matthew 9

18While he was saying this, a synagogue leader came and knelt before him and said, “My daughter has just died. But come and put your hand on her, and she will live.” 19Jesus got up and went with him, and so did his disciples.

    <snip>

23When Jesus entered the synagogue leader’s house and saw the noisy crowd and people playing pipes, 24he said, “Go away. The girl is not dead but asleep.” But they laughed at him. 25After the crowd had been put outside, he went in and took the girl by the hand, and she got up. 26News of this spread through all that region.

Of course she can, now lets hear the stinger.

Ok, here's where. I'm going. If you believe God can take a lifeless lump of flesh and breathe life into it, then why couldn't God first create the body and then breathe life into it? I've read many posts from Christians who believe and claim evolution is a fact. If God can restore life in an instant, why use evolution, a process claimed to take billions of years, to bring us into existence?

I'll jump ahead and ask about other miracles attributed to God which defy the laws we accept as unbreakable:
God can defy gravity, even the orbits of celestial bodies. God can control the weather. God can shift continents. God can cause bodies of water to rise and part. God can darken the sun and cause earthquakes and floods. Yet, many Christians deny his ability to create everything in 6 days. Why?

Because the evidence he left behind tells us he did use evolution and took millions to billions of years to do it. Otherwise the evidence God left is a lie meant to deceive us.

    This is a fallacious argument.

No Christian denies that God CAN create everything in six days.

What those Christians who believe God used evolution as his creative process say is that there is no evidence that God DID create everything in six days, and that there is much evidence that he DID use an evolutionary process that took billions of years.

If you want to have a good discussion, it is best you not start off with a fallacious argument.
    • The unexamined life is not worth living.
    • Wisdom is knowing how little we know.
    • The arguments stay the same...only the sides making those arguments change.

If God wants leaves to fall to the ground why doesn't he just put them there?

If God wants people to speak why are born without the ability to?

If God wants gasses to rise and solids to sink why didn't He just create gasses higher than solids?

A great joy is coming to know God through scripture. Question: In scripture does God always work instantly?

If there is joy in getting to know God through scripture, is the joy any less in coming to know Him through science as well? If so, why?

Why create a world that relies on processes that are illogical and bound to "miracle"? With regards to the last question of "why" people believe in the scientific theories over the biblical, is that there is a lot of evidence for those theories.
