Is it the role of our government to run the country like a charity?
This really seems to be the real question to ask regarding the immigration debate. Listening to Democrats this seems to be their philosophy on how government should shape immigration policy. While many citizens of this country believe that immigration policy should be merit based and be in our best interests. So is it the role of government to run the country (with a 20 trillion dollar debt) like a charity?

I think a lot of the recent hoopla over immigration is due to Donnie kicking out refugee groups who have been here for years.

Nor do I. Never said any thing like that in the OP. I think that Trump is an *******, but I do believe that there are legitimate questions that have been raised over whether many of the current aspect of immigration policy are in the countries best interests. Why does that have to be such a partisan issue?

Yes. Was income tax passed because of influx of immigrants? If i am not mistaken the general cause of government welfare programs was the Great Depression.
Yes things have changed since then. The argument that people come here to be on welfare has to be discussed. I know that these people exist. Not everyone comes here to work and to grow along with this country. However, i believe (and of course this is a feeling) a country of immigrants can continue the policy and let capitalism sort it out.
There is nothing wrong with new immigrants being on social programs. But there is something with them staying on them forever And i believe that social programs need to be re-examined not the immigration policy

Same reason unemployment is high in rural areas. Poor Americans don't want to move to where the jobs are.

We should also not be importing from any country with which we are at war. Meaning they have declared war on us.
