Default Confidant of Pope Francis condemns some ‘evangelical fundamentalists’

A close confidant of*Pope Francis, writing Thursday in a Vatican-approved magazine, condemned the way some American evangelicals and their*Roman Catholic*supporters mix religion and politics, saying their worldview promotes division and hatred.

The Rev. Antonio Spadaro, editor of the influential Jesuit journal La Civilta Cattolica, said a shared desire for political influence between “evangelical fundamentalists” and some Catholics has inspired an “ecumenism of conflict” that demonizes opponents and promotes a “theocratic type of state.

Pretty hard not to diagram with what he is saying.

Spadaro specifically criticized the far-right Catholic American media organization ChurchMilitant.com. Spadaro said the media outlet framed the presidential election as a “spiritual war” and Trump’s ascent to the presidency as “a divine election.”

I was not aware of the above that is just some good old fashioned crazy there.

There is a lot of disparate notions floating around in these statements, so let's try to pick them out and see what we can make of it.

First of all, there has been a lot of heavenly associations with the POTUS. The dome of the capital has Washington ascending into the heavens. People have suggested that many presidents were divinely chosen, including people who otherwise don't believe in God. I believe there was a similar group for Obama.

Having said that, it would be as unwise for anyone who links liking Trump because of his positions and someone who thinks Trump is divinely chosen. It would be the same as trying to link those who support Israel because it is the only democracy in the region and those who support Israel because they think that in doing so they can cause the second coming to happen.

The demonization of opponents has not occurred with Trump supporters, especially Catholic Trump supporters.

The only thing this has done is to make the anti-subsidiarity, anti-pro-life, Trump hating liberal Catholic salivate in the false idea that the Pope is supporting them and thus their visions for a pro-abortion, socialist, and yes godless one world government where government agencies can decide on the fate of infants without annoying popes telling them that their decisions are wrong.

What we are witnessing is the divine example of the Peter's principle, the notion that a religious order rises to its highest level of incompetence. (Can you tell that this Secular Franciscan doesn't have a high opinion of Jesuits?) I'm not demonizing anyone but please, can't they just shut up, they are confusing the laypeople with Jesuit thinking.
    Silly Franciscan, liberals aren't socialists.

One world government? Tzor has now entered cartoon country.

Posts like this make me reconsider whether I should call myself a Catholic. DRS' posts (not him) strike me as somewhat sycophantic. The posts made by tzor, on the other hand, give the feeling of something toxic festering below the surface.

Then what's the purpose of God establishing government since their behavior is their own choice or free will and not strictly controlled by God.

Can it be the government God established is Israel based on the covenant He made with Abraham.

And or the government God established is a spiritual one with Jesus Christ as ruler over the kingdom of the righteous.
