http://www.nydailynews.com/news/poli...icle-1.2130332
The USS Gabrielle Giffords (LCS-10), an Independence-class (Trimaran design) littoral combat ship, was christened and launched on February 26. Ship's sponsor was Roxanna Green, mother of Christian Taylor Green.
The ship is scheduled to be delivered to the Navy in August 2015.

CORRECTION:
NOT launched. Rather it was floated out from its construction facility to a drydock. Launching will be in a few more weeks.

Rats. I was hoping this ship would be cancelled before this embarrassing naming would come to pass.
Giffords only connection to the Navy is that she married a Navy astronaut.

So... is it armed at all? A warship named after an anti-gun nut... ridiculous.

Giffords and Kelly are both gun owners.

Liberals believe that a woman found raped and murdered is morally superior to one with a dead rapist at her feet and a gun in her hands.

Sure.. they own guns but want to restrict everyone else's rights to own them... just like every other liberal hypocrite politician.

No, trying to restrict others' rights to own guns does...

When it comes to ship names, I have no problem naming one after an inspirational figure like Gabby Giffords. She exemplifies strength and determination.
If you hate anyone because of your faith, you're doing it wrong.

She also sponsored a number of pro-military bills.

What? She was a public figure and knew there was someone stalking her. So she glibly plans a public appearance with little security.
To make her into a heroine because of her own poor perception and planning puts her in the same category as Hillary and Benghazi.
I was aghast at all the publicity over this poor, sweet, innocent, (naïve?) woman - are we in that much need for 'heroes'? She managed to get shot? NOT heroic!
THEN - all the follow on falderal with the president and other politicians piling on was just sickening.
Finally, to throw out a long history of ship naming conventions to provide some more PC bull **** was despicable.
I could have understood naming some local feature but, a warship???
We are losing it!

No. They don't.
You should check out their Foundation's website as I have been doing.
It's really sad that only because his wife was shot in the head most Americans would not know of Mark Kelly.
But those that did would see him to be a real patriot - decorated combat naval pilot with 20+ years of service and four-time Space Shuttle astronaut.
It's heartbreaking that some people have turned him into a villain.

That bolded part is a little "out there" my friend. Gotta link that she "knew" she was being stalked and then, as you suggest, pretty much dared someone to shoot her (not to mention the folks that actually died).
Oh, and I never have thought nor suggested she was a hero for getting shot.
And I did think it was a little weird when I first heard they were going to name a ship after her, but I just don't get verklempt about it either.
