Default There is no Congression "exemption" under ACA

So please stop claiming there is, it is a lie.

    http://www.rgj.com/article/20131001/...rom-Obamacare-

Here’s what the law’s text says: “Notwithstanding any other provision of the law, after the effective date of this subtitle, the only health plans that the Federal Government may make available to Members of Congress and Congressional staff with respect to their service as a Member of Congress or congressional staff shall be health plans that are — (I) created under this Act (or an amendment made by this Act); or (II) offered through an Exchange established under this Act (or an Amendment made by this Act).”
In other words, Congress must use Obamacare.

Also, there is nothing in the law that would force a business stop covering people under their normal healthcare plan and force them into exchanges.
The the claim: "If you like your current plan, you can keep it" is a lie for members of congress. At the time Obama said this, they did NOT have a plan under the language cited in the OP:

Here’s what the law’s text says: “Notwithstanding any other provision of the law, after the effective date of this subtitle, the only health plans that the Federal Government may make available to Members of Congress and Congressional staff with respect to their service as a Member of Congress or congressional staff shall be health plans that are — (I) created under this Act (or an amendment made by this Act); or (II) offered through an Exchange established under this Act (or an Amendment made by this Act).”

Congress has been forced to switch.

    Obama lied.

Correct. Except for Congress and their staff. The law specfically states that they will be
    'forced' into the exchanges.

The 'exemption' being discussed is whether or not Congress will still be able to get the employer subsidy that is offered through the FEHP. Or will instead get the exchange subsidies. This is where the special ruling took place----that they could continue to receive the employer subsidy instead of the exchange subsidy.

The thread is just about CONGRESSIONAL exemption. (And "exemption" is a word loosely used when people employ it regarding Congres.)

Here is an article from National Review about the "exemption".

    http://www.nationalreview.com/articl...care-john-fund

    Some points:

    1) The language in the OP was an amendment added by the (R)s. (One of the multiple amendments people highlight to show that (R)s had input in the writing of ACA.)

    2) Obama EO'd the language to be toothless. "President Obama used the quiet of the August recess to personally order the Office of Personnel Management, which supervises federal employment issues, to interpret the law so as to retain the generous congressional benefits."
