Seriously though, whats the point or advantage to this? Can't disabled people get on a bus, call a taxi, or get someone to drive them when they need to be driven?
No thanks, but I'm not ready to give up control to a computer/robot/whatever

Badkarma tells us it will result in more efficiency.Think about that for a moment. The economy is largely based on human inefficiency and I think this is what is most interesting about these technological developments, in how it has the potential to massively reduce all sort of labor sources. Most the labor performed these days is not skilled that a machine could not do it better, faster and cheaper. Just think for a moment about all the potential job loss associated with autonomous vehicles should they be come norm rather than today's novelty in Nevada. How does it make you feel?

This same argument was made against the printing press, the cotton gin and the assembly line.

What does that mean we should stop progressing? Keep everything the same and never change? That has been the way our society has worked since its inception. From the printing press, to the cotton gin, to the textile mills to the assembly line, to the automated assembly line, to the automobile, to the ATM, to those auto checkouts, and eventually automated cars. That is life, you either adapt or deal with it. With every new advancement has added jobs in other sectors too.
