A question for the college students attending political rallies ...
Some 40 years ago our environment was a mess.
Senator Gaylord Nelson proposed a series of 'teach-ins' which eventually became Earth Day.
This is now celebrated in 175 countries.
Today our (and the world's) economy is a mess.
No one seems to understand how to get it staightened out.
Moreover, so much of the world's population has little knowledge of how it works.
So my question is ....
Which one of you will become the next Gaylord Nelson?
Can you save the economy for the next generations like the environment has been transformed?
When are you going to start?

The environment NEEDED a cleanup - now its the ECONOMY - and we're not stupid!
What will future generations say if we don't do something on the same scale?William Pitt the Elder (he was British Prime Minister from 1766 to 1778) recognised the “power problem” when he said, “Unlimited power is apt to corrupt the minds of those who possess it.”

All of which is what is killing us, bringing the nation to economic ruin.
Like I observed in that other thread: gold prices seem to go up as "stupid" increases in DC; and, then I asked if anyone expected a sharp decline in "stupid" as a way to suggest what'll likely happen to gold prices for the foreseeable future.Standup Philosopher

I agree completely. Take the US as an example. Both political parties are actively and aggressively pushing the idea that their party has all the answers if voters will give them power in Washington. Both sides offer us expanded government, fewer personal freedoms, increased spending and increasing debt. When both sides of the political aisle agree that central government planning and control is key to the future of the US then there is no way in hell we will ever get a conservative solution in the forseeable future.

I'm not 100% sure why the question is aimed at college students. How did a bunch of 20 year olds ruin the economy? How about asking the boomers if there is any among them that are willing to clean up the mess they created?

I aimed this at college students because Obama is obviously targeting them - with the same old Hope & Change BS.
If anyone is going to start a movement to clean up the economy it should be the youth, just like it was for the environment.
Why? Because THEY are the ones who have the longest to life in the situation we have ahead of us.William Pitt the Elder (he was British Prime Minister from 1766 to 1778) recognised the “power problem” when he said, “Unlimited power is apt to corrupt the minds of those who possess it.”

They didn't create pollution either.
They may be a small block - right now,but if THEY feel the 'solution' is more of the same, they will be the ones crying later.
If they are paying attention, they will notice how many grads are NOT getting the jobs they expected.
My point was that most of the country sees the problems as completely separate when, in fact, they are so similar that the same strategy is needed.
We didn't clean up the environment in a year, or even 10 years, but we STARTED - and kept at it.
Now we need to do the same with the economy.
The idiots in Congress (both sides) are refusing to change their well-feathered nests.

The economy won't be able to be fixed until all the boomers who wrecked it are gone. 20+ years.

That's it - the Obama model - BLAME SOMEBODY else, anybody, doesn't matter who.
Don't take responsibility for your OWN actions. Pass the buck - it never stops!
But tell me, what will you tell your grandchildren? What did YOU do to help stop the collapse, Grandpa?William Pitt the Elder (he was British Prime Minister from 1766 to 1778) recognised the “power problem” when he said, “Unlimited power is apt to corrupt the minds of those who possess it.”

At least we have reached a level of understanding of where each of us are coming from. If it (Government/Congress, etc)isn't favoring corporations, the rich, or passing social conservative policy...
Will there be a GOP revolt?
