What does free childcare have to do with anything.
I am talking about workers unemployment Insurance Benefits.
It is cash. And it was Approved.
I can see why they cannot approve more extensions under the guidelines vs new State stats.
But the accounts that were already approved should have already been funded and should be played out. As I said, in most cases this means about a month more.
The letter should have said, there will be no more approved extensions for you and this is your final balance.
What it did say is good luck, your funds have been retroactively disapproved, and removed. Have a nice week.
That is not the way business is done. If we allow the government to screw the end-user simply because they have the power to do so, then do not be surprised when you are next.

I am telling you that in California, people were given no warning except a letter stating that May 12th would be the final benefit day.
I have not read or heard anything about it before the letters started to hit affected homes.
That is not to say that there might not be some obscure article somewhere.
But the average Joe, even one who watches the nightly news, has heard nothing about it, and I suspect it is the same in the other States as well.
Unless they are mailing the article you linked to peoples houses in the name of the State, it is not sufficient to meet reasonable notice.
Further, I do not see how this was engineered to be approved and funded in chunks of 5 weeks or so, and now suddenly will be cut off based on a week notice.
This is an err towards the States side, and in breach of the fact that the citizen WAS approved at the time the benefit was awarded for X weeks.
This is the way it works, it is THEIR way, and they have modified it to snatch weeks back, which I doubt will find it's way back to the Federal Government.

Its actually quite funny.
I need to get my house painted.
I know a guy who is a union painter and currently doesn't have enough work.
I asked him for a bid and he came back with union labor rates (extremely high).
Don't mind paying a friend a little bit higher but it was like 3x higher.
I also have other things that need to be fixed up. Doesn't seem like these unemployed construction workers are really motivated to work for a reasonable wage.
I also know an unemployed computer programmer. They were making ~$100 an hour at their previous job. Offered them $20 an hour to build a website for a new business venture and they turned it down. Want to continue their 'funemployment'.
There is work out there but people need to be hungry for it.
The fact of the matter is that i couldn't care less about people getting 'cut off'. If they were unable to find *any* work within 2 years then they are not trying hard enough. They should have realized the clock was ticked the day they received their first check.

I hear you and I cannot argue with that.
However, I believe that the State handled this badly, and may have misappropriated some of the funds that were pre-approved and pre-funded.
And even if they did not, they are in breach of contract with those citizens who were assured that they were approved and funded, when they were not.
