Airshows 2012
I thought that some of you might be interested in going to see what your hard earned tax dollars have bought. It's also nice to meet some of our men and women in uniform and thank them for their services and sacrifice.

Thanks for the info, Skid.
The best Blue Angels show I ever saw was in San Francisco. The Angels took off from a carrier in the bay and did their show at fairly low level, out over the bay. I was watching from Coit Tower so most of the show was actually below me! That was an unusual perspective. After their show they landed back aboard the carrier. Sensational!

I wonder how long before the idea strikes Obama to discontinue military participation in air shows?
Perhaps he could do for the Blue Angles what he did for our space program?“It’s O.K. for Liberals to be protected by guns as they are good people and would never use them to kill kids. They use abortion for that.” - Rush Limbaugh

The one in Atlantic City is huge. It has been one of the most consistently attended events in a city where the other major draw - casino gambling - has been struggling.
I get a mini-air show from my coastal home south of AC, since the jets fly along the coast to regroup for the next maneuver.

I attended the Hill Field Airshow (Ogden, Utah) years ago with two of my granddaughters. I think they were most impressed with a female helicopter pilot. I still remember the Lockheed Constellation that made a couple of passes over the airfield before going on display.
There's a great aerospace museum too with some outstanding exhibits including an SR-71 Blackbird -- a truly impressive flying machine. It's right off the I-15 just south of Ogden and admission to the museum is free although donations are welcomed.
Their show this year is May 26-27. No shade to speak of, wear a hat.__________________________________________________

Unfortunately they discontinued the airshow in my town. sucks because there was on really huge parking lot on the flight path but off the airport grounds where we'd all assemble to watch. Nothing better than the Blue Angels in diamond formation coming directly overhead, full smoke, only a few hundred feet up. The only bigger rush is when the solo would do his full stall into full afterburn at ground level and he'd end up dragging the stall right over us. It would shake the teeth out of your mouth.

Both are classic birds. I think my personal favorite has always been the Beech Staggerwing. Here's a great picture:

You do know that the Space Shuttle program had a scheduled end date even before the first one flew? How much of other people's money should we spend on manned spaceflight?
Let's not forget who holds the purse strings. If conservatives really wanted manned flights they would fund them. Oh wait, that's another program congress cut funding on. Maybe with a $15T debt we might find it prudent to postpone that moon base.__________________________________________________

That must have been cool. I'm also going down to Andrews this year to see them fly. Hopefully the B-29 will make it this year. One of the few warbirds I haven't seen yet. I missed out on ever seeing a Blackbird fly and still haven't seen the B-1. I heard it's one of the loudest planes out there too.
