Put yourself in the shoes of the families of brave young warriors who paid the ultimate price when they see a ship being named after a congress critter just simply for political reasons. Please tell me that "Gabby" is more deserving than a brave hero that paid the ultimate price for their country.

Not sure exactly where the "Ship Battle Forces" number peaked, but the highest year end figure (during the Reagan years) was 594. It probably went over 600 at some point, but that would likely have been very briefly.
Interesting to note that, as of April 25, 2012, the "Ship Battle Forces" number is 283, with 251 being commissioned ships of the line. It bottomed out at 278 in 2007.
The current schedule of acquisition suggests that we have bottomed out and the number will stay generally in the 280 range over the next decade.

Levin's been calling him Barrack Milhous Obama for quite some time. Rush used that as well in a recent morning update.
