The film "Red Tails" . Anyone seen it? Patriotic or America bashing?

I have seen clips of the film and the flying sequences look well done - Mustangs, Forts and even an ME262. If the film is about the courage these brave men exhibited in combat, then, I plan on seeing it this weekend. If, however, the film is heavy on the Hollywood moralizing staple "I have seen the enemy and it is us" routine where the focus is on racism, portraying America's military as somehow morally equivalent to the Nazis, then I will wait until it appears on DVD and fast forward through the PC content (if it is too pervasive). I am in no mood to be "educated" by another Hollywood liberal. Please advise. Thanks!

I'd like to see it, but I fear Lucas will dumb it down with dialog aimed at 10 year olds as he has on most of his other films. I'm waiting for somebody I trust (like one of you guys) to see it first and give me an opinion.

Its your classic WW2 we rock film with a little period racial tension that was live in the era over all it was a good film,

If it's another film that shows how bad some white folks treated black folks a long time ago I don't want to see it at all. All this does is spread the devisiveness that is ruining race relations in this country. It's time for all Americans, no matter what color skin we have, to unite and fire the crooks that are running the government today before there is no more United States of America.

I haven't seen it, but as far as I can tell it is mostly a further expansion of the
story of the Tuskegee Airmen.
Brave men, good pilots, they deserve their story to be told.
I simply hope that it is told well and with some modicum of factual truth to it.

Good! I'm sold. Will see it today. It is a sad comment on today's society that we are compelled to suss out any political message in a WW2 film before seeing it. It is almost as if foreigners were making a film about Americans - in the case of Hollywood liberals, that is close to being correct.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but if you're expecting any level of historical accuracy from a movie about African Americans and their contributions to the war effort in the 1940s, racial inequality and tension is going to be an integral part of the story.

"A Soldier's Story" from 1984 was another good one. The movie was primarily about a murder investigation but race definitely played a major role in the story, because to leave it out would have made the whole thing unbelievable to point of farce.

I wasn't convinced about "Red Tails" - from the look of the trailer, I was afraid it was going to be like "Bad Boys" with P-51s. Good to hear it's not.

To even ignore or gloss over the racial inequality of the armed services and society during the time would be a gross dishonor to their contribution to the war effort and the history of our country.

Great movie. Nothing to fear from the liberals in Hollywood.

I just returned from seeing the film and it was great! The race divide was included in as much as it is important to the story but, overall the American WW2 military was treated with respect (a pleasant relief). Spielberg did not make this the center piece of the film, descending into America bashing, but rather focuses on the courage of the pilots - this being one of many obstacles they had to overcome. To do otherwise would have been a dis-service to ALL veterans, including the Tuskagee fliers, who were portrayed as God fearing American patriots (another plus). Thank you, Mr. Spielberg.

The fighting sequences were fantastic. My only complaint, and this is probably the Lucas influence - was the over the top gung ho talking by the pilots during the fighting scenes (I was expecting to hear a reference to "Beggars Canyon" from Star Wars it was so bad. LOL!!).

Those who saw it might have noticed a little tribute to the Great Escape (the scene where a German guard is standing right beside a hole where an allied prisoner is escaping near the woods). It is a literal copy of the original.

Lots of Warhawks, P51s, ME109s, ME2623s, forts and Nazis who were appropriately bad guys.

As for the Tuskagee pilots themselves, anyone seeing it would applaud their courage, not as "hyphenated Americans" but as "Americans". Real heroes deserving of the tribute.

As I said, a pleasant surprise. A thumbs up!!
