Romney Gaffe on Iraq War History
Oh, boy, Romney committed a rather embarrassing gaffe this morning in an interview with Chuck Todd on MSNBC regarding Bush's Iraq War. Said Romney,
"The president went in based on intelligence that they had weapons of mass destruction. Had he known that that was not the case, the UN would not have put forth resolutions authorizing this type of action, the president would not have been pursuing that course," Romney said. "But we did not know that." (http://www.politico.com/blogs/ben-sm...ry-108354.html)
But the UN never put forward any resolutions that authorized the Iraq War.
This is a rather bad gaffe. What is surprising is that, so far anyway, the news media are not making a big deal out of this.
Now, I'm not looking to make a federal case out of this, but Romney had better get a much better handle on this issue. He's lucky the media want him to win the GOP nomination.

You mean this resolution?

Did you READ the resolution before you posted this? It does NOT authorize the U.S. to invade Iraq. The U.S. didn't even push its own resolution on this; it withdrew it in short order. There was never a UN resolution authorizing the use of force for Gulf War II. There was for Gulf War I, but not for Bush Jr.'s war.

In fact, as the Wiki article itself notes, "While some politicians have argued that the resolution could authorize war under certain circumstances, the representatives in the meeting were clear that this was not the case."
Again, did you READ this link before you rushed to post it?

Anyone that supported that mistake and train wreck "gaffed" and may need to repent with all that blood on their hands.

If anybody watched MSNBC, I'm sure it would have been embarrassing.

Let's mention Obama's gaffe while we're at it. The media and most liberals have constantly repeated the gaffe.
Obama claims he created a timeline for troop withdrawal. But the troops left Iraq according to Bush's plan.
