Come join me in the cabin in the mountains. Come sit beside me and have a hot cup of coffee or hot cocoa. Listen to the crackling fire. Just relax and leave your cares behind. Maybe we will go for a hike in the woods. We will have to watch out for the bears. Later, we will sit on the porch, drinking sweet tea, listening to the crickets chirping in the night air.

Your cabin is really beautiful. I'm there! I'll leave the wild baby boys, the dishes, the laundry in the dryer and take a load off~
Thanks!
The original part of our farmhouse is a log cabin built in 1822. I wonder what this area looked like then... Can you imagine?
We really are travelers just passing through. So many stories told in things we find on the land and in the barn.
Letters! My daughter found one in the barn from a local fellow who died tragically awhile back. Seems a friend of his lived here at one time. We found a letter our ill-fated neighbor wrote when he was a young man overseas in the service. My husband gave it to his mother who still lives local. She was moved. The letter was in amazing condition. It looked like it was opened once, put back and forgotten for decades ..until the good Lord saw it was time to put it in her hands.
Blessings, all. I've got to get back to my old cabin and stir the stew that simmering on the stove.

Go right ahead! We are a family here! I can smell the hotdogs and marshmellows roasting now! I am listening intently, as you tell a chilling ghost story. All of a sudden, we hear a crunching of the leaves beside us! We turn in horror only to see your sweet, little dog. How could such a small animal make such a loud noise?

Log Cabin
Looking back I remember our log cabin in the pines
So many happy memories I can recall to mind.
A big round dining table with knobby looking feet
The food upon it was fit for any king to eat
By the window Granny sat in her chair of birch and cane
Watching for any company that might drive up the lane.
The toddler's would all try to climb on Granny's knee
While I watched the blackbirds eat the cherries from the trees.
I remember that relatives came to visit from afar
To gather in the parlor to hear Dad strum his guitar.
We all sat at the dining table, which was quite a feat,
Praised Granny for her cooking as they began to eat.
Those are the times that I remember at my own table now
Where the Granny is myself, and time has flown somehow.
But my memory hasn't dimmed so very much I find.
For it travels very often to our log cabin in the pines.

When I go up to NH with my family, we stay in Pittsburg up on Route 3 about 20 miles south of the Canadian Border.
I don't know the roads by name, but to get to Mt. Washington from Pittsburg it takes about 1 hour 15 mins travelling south... Route 3 to route 145 to route 26 to route 16. The entrance to the Auto Road is on 16.
The round trip from the place we stay to the Mt. takes about 5 hours, including hanging out at the top for a bit. It was only in the upper 50's (in the MIDDLE OF AUGUST) at the base of the mountain.
Good thing I had my heated gloves.

Now we stay on either side of the Kangamangus Highway which is at Rte 16. We are about 2 hour away from the south. I bet you needed those gloves.

So, jog your memory and post some of your cabin stories!
If the walls could only talk. An elderly gent stopped by here awhile back and told us he was born here. I'm sure this cabin saw many lives begin and end.
Our bedroom is in the loft where the beams and logs are exposed. I look up and think about the people who cut those trees and transformed them into a home. Did they ever imagine the cabin would stand in 2008?
The steps that go upstairs to our loft have an enterance way. I wanted a door for that space. One day my husband comes in with the original door. He found it in the barn. It is a beautiful antique. I could not have found a better fit! Doubtful the "upstairs" was part of the original structure, but who knows?
It really intrigues me on a daily basis~

Sometimes we take the beauty of God's creation for granted! I just love to soak it in!
too much we take many things for granted....we need to remind each other to slow down, take the time...smell the flowers, watch the sunsets, count the stars. remember when you were a kid and laid in the grass watching the clouds?? when was the last time you did that? I did it a few weeks ago and it was so much fun........:)

Is splunking involved? If so, count me out, lol! I'm not fond of dark, enclosed spaces with only one way out! However, if it's on the trail, count me in.
Happy Friday, Sis
