View Full Version : What Annoys You the Most In Traffic?

If you’re like me, you want to severely throttle the offenders who display any and all of the inconsiderate behaviors listed in this poll.
Of all the inconsiderate things that other drivers do,
what is the one thing that most makes you want to open up a can of whupass?
(On a side note:
Which, if any, of these inconsiderate behaviors are you occasionally guilty of?
You don’t have to answer this. )

I cannot stand for them to cut me off!
Of all the things listed in the poll, I'm not especially bothered by people who cut me off. I can usually anticipate these jokers, and avoid their stupid moves.
On the freeway, I hate tailgaters. Do they actually think they'll get there quicker by riding 10 feet off my bumper? Fortuately, of all the things listed in the poll, this is the one thing I can actually do something about. I slam on my brakes for a micro-second. That usually does the trick.
In town, I want to kill the people who crank up the sub-base on their super powered sound systems. (Well, maybe not kill them, but at least take a baseball bat to their cars.)
Of all the trials and tribulations Jesus endured, he didn't have to live with super powered sound systems that drive people to thoughts of bloody murder. What would Jesus do?

Not paying attention to the road is number one for me.
Make-up, cell-phone, eating what have you the one to two tons of mobile machinary may be designed to protect the occupant from his idiocy, but it does little to protect the ones you run into or the nerves of those you have near misses with.

You have to look for people doing the following here:
Thinking the stop sign means yield not stop.
Yellow and just turned red light is the same as green.
Red light usually means stop, but if it just turned red it is a caution light.
Green light is go, go, go and if you are not going it is HONK!!! Look for red light caution drivers.
People who drive down the wrong side of the street.

What is the most annoying for me is the people who use overegaggertated body language (no, not just flipping the bird) whenever someone does something to annoy them. You know-the hands up in the air, fists waving around in the air (yea, like they're gonna beat you up while your travelling 70MPH on the highway), or yelling at the top of their lungs, like anyone can really (or actually wants to) hear what they're saying.
Get over it, and move on. Excessive gesturing is not solving a damn thing, beyond your looking like a first class ass.

I can vaguely remember being in Germany when I was 2 or 3 years old...we were on the autobahn in a VW Beetle...so we may have been going 80 down hill...A guy in a BMW flies up behind us and starts hitting the horn, flashing his lights, and waving his hands in the air. ****ed because we were going so slow...like we could go any faster in a Bug...He motions for Dad to pull over...so he does.
Here's the part I remember...We pull into the rest area, the guy jumps out of his car yelling in German and waving his hands, just being a complete ass.
Dad, steps out of the car, doesn't say a word, walks over and punches the guy in the face...he drops...Dad gets back in the car, we drive off and dude is left laying there on the side of the highway.

Hands down - people who use the passing lane as a travel lane.
KEEP RIGHT EXCEPT TO PASS!
And NO, it's not a matter of speed; if you are going slow or fast in the passing lane it doesn't matter - AS LONG AS YOU ARE PASSING!! Otherwise, keep your ignorant ass over in the travel lane.
I HATE people who cannot grasp simple concepts of the road.

Slowpokes irritate me also!! The road coming into town is 55 mph until you get right on the edge of town. I cannot believe how many people I get behind who are only going 40 - 45 on that road, then slow down to 20 when they get into town (its 35 through town).

Tailgating.... most definitely. It's dangerous to do. In a split second anything can happen. If you are too close to the car in front of you - accident. People just need to leave 5 minutes earlier or do whatever so they aren't endangering people while driving.

It is a law in most states, "Keep right except to pass", but they stopped enforceing that law sometime in the early 60's when the interstate came on the scene. :flag:
States are now passing laws that if you drive in the left lane, you can get a ticket for "obstructing traffic" even if you are speeding. As long as someone wants to go faster, get out of the way and let them go.
And I didn't vote in the poll. Either nothing bothers me, or everything bothers me, there is no middle ground. ;)

In order (but not necessarily on the list):
1) People who drive slow in the left lane of a two or more lane highway
2) People who go the same speed as the car(s) next to them on a two or more lane highway
3) People who refuse to take turns merging
4) People who fail to give a courtesy waive when you let them into traffic when you don't have to
5) People who refuse to turn right on red even when nobody is around for miles.
6) People who turn left or right ridiculously slow.
7) Tailgaters who tailgate you even when there are cars in front of you that you cannot pass.
8) Motorcycles that tailgate
9) Motorcycles that drive in between two other cars.
10) People from Maryland. They tend to be the main offenders in all of the above situation. I'm sorry, but it is simply the truth.

Can I add people who tailgate you when you're 15+ mph over the limit, trying to pass a tractor trailer, to that?
2) People who go the same speed as the car(s) next to them on a two or more lane highway

3) People who refuse to take turns merging

5) People who refuse to turn right on red even when nobody is around for miles.
In PA, half the lights are no turn on red. I have seen people get clipped at 3 am, when it looked like there was absolutely no one for miles, just for turning right on red. So I'll give PA drivers the benefit on that one.
6) People who turn left or right ridiculously slow.
Especially onto a side street when there's a shoulder they could have eased onto to make said turn.
7) Tailgaters who tailgate you even when there are cars in front of you that you cannot pass.
And honk, flash their high beams at you, and flip you off.
8) Motorcycles that tailgate
9) Motorcycles that drive in between two other cars.[/quote]

Also, tractor trailers who cut me off and have the "if you can't see my mirrors, I can't see you" sticker. I'm not proud of this, but I actually followed one to a Wawa and left a note...I can't divulge the contents of that note on this board.

People who won't let you merge...even if you are running out of road!
On the flip side of that it's people that run down to the very end of a long line and then want to cut in at the end to bypass the line all the rest of us have been sitting in at single lane exits from highways when backed up or when multi-lane roads are being reduced for maintenance or an accident.
I'm a pretty polite and respectful driver, I'm in the right lane unless passing. I follow the alternate line merge rule. I will even pause on a busy road (if we have a red light) and let someone pulling out of a driveway in the lane.
SWP, this is not directed at you, but damn it those frek'n *******s who feel they are so damn special that they are too good to wait their turn in line like the rest of us.
I'm not talking about a suprise here, I'm talking about when they have ample warning and are passing the line anyway. As a matter of fact I'll pull up to the bumper of the car in front of me and move as far as possible TOWARD the lane ending (thereby making it hard to get an angle to start inching in).

1) People who drive slow in the left lane of a two or more lane highway
I can't stand slowpokes anywhere!!
2) People who go the same speed as the car(s) next to them on a two or more lane highway
Never seen that happen, but I know a lot of people fly by in the left lane and if you get stuck behind a slowpoke who can't handle the speed of the freeway, you're stuck!! Talk about aggravating!
3) People who refuse to take turns merging
Or the ones who stop at the end of the on-ramp (happens a LOT around here) because they can't seem to comprehend that you're supposed to MOVE, not stop!
Another pet peeve of mine is the idiots who see you trying to merge onto the highway, have plenty of room to move over, and refuse to move.
4) People who fail to give a courtesy waive when you let them into traffic when you don't have to
I always wave to people if they let me in, and sometimes twice if I'm not sure they saw it the first time.
5) People who refuse to turn right on red even when nobody is around for miles.
Or just refuse to turn right on red period!
6) People who turn left or right ridiculously slow.
Slowpokes are just aggravating period!
7) Tailgaters who tailgate you even when there are cars in front of you that you cannot pass.
Also the ones who insist on honking and flashing their lights at you, like they're in a big hurry and think they can make you get out of the way. Of course if someone does that to me I just slow down more.
8) Motorcycles that tailgate
Or motorcycle riders who think they own the road
9) Motorcycles that drive in between two other cars.
Like I said
10) People from Maryland. They tend to be the main offenders in all of the above situation. I'm sorry, but it is simply the truth.

People who won't let you merge...even if you are running out of road!
Oh, yeah!
I forgot about that one.
Doesn't often happen to me. (Whatever their other faults, drivers in my town are usually very courteous in this regard.)
But I'm reminded of an incident in Houston last summer. I’d just come back from a trip to Chicago with my wife and daughter, and was on an on-ramp onto the 610 loop coming from the airport. I put on my blinkers and looked in my rear view mirrors. It appeared that I had plenty of room, so I started to ease into the travel lane.
All of a sudden, a car horn blares. I quickly glance in my mirrors and see a taxicab bearing down on me. He’s just about on top of me, so I cut sharply to the right. By this time, I’ve run out of merge lane (the merge lanes here are very short), and I hit the raised curb. Hard. Fortunately, I didn’t have a blow out, but I bent both passenger-side rims and put goose eggs on both of the tires. We drove home worrying if they’d make it (they did), but had to have them replaced after we got back home.
The thing is, this ******* could easily have let me in, either by slowing down (or even by simply travelling at the same speed as everyone else), or by moving left over into the next lane. But no, this ******* insisted on staying in the right lane and speeding up on me as I was trying to merge.
We were just returning from a very nice trip to Chicago, basking in the remembrance of it, and this really put a damper on the whole thing.
Funny how a split-second encounter with an inconsiderate person can ruin your whole day.

Okay, here is a little tip for motorists out there. There is a stick on the steering column. When you flip it up, some little lights on one side of your car blink. When you flip it down, lights on the other side of your car blink. When you want to turn or change lanes, you flip the little stick either up or down to make the lights blink toward the side that you are planning on moving to. Most sensible people do this before you turn, NOT AFTER YOU FREAKING MAKE THE TURN ORMERGE INTO ANOTHER LANE! It's supposed to ba a warning or an indicator of what you plan to do, not a message telling someone else what you have already done. We saw it. You know, when you tried to remove the paint form the front bumper of my car. We know what you did, try to let us in on it next time and we will actually slow a little to let you in.
Thanks for your time.

there are so many.......
people who come to a complete stop to turn right (or do it ridiculously slow), like they're turning the Queen Mary.
People who drive in your blind spot behind you.
People who pull out in front of you or pass you then slow down.
People who make turns from 2 or 3 lanes over.
People who don't STOP and YIELD to traffic when they are trying to turn on red. YOU GO AFTER the traffic that has the right of way.
People who can't decide where they're going. Act like they're going in one lane and decided at the last minute to pull in front of you to go where you're heading, thus cutting you off.
People who are crawling along until they get to an intersection and notice that there's a light, then speed up, leaving you stuck at the light, which you would have made too, if the idiots were going the speed limit.
People who don't clean the snow off their cars so they can SEE where they're going and who they're cutting off.
I'm sure I'll think of more....

People who weave in and out of traffic to get ahead.
I usually see them coming and drive near another car.
Tailgating? No big deal, I just take my foot off of the gas and start coasting slower and slower.

Those big buffalo that just love to step out onto the road at the last second and stare you down. Had to reverse the Bronco on a twisty road tonight because the big male though he just had to protect his herd. A buffalo running full speed at you is not cool. The whole time, in the back seat, my almost 2 year old daughter was screaming "Pet it! Out! Let me Pet it"! I told her that buffalo were nice, but they bite.

I have two big ones...those who drive slow in the Hammer lane (DUDE that's what the granny lane is for move your butt on over!) and when a 3 lane goes down to a two lane and EVERYONE knows it goes to a 2 lane but by gawd they are gonna RACE up beside you and TRY to force their way in ahead of you. I may be in a MINI but I have a Semi heart! DON'T. EVEN. TRY. IT!
[rant on/]
OOOOoooo and when there is construction and they close a lane down...DUDE we are not all in the left/right lane for no reason and if I had my way you would NEVER get let in, nooooo you are NOT more important than everyone else who is waiting their turn.

Exactly! They have tor race ahead and beat every car to the merger.
I have a small car also and do not play that.

LOL A few years ago I would have been like "WHAT!??!"
But living in Pittsburgh, with all of the windy roads, it happens more than I'd ever have believed.

People who don't understand the concept of a roundabout.
It's really not that hard! If you can't figure it out, take the other roads instead of nearly killing me.
Oh, and the speed limit is a cap, not a target. If it's dark and rainy, I'm not aiming to hit 55 on this pothole ridden road.

I'm irritated by illegal aliens packed 10 deep in a smoke-belching '78 Caprice Classic weaving across lanes of traffic, with the driver having no insurance and a license obtained with fake paperwork.

One of my biggest grips is people who come to a complete stop to make a right turn onto a side street when there are no stop lights/signs or pedestrians in the intersection.

Being a passenger in a car where the driver takes his sweet time making left turns.
