We'll be Green-White-Checkered. Now we'll have probably 2-3 extra laps of caution, have lead lap, non lead lap, then the free pass, then GWC.

those low on fuel are hosed....

Ryan interviewed "is sore, but okay"
Ryan is TRASHING nascar
says "I don't think NASCAR thinks much of us anymore. it was not a good race for the fans"
Ryan is right
and it's time someone said it, even if he eats a fine for the comments.
I see Ryan as a WINNER here-- he came right out and hammered this stupidity.
And he did it spot on.

The 12 is dry and this holds off the restart again. Who's next to run out of fuel? We could be running a Lap 194 restart and almost all leaders will be pitting. At this pace the 17 and 26 will have to pit.

chalk that up to a good plan-- it worked out really well, much to my surprise.
but thats another problem with nascar. the way the non-racing is set up way too many drivers dont even try to win. here we had the most awarded driver over the last 6 years just driving around in 188 circles with no desire whatsoever to do anything except finish. bring some excitement back. have the driver with the most wins win the championship. if its a tie at the end of the year then give it to the driver with the best average finish. the racing is dull, the points championship is dull. force drivers to race to win.

Tallladega also announced some major changes before April 25's Aaron's 499.
They are taking seats out of the grandstands to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Gadsden (T4) to Section C of O V Hill South (tri-oval) will be ready in time for the spring race. The current 17" seats and 36" wide aisles will be replaced with 21" seats with armrests and cupholders with 48" wide aisles. New premium seats and new ADA-compliant seats are being added, along with a price reduction of $25 (from $120 to $95) for the top seats at the track. The remainder of the frontstretch will be reconfigured with the new 21" seats and 48" aisles for Hallow-Dega next year.
John McCain will be the grand marshal for the O'Reilly Auto Parts 500 in two weeks.
The final three races all start at 3 PM EST.

I have long said that it should be similar to the formula 1 system
10 points for a win
7 for second
5 for 3rd
3 for 4th
and 1 pt for 5th
as for the rest of the crowd, try harder.
this way it's race-performance oriented.
you have to top 5 to have any chance at all at a championship
and more than likely you have to have at least 3 or 4 wins

November 1st, 2009, 8:04 pm
nascar has gotten dumber and dumber lately.
the HANS device was their last good move
the "car of tomorrow" is crap
and the chase is crap
they should be racing with modern cars, and either using the old points system or use a formula 1 style point system.
it's become almost a joke compared to the days of Pearson, yarborough, junior johnson, and R Petty. It's powder puff limp wristed 'chase racing'

(Newman) also said racing was when petty, allison, and pearson were racing
A few years ago on This Week in NASCAR, Cale Yarborough said today's Chase requires a drivers be at his best during an entire season, and you can't just run away with the title the way they did in the past. If you remember Jenson Button in F1 ran away with the title by winning all his races at the start of the season and didn't win again after the early part of the season. Jimmie Johnson won enough in the first half of the regular season (Martinsville, Dover), won in the second half of the regular season (Indy), and has charged in the playoffs (Dover, Fontana, Charlotte), just what Cale exhorted about a Champion needs to be with the Chase. You can't just stay lazy. Two wins in the first half, one win in the second half and denied twice at MIS when he went for the win, and then Mr. Clutch in the playoffs. Rarely did was he off his A game.
And wasn't David Pearson called the Silver Fox for his slyness?
Jayski just put up a list of what would happen without the Chase, and Jimmie would be up over Smoke by seven.
If Jimmie wins four in a row, rest assured he did it with no lazy racing, no points racing, just smart racing that equals wins and points.
Since his crash at the end of the 2006 UAW-Ford 500 at Talladega, here's what Johnson has done in the past 33 races in the Sprint Cup Playoffs (source: ESPN/Jayski):
* Worst finish - 15th (2008 Homestead, in "safe" mode to clinch)
* 20 Podium Finishes (11 Wins)
* 2 4th-5th
* 7 6th-10th
* 4 11th-15th
Is this the mark of a driver who is very aggressive in crunch time? Nearly a third of the races on the podium is enough to make you wonder.

"If you can't be good, be lucky." That certainly worked well for Jimmy today for sure. Wow. Just when it was looking like Jeff and Mark were going to close the gap... Bam!
I hope Jimmy sends Keselowski a nice thank you card for running over Kurt Busch to set up that green/white/checkers situation.
Jimmy = David Pearson... yeah.
Things would have to go seriously wrong for him in the next three races to not take the Championship.

This came from the stat boards:
Jimmie Johnson needs just a 10th-place finish the final three races to guarantee a clinch. The earliest he can clinch is at Phoenix but he must gain 15 points in the next two races to get the title at the O'Reilly Auto Parts 500.
The Dynasty is here.
Some other notes:
Daytona: The former Kennel Club dog track near the frontstretch grandstands is being demolished after the new Kennel Club dog track a half mile away on Williamson Blvd. A new motorcycle flat track (similar to FIM Speedway and AMA Pro Flat Track) is being built outside Turn One for WKA dirt and AMA Pro Flat Track racing, as Municipal Stadium has eliminated the dirt track as it is now FieldTurf. That track opens in December for WKA KartWeek for the traditional season-ending Daytona races.
Also new gate entrances and bus stops are being added in the former dog track. Next year also marks the 50th anniversary of NASCAR Hall of Fame inductee Robert Glen Johnson, Jr's Daytona 500 win; the Kennel Club sponsored his #27 Chevrolet.
Grand Marshal for the Dickies 500 will be ZZ Top.

The first "big one" came with 4 laps to go, even though it only collected 5 cars. (http://jayski.com/next/2009/33tss2009.htm)
#39-Newman checked up to keep from getting into #14-Stewart. #47-Ambrose got into the back of Newman causing him to spin out of line, he turned backwards, flipped upside down, end over end, and landed on the hood of #29-Harvick. #19-Salder was also collected. Newman flipped a couple more times and the car came to rest on its roof. Safety crews had to flip the car over and cut the roof off to get Newman out but he was able to walk to the ambulance under his own power. The red flag was out for 13 minutes during cleanup. After the red flag was lifted, several drivers including #5-Gordon, #24-Gordon and #42-Montoya ran out of gas, further delaying the restart of the race for the finish.
Then coming to the white flag #09-Keselowski appeared to get in the back of #2-Busch, spinning him into traffic and collecting a number of cars and causing NASCAR to throw the caution flag.

You're on a roll!

The F1 system showed the mockery it was when after seven races the points leader ran away and wasn't to be found anywhere after the second half of the season.
F1 Points (current system): 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1
Once the race starts, if less than three laps are completed, the race is cancelled. Once Lap 4 starts, the race is official and until 75% of the race is finished, only half points are awarded if the race ends early.
First seven races (Australia, Malaysia*, China, Bahrain, Montmelo, Monaco, Turkey):
Jenson Button: Wins Australia, Malaysia*, Bahrain, Montmelo, Monaco, Turkey, Third at China
Sebastian Vettel: Wins China, Second Bahrain, Third Turkey, Fourth Montmelo, 13th in Australia, 15th in Malaysia, 18th in Monaco
Rubens Barrichello: Second in Australia, Monaco, Turkey, Fourth in China, Fifth in Malaysia* and Montmelo, 19th in Turkey.
NOTE: F1 does not count finishing position if the driver does not finish 90% of the winner's distance.
Total after 7 races: Button 58 points, Vettel 29, Barrichello 35.
Second Seven Races (Britain, Germany, Hungary, Valencia, Belgium, Italy, Singapore):
Button: 2nd in Italy, 5th in Germany and Singapore, 6th in Britain, 7th in Hungary and Valencia, 18th in Belgium
Vettel: Wins in Britain, 2nd in Germany, Third in Belgium, 4th in Singapore, 8th in Italy, 17th in Hungary, 20th (and dead last) in Valencia.
Barrichello: Wins in Valencia and Italy, Third in Britain, Sixth in Germany and Singapore, Seventh in Belgium, 10th in Hungary
Second Seven Races Only:
Burton: 23 points, Vettel 31, Barrichello 34
Total After Singapore: Button 81, Vettel 60, Barrichello 69
Final Three Races:
Button: Eighth in Japan, Fifth in Brazil, Third in Abu Dhabi
Vettel: Wins Japan and Abu Dhabi, Fifth in Brazil
Barrichello: Fourth in Abu Dhabi, Seventh in Japan, Eighth in Brazil
Three Race Totals
Burton: 11 points, Vettel 24, Barrichello 8
Total: Button 92 points, Vettel 84 points, Barrichello 77 points
Now you see how "lazy" Jenson Button "sat" on his lead with an F1 points system. Look at Jimmie Johnson's attitude. Once he took the lead he hasn't been sitting on it. He's been padding it with wins, podiums, and finding daylight through holes.
NOTE: There are two races in Spain, and are categorised by city (Montmelo for Spain and Valencia for Europe).

I didn't watch much of this race once I found out that Tony was going to use the "wait-at-the-back-of-the-pack" strategy. As far as I can recall, every year that (even when he was driving the 20 car) he has ever done that, he's been involved in some sort of crash. Tony is a front runner, and the front is where he should have been the whole damned time.
May as well crown J.J. right now. It's over.

I loved it when Tony started talking to the fans personally on the radio. When fans have scanners to listen to their favourite drivers, Tony said "they need to sell No Doz". Ah, just imagine what trackside fans get to hear -- boring race in the line? Just break out a comedy routine on the radio and the fans will want to watch the race and listen to their drivers and spotters create comedy. This is from the same bloke who said "Here, kitty, kitty, kitty . . . come and get some".
Shows even if the race is boring the drivers and spotters can make you listen to some comedy on the radio.

I think she means that Johnson couldn't hold Pearson's jock strap. I agree with that sentiment.
Without the chase format, Johnson wouldn't be trying to win his 4th Cup in a row. To me, there will always be an asterisk next to any championship won after 2004.

Someone here was keeping track of what the placement would be if the chase did not exist.... I haven't been paying that much attention to that detail, but it seems to me that Jimmy has out shined pretty much everybody else over the last 7 races.
Anybody? What would the standings be if there was no chase?

This is what the standings would be under the old system:
1) #48-Jimmie Johnson, 4752
2) #14-Tony Stewart, 4745, -7
3) #24-Jeff Gordon, 4673, -72
4) #5-Mark Martin, 4315, -430
5) #11-Denny Hamlin, 4271, -474
6) #42-Juan Montoya, 4260, -485
7) #2-Kurt Busch, 4248, -497
8) #16-Greg Biffle, 4157, -588
9) #39-Ryan Newman, 4118, -627
10) #9-Kasey Kahne, 4094, -651
Furthermore, in we had been running under the old system since 2004, JJ would have only 1 championship under his belt, that one coming in 2006.

That's a hard statement to get behind. I'll give you, Jimmie has owned the Chase format, but we can't say that he wouldn't have been just as good without it. This team treats the entire season like a restrictor plate race. Hang around, don't screw up too badly, and be there at the end. There's no telling how they would have gone at it without the stupid chase to deal with.
As far as the asterisk goes though, I'm with you. There's the Winston Cup Champions, and then there's the Nextel/Sprint Cup Champions. The two are not the same.

Jimmie would have won last year's title too, because of the unwritten rule of the last race of the season. Last year, if we had used the previous system, he would have held the points lead into the last race, although by a smaller margin. He took no gambles and hung around knowing that the title was his. Carl Edwards had to gamble and take risks. If Johnson's lead was under the old system, he would have been more aggressive in going for the win instead of operating on a "put this car home in one piece on the lead lap as possible" strategy.
If the points leader has a decent lead into the last race, that team will go into prevent defense. Their goal goes from winning the race to protecting the lead and trying not to make any bonehead moves that would cost them the championship. The second-place driver is reckless trying to make the moves to win the title.
When comparing points systems, the penultimate race (Mountain Dew Southern 500 in 2004; O'Reilly Auto Parts 500k, 2005-present) should be the last race to compare because the strategy changes for Homestead based on the size of the points lead headed there.

I don't buy it... the Chase is different, but that does not change the level of competition and they all race according to the same rules. The rules of NASCAR have changed many times over since its inception. For instance, should they asterisk all super speedway wins since the institution of restrictor plates? How about car heights? ... or air dams? Maybe you guys forget the days of Jr. Johnson, David Pearson, and Richard Petty, etc... there were only a handful of cars capable of winning consistently. Now there are dozens. Much of that has to do with the evolution of NASCAR rules.
I don't like the Chase either, but it in no way diminishes the value of the Championship.

It doesn't diminish the value, it just makes it a different Championship. In my opinion, anyway. The three Cale won are just different than the three Jimmie has won so far, and even the fourth he's about to. I don't doubt that Jimmie could have won a title under the old rules, I just wish we'd have had the chance to see him try.

Michigan is a great example of the gambles you can take with the Chase format. We're in the regular season, and the drivers who are leading and assured of a playoff position can go out and run reckless, since the only thing on the line are race wins and ten extra bonus points. At Michigan in August, without the Chase format, Jimmie would have almost certainly have simply taken the fuel earlier and not lost 20+ positions in the race as he did. He gambled because it was a no-lose situation. Win, and get ten for the playoff. Lose this gamble, and no harm, no foul, since you've already clinched.
From Indy to Richmond, the playbook changes. Teams that are comfortably clinched will take more risks going for wins, since the penalty for losing the gamble is far less than if it was in the old format.

Fast and furious: NASCAR broadcasters let it all out
(http://www.roanoke.com/sports/racing/wb/223760)By Dustin Long | The Roanoke Times
Sunday, October 25, 2009
Kasey Kahne recently questioned NASCAR for throwing a caution for debris, saying it was done to improve the show and bunch the cars up, not for safety. What would you think if NASCAR just started saying it would throw cautions to keep the field close?
SPENCER: NASCAR has done that their whole life. They've thrown a caution for no reason sometimes. There was debris on the track that time, so they did cover themselves.
McREYNOLDS: You know the debris cautions drive me freaking crazy. But it's a catch-22. The thing that drives me crazy and Darrell [Waltrip] has said it on our broadcast, we used to race and you maybe have to go down the back straightaway and dodge something because it was sitting in the middle of the race track. These cars are very fast, and you know what, they can't sit there and debate. Is it something that could cause a problem or not? While they're debating, somebody runs over it and cuts a tire and hits the freaking wall. I do applaud them erring on the side of safety.
PETTY: I agree with Larry on that. The problem is when you see this car go down in the corner lap after lap after lap and that splitter drags and drags and drags and drags, then what's coming off that thing. Used to, we'd look for huge pieces of metal to cut a tire. Well, carbon fiber and some of the stuff they use now, it only takes a sliver about as big as your fingernail. You can't believe ... how sharp some of this stuff and how dangerous some of this stuff really is.
McREYNOLDS: The problem with the guy [Kahne] you took the quote from was a very frustrated driver that has had a horrendous Chase, and he was just involved in two wrecks in five laps.
It's been more than eight years since Dale Earnhardt's death, yet he remains, at least in some of the lists, in the top 10 in sales in this sport. Is that more a commentary on today's drivers or Earnhardt's power?
PETTY: Earnhardt left a void that hasn't been filled. Richard Petty left a void that hasn't been filled. Darrell Waltrip. Cale Yarborough. Those drivers left voids that haven't been filled. The problem we have today is if ... I go take the top 12 drivers in points and line them all up and ask them a question, they're all going to give me the same sound bite, except for Juan Montoya.
SPENCER: Watch all these young drivers coming up. These kids are so concerned about being a Sprint Cup driver that they've lost focus on what they're supposed to do. You know what they're supposed to do? They're supposed to freaking race and win. Old man Earnhardt ... he tried to win the race.
PETTY: I just laugh at this. How many times do you think on a Sunday afternoon or Monday morning that David Pearson or Richard Petty or Cale Yarborough, Bobby Allison ... got up and [said], "I better call that guy and apologize for hitting him [on the track] yesterday. I feel really bad."
SPENCER: It makes me sick.
PETTY: How many times do you think that happens? My God! They got up Monday morning and looked in the mirror, laughed and went to work. That's the way it was. Because you know what? They had the trophy sitting in the living room and they had the check going in the bank.
McREYNOLDS: Some of the biggest disappointments I've had this year was at Martinsville when [Jimmie] Johnson knocked [Denny Hamlin] out of the way [to win the spring race] and Denny basically, he apologized in his interview. What is he doing?
PETTY: You never would have heard that.
McREYNOLDS: It's like, wait a minute you got knocked out of the way.
Where is this series now? Where is it headed?
SPENCER: This series is in trouble. This series is in serious trouble. All you've got to do is look at the grandstands. And when you see less and less people involved in this sport. It's not the drivers. It's not the car builders. It's simply competition is not where it needs to be.
People say it's also the economy that's keeping people out of the stands.
SPENCER: I don't agree with that. I think the people will come to events if it's worth coming to. One of the best races I've ever seen in my lifetime was right here in the (2009) All-Star race. I will put that race up against any race in the history of the sport. Six guys had a shot at winning that race.
I listened to Kurt Busch last week at California. The poor [guy] was scared to death. They didn't want to make no adjustments. That's one thing that Earnhardt, Pearson and Petty and Allison, they never had any fear. You know why? They knew how far they could go with their car. These guys don't know how far they can go.
This [Car of Tomorrow] is the best thing that ever happened to our sport? [No way]. It's the safest thing that has ever happened to our sport. Absolutely the worst car you will ever see in your life. No driver will tell you that because they're scared to ... death.
PETTY: What was your question again?
[The question is repeated about where the sport is headed]
PETTY: To me that is the big problem. The sport is not headed anywhere. That's why everybody is questioning things. We felt like the sport was doing this [sloping up], so nobody questioned anything while we felt like it was crowning. Now that we've plateaued, now which direction do we go in?
As Jimmy said, part of the blame goes to the cars. Part of the blame goes to the complacency and the vanilla-ness of the drivers. Part of the blame has to go to the economy. But at the same time, it circles back, and you can say there's not as many butts in the stands and there are just not as many eyes on the TV on Sunday afternoons.
Who in the sport has the most to lose for next year if they're not prepared for the upcoming season?
PETTY: We all have a lot to lose. The whole sport.
McREYNOLDS: I was trying to figure out how to say that but you're right.
PETTY: If we are sitting still, if we don't move again, then we've lost, so we all have a lot to lose, meaning from the sponsors to the TV to the drivers, to the owners and as important as anything, the fans. We have a lot to lose in what we have invested in the sport.
SPENCER: I think NASCAR really needs to look at the competition side of it, figure out how to get teams like Childress and Roush back involved and keep Ganassi involved. Get the Gibbs teams picked up.
PETTY: There's some stupid saying, and I wish I was more educated, where if you don't study history, you're doomed to repeat it. All we're doing right now is we're on the verge, and this is a Kyle Petty opinion probably nobody else's in this room, of repeating exactly what happened to CART and IRL [when the Indy Car series broke into two series and divided the fan base, just as NASCAR's popularity was taking off].
SPENCER: We're closer than you probably realize.

Another note . . . the #12 ******** Dodge with Brad Keselowski will now be a white car with the red trip identifying it with its sponsor, ********, firmly planted. The cover-ups will be in black (instead of it being in white). The 2010 design is now being used because its 2010 driver is now driving it. This is only for the #12 Sprint Cup car, not the #12 Nationwide Series car that is sponsored by Verizon and Vodafone.

The biggie of the four into the Turn 2 concrete was Jeff Burton, the first double winner at Bruton's Speed Palace.
Also read that Francis Ferko, who sued NASCAR into removing a Grand Slam race to have this race (in association with Johnnie Cochran's law firm), and then moved to Chicago, is attending the race with his grandson.

David Reutimann will pick up a five-race sponsorship deal with one of NASCAR's longest-running sponsors, GSK Consumer Health Care. GSK will continue its association with Earnhardt Ganassi Racing as one of the brands that will "co-brand" EGR's Target sponsorship.
GSK is one of NASCAR's oldest sponsors, having been a NASCAR sponsor since 1977 with Goody's Headache Powder (1977-2005). GSK has increased its motorsports presence over the years with Goody's, Nicorette, and now Tums.

I thought I would never get burned out on NASCAR.
The big thing is that JJ is going to win another championship--in a system I loathe
and he has a crew chief that is a cheater.
and then you have all the idiotic rule changes.
Just typing this out makes me madder.
I really dunno if I wanna watch this race, or any more of them.
Not until something changes

Reutimann and Hornish were racing for tenth, and Hornish tapped Johnson. That's what happened. Jarrett doesn't know if Reutimann tapped Hornish or not.
Now Johnson cannot be caught today but this is huge. If he can't finish he'll be worse than the Start and Parks.
Knaus cannot believe it and he's already at work. This is the first time since Talladega 2006 where Johnson has had such a bad finish in the playoffs. And once again (considering how this race was started by a fan (along with the Cochran Firm) suing NASCAR to remove Darlington's Southern 500 off the calendar) the Curse of the Southern 500 has struck. Only one Southern 500 champion (Johnson, 2004, last before lawsuit) has won the Dickies 500.

Absolutely rude. I remember fans did the same thing in the 1990's when Dale Earnhardt Snr had an engine fail, mechanical failure, or crash. They cheered because they feel the dynasty may not be there.
For the #48, they are in "24 Heures du Mans" mode now. They will probably pit like those pit stops and work on the car.

yeah
homestead always is good.
what kills racing is the stupid restrictor plates
all they have to do is lower the gears.
that kills the top end speed, but aids acceleration off the corner
and forces the drivers to not induce wheel spin
and also does not kill the power, for passing.
the way to go is lower gears.

That's two times this season fans have won loot from race results. In Joliet, a fan cashed a million-dollar day for having the same two drivers 1-2 in the two LifeLock-sponsored races at Michigan and Joliet (Martin-J. Gordon).
Johnson's chance to win the title are slim at Phoenix. Remember you need 196 to ensure a clinch at Phoenix, and 161 to win it by starting Homestead.
Driver on TV Alert: Tuesday, The Price Is Right (CBS Daytime) will feature Carl Edwards as host Drew Carey's guest. The show will be streamed online around 7 PM ET after it airs that morning. The show was taped in the days after the Pepsi 500 in Fontana.

NASCAR announced today the Prizegiving banquet December 4 will now air live on Speed. Reportedly NASCAR wasn't too happy with ESPN.
Las Vegas schedule:
Wednesday - Sprint Cup Champion's Roast. Includes a fan event that is free at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Gates open at 9 AM and Neon Garage opens at 11 AM. Champion's Roast requires special ticket at Blackjack Club, only 300 tickets ($250). Event will be shown on garage televisions.
Thursday:
3:30 PM - Victory Lap at MGM Grand Garden, Spring Mountain Road, and returns to MGM Grand Garden.
Friday:
6:00 PM - Prizegiving banquet at the Wynn Las Vegas. Teams and sponsors are encouraged to invite fans to have tickets. LIVE on Speed.
The drivers aren't doing anything else -- that's why I think Las Vegas doesn't deserve the banquet personally. New York has drivers waving either the green or checkered flag to Wall Street, being on every major show, and taking the champions of all NASCAR Series. But Las Vegas is a big bore.

He's a racer . . . need more of them . . .
What we need is racers who don't blame all their problems on the track on other drivers. A few weeks ago at Bristol he bashed into Gordon repeatedly after being past (damned near wrecking him) then whined that Gordon was in his way and was blocking him; before that he whined that JJ "sped" on pit road which was why he was beat back onto the track. He is a great driver, but he is over-agressive and a chronic whiner. I'm glad he wrecked; too bad Carl got taken out too (although, he often deserves it as well...)

Hamlin questions Gordon's motives on bump drafting (http://msn.foxsports.com/nascar/story/10339954/Hamlin-questions-Gordon%27s-motives-on-bump-drafting)
by Lee Spencer
Updated: November 8, 2009, 7:08 PM EST
FORT WORTH, Texas - So what provoked Denny Hamlin to tweet "Jeff G (Gordon) told NASCAR we shouldn't be bump drafting ... Cuz they never did in the past. Who's running this sport?"
Before driver introductions for Sunday's Dickies 500, Hamlin questioned Gordon's motives.
Although Hamlin has tremendous respect for the four-time champion, he wonders whether Gordon lobbied NASCAR for the safety of all the competitors or because he couldn't get the No. 24 to perform the bump drafting to his liking?
"It's just frustrating that a driver has enough power to change how the whole field has to run," Hamlin said. "I think it should be a little broader group. I think it was a knee-jerk reaction by NASCAR wanting to please Jeff.
"Here's the thing, Jeff made comments earlier to me that his car wouldn't push very well. Of course, he wanted to get rid of that rule because it took away some of the advantage that the other guys had. Jeff, at times, looks out for himself. But I know he has the best interest of the sport at hand."
Hamlin is in his fourth full season in the Sprint Cup Series. Although he's a long way from reaching Gordon's stature, Hamlin's visibility has grown by qualifying for the Chase each of those four years and accumulating seven wins in 148 starts.
And with Hamlin turning 29 this month, the senior driver at Joe Gibbs Racing would like to take more of an authoritative role in the sport. Hamlin also lobbied for NASCAR to make more decisions by committee — or at least hearing from a wide variety of voices before a suggestion becomes an edict.
Jeff Gordon was not available for comment prior to Sunday's race but on Friday, he admitted that he approached the sanctioning body to address the perils of bump drafting.
Gordon added, "The open-door policy has its benefits" and "the biggest thing" he's seen since coming to the sport "was having the large group of drivers coming together in one room.
"If you really want to get something done, that's how you get it done, behind closed doors with that group. I think it's great they're reaching out. I think the more they can do with that, the better.
"The drivers feel like they're a part of the sport, what's going on, decisions that are being made. Just giving our input I think can help them make better decisions. So I'm all for it."
Yet for whatever reason, Hamlin doesn't feel that he's part of that clique. However, that's not going to stop the driver from voicing his opinion.
"I know it's an open-door policy," Hamlin said. "But myself, I've never been invited to any kind of private meeting or whatever that I've heard has happened. I'd like to think that I'll be in this sport for the next 15 or 20 years so they might want my opinion. I plan on being around here for a long time.

Gordon was right in doing what he did.(If he felt that it was unsafe)
Hamlin has the right to "LOBBY" NASCAR if he wishes at any time.
He just comes off as a baby IMO.
The whole thing Hamlin said can be summed up in a few words.............
I'm tellin my Mommy on you Jeff Gordon.
The article says Hamlin has tremendous respect for Jeff.........I don't buy that, I think he is jealous of Jeff and wishes he had the following and respect Jeff has earned in NASCAR.

Denny knows how things get changed. Who started with "Debris" on the track? For the Love of Racing, the officials picked up - a HOT DOG. I'm not kidding.
Lap 162 -- Jeff Gordon fights to stay on the lead lap and has picked his lap times up.
Lap 165 -- YELLOW FLAG NO. 3: Jeff Gordon is reporting debris in Turn 1.
Lap 167 -- Jeff Burton gets the free pass. Crews are cleaning debris in Turn 1.
The ridiculous crap that went at Dega; slowing the cars, single file? You can't belief that happened . . .

With these helmets, face shields, and other things (and observers), we don't know if it's a hot dog or something legitimate from the tower, windows, or anywhere near the track. Furthermore, with today's carbon fibre splitters, we have the concerns (as we've seen in other series) where the sharp carbon fibre could cut tyres severely. With speeds over 300 km/h at many tracks, the big concern is running over minute debris could send a car into the wall.

Right... except for one thing... only the Toyotas are going 300 km/hr... the rest of the field is going 190 mph.

Right... except for one thing... only the Toyotas are going 300 km/hr... the rest of the field is going 190 mph.
We're talking about 3.6 MPH slower speeds. But from a science-insurance-NASCAR standpoint, 300 km/h (186.4 MPH) is the "limit" speed, not 190 MPH. And remember we're at Phoenix, where the Truck races used to be 300 kilometres and the Cup race is 500 kilometres. NASCAR should seriously when considering Talladega changes try a harder tire and different fuel systems (fuel injection?) to ensure cars don't go 300.
And speaking of kilometers, USAR is talking about running a ProCup race at one of racing's most famous kilometers, North Wilkesboro Speedway, which was the only kilometer track in NASCAR when it was on the schedule.

It's not just Denny, along with fans of racing.

The Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) announced effective with the February 26-28 round at Palm Beach International Raceway (2-mile road course) and for the rest of the 2010 ARCA Racing Series presented by Re/Max, except for the Food World 250 April 23 at Talladega, that 105" wheelbase (current NASCAR Nationwide Series) cars will be permitted. Currently 110" retired Sprint Cup cars (former chassis, not the COT) are permited. The Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 at Daytona February 7 is the other race where 105" wheelbase cars will not be permitted.
As NASCAR moves to the COT platform in the Nationwide Series, it leaves ARCA, NASCAR regional, and USAR ProCup as platforms where retired NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide cars can be used.

Also in short-track racing, looks like we have an "Awesome" time in Gresham Motorsports Park in Jefferson County, GA. 13-year old William Clyde (Chase) Elliott II, who will turn 14 over the winter, dominated first practice for the major World Crown 300.

That article does not refer to what Hamlin was speaking of about bump drafting in the turns.
Unless I missed it.
At any rate I don't really care about what Spencer and Petty have to say and don't see how they ever got anyone to sponsor them at all.

Bump drafting in the turns has become extreme in the time between the 72 restrictor-plate points races Mr. Gordon has driven from his first (1993 Daytona 500) to his 72nd (2009 AMP Energy 500). He probably remembers how it was driven when he drove his first 500 to the AMP Energy 500.
