Are they actually letting you and FW make changes to the message board or is this being done by technical support people?
If they are...
God help us.
Two Marines and a device more technical than a club or knife?
Your respective DI's must be laughing their heads off.
Next thing you know, you will be ordering drinks in Officer Country on the nearest flat top.

No Goose,
It is "after I hit the enemy in the head with them".
To throw them "at" the enemies head implies you might miss.
You are a Marine.

In some thread, I know not which one anymore, I asked why my links don't show up when I try to edit my own post. Example, I see pictures instead of the link.
Also I have no size feature when I am editing either. Yes, I know how to do that manually but it was there yesterday! :((
Is that the way it's going to be or is it under maintainence?

Just looked at your profile, you have WYSIWYG selected, so I'm not sure. You don't see "Sizes" right next to the font?
And I have no idea what you're talking about with pictures instead of links.

Remember that other forum I told you about? That is what happens there. When you post an image with the tags, after you hit submit OR preview, it only shows the photo, not the tagged link any longer. That sounds like what he's talking about.
I just tested it out; I'm not getting an image instead of tags.

Picture........as in I have entered a photobucket link and after hitting submit it's a photo, in the past if I needed to edit something it shows up as a link in the edit not a picture like now!
OK, size is there, next question is, if I don't hit submit and I do preview postview instead to look at it before posting it....maybe that's why I am missing features if I have to edit it after submitting it that way. That's all I can think of.
Gonna try it with this post!

That's it Goose, if you do preview post and submit from there and need to edit it after that, you lose features.
At least I know why now!
DaGooseMon
August 7th, 2008, 9:56 pm
Oh, so she uses the IMG tags, that's why. Yes, once a pic is posted, even when you edit that post, the pic will remain. See, I always use the Pic button instead of typing out the tags, so as soon as I it Ok after entering the URL for the pic, the pic shows up right away.
That's that. If you want to see the img tags and url, hit the A/A button in the upper right of the editor to change to simple mode.

So, now... let's see about this...
I don't lose any options when previewing. Are you sure you're scrolling down far enough to see the editor and not the actual post?
ETA... OOOOOHHHHH! Yeah, click Go Advanced and you'll see all of the features.

Ok, go to your User CP, click on Edit Signature on the left side of the screen.
Enter the text you want in the sig, then for the pic, you have to use the sig pic tags as shown below. If you want to add a URL link to the pic, highlight it then click the Globe and Chain button as shown:
http://politicalnightmare.com/images/hannity/Sigpic.jpg
Then, you need to upload the pic you want to use. Scroll a little farther down, click Browse and steer to where you have the pictures stored, as shown:
http://politicalnightmare.com/images/hannity/sigpic1.jpg
You can preview it, or save as desired.

Is there a feature that allows you to "look" in a thread you have posted in to see if anyone has quoted your post without reading the entire thread? Kind of a see if anyone responded to my post button.

On some message boards when someone replies to a particular post in a thread their response is listed under that post instead of at the end/start of the thread ~ I was wondering if we had or could get this option &/or have a button that directs you to a list of all replies to that post ~ One small reason I type in color is it's easier to find when people quote me & reply but even doing that I miss a lot of them ~ Thanks ~

According to the FAQs
Creating a new poll
When you post a new thread, you may have the option to also create a poll.
This function allows you to ask a question and specify a number of possible responses. Other members will then be able to vote for the response they wish, and the results of the voting will be displayed in the thread.
An example poll might be:
What is your favorite color?
Red
Blue
Yellow
Green
Sky-blue pink with yellow spots
To create a poll when you post a new thread, simply click the 'Yes! post a poll' checkbox at the bottom of the page, and set the number of possible responses you want to include.
When you click the submit button, you will be taken to the poll creation page, where you can specify the question and the list of responses you want to include.
You may also want to specify a time limit for the poll, so that (for example) it only stays open for voting for a week.

Have you tried decreasing your resolution settings?
Right click on your desktop, select Properties. Click on tab to the far right called Settings. Move the Resolution indicator to the left some. This will decrease you resolution, and make things appear larger.

I have a suggestion to minimize the frequency of the same question being asked.
Compile all previous and incoming Q&A regarding functionality into a FAQ sticky thread.
My suggestion:
Recognizing people WILL continue to miss this thread and ask their question below; and recognizing this thread is becoming too long for people to want to read the entire thread seeking an answer to their question--Make this thread a locked Answer Thread. The answers to all questions on Functionality are dealt with here. For example, down below, as per what often happens anyway, a Poster asks:
Print size is too small--how can I make it larger?
The Moderator posts the answer up in the Sticky of a locked Hannity Help Desk Answer Thread, then answers the qustion by stating one or the other of these responses:
1. See Hannity Help Desk Sticky, the top thread in this forum; or,
2. See FAQ (very top of the page)
Then lock the question thread.
All anyone will ever see when they post a question is the direction to look in the Help Desk Sticky or in FAQ. Posted enough times, people may get the idea to look first and ask second. Again, any time a new question comes up, it is addressed by the Moderator adding the answer to the locked Sticky Thread, while the response to the question asked down below remains, "See Help Desk Sticky."

ok I see what you're talking about.
I'll get admin to remove one of them. That happened with the upgrade.
The new one you see to the right is the standard issue...the one on the top left is a custom job
I'm a dumdum and started a new thread regarding the dual login field issue.
Lee pointed me to this sticky that I unfortunately missed before posting.
Any progress on that?

Some banned user/retread sent me a friend request, I tried to check the 'reject' button, but the notification won't go away. Am I supposed to use that checkmark in the right hand corner? If so, I started to do it that way, and it was going to get rid of all of my friends(not that there's that many  _

In the upper left-hand corner of each friend's square is a tiny box. Try checking that specific "friend" and then using the reject button. (I'm trying to picture this in my mind to remember if this is "reject", "edit", or "save changes", but I believe the key is that check mark in the individual's square. Hope this helps.

I looked at that, but when I check the box, I get a message saying 'something about my selected friends will be rejected, and all of my friends have a check mark, so I think I'd be deleting all of my friends ;(

OK, my profile has my private E-mail account. Truthfully I don't use it very much so frequently it goes un-monitored. (ya, ya - get over it.)
Orignially I set:
User CP
.....Edit Options
..........Default Thread Subscriptions Mode = Instant E-mail Notification
Some time ago (measured in weeks) I set:
User CP
.....Edit Options
..........Default Thread Subscriptions Mode = No E-mail Notification
Problem - I'm still getting Instant Notifications
Any ideas?
*************************************
Background, if you're interested.
Before I didn't care, I checked the account about once a week and cleaned out stuff I didn't need. OK, OK - maybe once a month. (Mostly I use my work account.)
Now however my daughter is a senior in high school with college applications, scholarships, and she's taking AP Calculus BC via Virtual Classroom. So I've set up a "professional" account for her with Cox (she has another one for chit-chat with her girl friends). My daughters SO RESPONSIBLE () so I checked her account and it can be automatically forward to another account (which is my work account that I'm on constantly) and she asked me to be her backup for important stuff (actually she is pretty responsible).
I don't mind getting her stuff for school, but I need to have "Instant Notification" disabled so I don't get an E-mail for each posting here.
Any solutions?

The offending code:
Top left username input:
<input type="text" class="forms" style="font-size: 11px" name="vb_login_username" id="navbar_username" size="15" accesskey="u" tabindex="101" value="User Name" onfocus="if (this.value == 'User Name') this.value = '';" />
Right side username input:
<input type="text" class="bginput" style="font-size: 11px" name="vb_login_username" id="navbar_username" size="10" accesskey="u" tabindex="101" value="User Name" onfocus="if (this.value == 'User Name') this.value = '';" />
Note the 'tabindex' argument in both code examples. Same goes for the password inputs, but they are tabindex 102.
Of course this is only an issue before logging in.

In addition to what spinach notes, usually when I type (I type very fast), the cursor lags far behind - this is a very recent phenomenon, starting yesterday when I upgraded to Firefox 3.0.1.
I'm wondering if anyone else is having similar text entry problems with the new Firefox.
I also downloaded (and am using for this session) the new Google browser, Chrome.

Most of the lag I get is when I am in the middle of posting to thread that has several participates. I think it has something to do with two posts to the same thread at the same time. Or when two people attempt to access the thread at the same instant. JMO.

16KB - 211X294
Question: Why did I have to take the first image down so small and I am still not under 32Kb??? The second photo has lots more in it, was able to leave it bigger and am way under 32Kb.
Why is that? And what exactly is "Kb"???
DaGooseMon
September 16th, 2008, 11:40 am
Depending on the file type, say BMP, JPG, or PNG, some files are larger than others. Generally speaking, BMP and PNG files are much larger in size, that's Kb, which stands for Kilobytes, than say a JPG. If you open a BMP or a PNG file in MS Paint, and click File, Save As, you can change the file type to JPG and it will make the file size much smaller.

JPG image files, quite often, contain a great deal of unnecessary information. If a file is saved with with a color depth of 16 million colors the image file will contain information for 16 million colors even though the image itself only is using 1,000 or so.
Color depth option can be set in any good photo editing program.
There are programs strictly for cleaning the file... stripping out unnecessary file information... this one is free...
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/jpgcleaner.html
I also often recommend use of Easy Thumbnails which automatically cleans the file when resizing (set size). It will also allow you to set compression (note below)It is also free..
http://www.download.com/Easy-Thumbnails/3640-2192_4-10059451.html
File size can also be reduced by increasing file compression (in most good photo programs).

Yes, this is all starting to make sense now! I have a really good program on my computer BUT have never used features past resizing photos before placing them in my photobucket account....that's where I can click right on the image and see the Bk and size. Gonna try messin' around with my program.

Just FYI. Yesterday (pretty certain is was yesterday), I experienced some lag in the system. When I looked down at the status bar, it indicated that the browser was attempting to contact Yahoo API servers. I don't remember which page it was, and there was no indication of what API was being used, and there was no opportunicy to use any analysis tools to find out, but it delayed the loading of the page by a considerable amount.
The Yahoo servers were apparently busy. Being a developer, I have seen this before when trying to contact web services and load externally served scripts and ads on local pages. If there is a widget causing a slow down, perhaps it can be moved somewhere else, although I have only seen the problem once.

Quick question...
When I try to edit my profile, I get:
ih8hippies, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:
Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.
This goes for everything in my "User CP". How do I go about changing anything in my profile if I don't have sufficient privileges?

The offending code:
Top left username input:
<input type="text" class="forms" style="font-size: 11px" name="vb_login_username" id="navbar_username" size="15" accesskey="u" tabindex="101" value="User Name" onfocus="if (this.value == 'User Name') this.value = '';" />
Right side username input:
<input type="text" class="bginput" style="font-size: 11px" name="vb_login_username" id="navbar_username" size="10" accesskey="u" tabindex="101" value="User Name" onfocus="if (this.value == 'User Name') this.value = '';" />
Note the 'tabindex' argument in both code examples. Same goes for the password inputs, but they are tabindex 102.
Of course this is only an issue before logging in.

Hi all,
I am new to this forum and I had a question about reading the various threads. When I open a thread, the first post that I see is the last one that was posted. In order to see the thread from the begining, I have to go to the end and read it backwards. I'm sure there is a setting somewhere that I need to change, but I can't seem to find it. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I would like for the thread to start with the first post and have the most recent post be the last one in the thread.
I also tried to edit my settings in the cp, but was given an error saying I didn't have permission to view that page.

I didn't see this asked in this thread, and I didn't see anything specific in the bb code options, but I'll ask just in case I overlooked something: is there a way to format a table, or to format more than one column within a post? Specifically, I was hoping there would be a way to wrap text around an image. Something other than this:
Conservatives have already in the three weeks after the election come up with three competing explanations — and remedies — for their congressional defeats and the victory of the relatively unknown Barack Obama.
It was a sort of fluke. Party faithful will shrug that almost everything conspired this year against the conservative brand: two wars; the sinking economy; eight years of presidential incumbency; a biased, unethical media; Bush’s low ratings; the absence of an incumbent president or VP candidate on the ticket; more exposed Republican congressional seats than Democratic http://byfiles.storage.live.com/y1pHD2hjRS4NKPNiX2b9_cfja_Zyta3dmTsves3jlYjY2SElWR 0qiYoUEszwYql8V_-ones; a charismatic path-breaking opposition candidate, etc. The stars were wrong, rather than the ideas.
So, the theory goes, just make McCain appear a little younger, Obama sound a little bit more like John Kerry, and take away the mid-September financial meltdown, and — presto! — a Republican would now be in the White House.
Remedy? Not much other than fielding younger, more charismatic candidates. The failure was people, not ideas, and best symbolized by the damage done by the creepy Jack Abramoff, Larry Craig, Duke Cunningham, Mark Foley, or Ted Stevens whose ethical lapses became the Republican bumper-sticker.
If it were possible to start with one column of text, and then get text on one segment of the screen with the picture on the other segment of the screen, and then flow again back to one column of text, I would like to know how.

I didn't see this asked in this thread, and I didn't see anything specific in the bb code options, but I'll ask just in case I overlooked something: is there a way to format a table, or to format more than one column within a post? Specifically, I was hoping there would be a way to wrap text around an image. Something other than this:

Not without adding a <table> feature to VBulletin. True pagination would be a nice feature to add... :)
