View Full Version : New Social Group: The Hannity Apoliticals

Here's a place for all apolitical folks to gather...
a place for all us folks burned out about politics
and/or who otherwise don't give a flying **** at the moment.
Since I don't possess omnipotent powers
that would allow me to establish an official Hannity social group
for us dissaffected folks
(to match the ones for conservatives, liberals, libertarians, and independents),
I'm starting a thread to unofficially accomplish the same thing.
So, with that... Here's To Us! The Hannity Apoliticals!
We've even got a theme song:

BTW, visitors are welcome.

I am in Bill. Planting the seeds of revolution. I did not want to be here. I did not choose to be here. But here I am thanks to the current state of politics. I try to hang in,I try to fight the good fight but in the end where do I end up? Back here in this meaningless non-productive place called Trivial Pursuits. ;)

I just know the status quo is not working for me anymore. I am a conservative on most issues. I simply have no political home.

I'm a burnt out libertarian conservative who, when I first came into the forums, was a fire-eating Ron Paul supporter who spent all his time in WP.
Now, I just want to hang with my buddies in TP and leave the political stuff alone.
Funny how things can change.

So Bill, is this a group for people who are sick and tired of Politics? I can understand that. I post in the Sports forum more than anywhere else these days. Atleast for the last year or so. I need a break every now and then anyway.
I noticed people who are just sick and tired of the two parties posting as well? That would be me, though I am not willing to retreat from the fight. Take a vacation? Sure. But if I give up, then I have no right to complain. I think it's great that you created this though my friend.
Though I have not suggested it yet, I think Goodlife should create a 'Revolutionary' Social group. Meaning, anyone who is sick of both of these sheople herded, special interest enabled, android divisive parties. Or just the carpetbaggers in D.C in general.
It could work because all sides could join it, because folks on both sides desire a change in the two headed snake system. That would make 5 social groups, and I really don't see what more politically could be thought up after them? Anyway, looks real good my friend. ;) ~BH

Thanks, BH.
And let me just add that, just because I feel apolitical, it doesn't mean that I'm not paying attention to things. And it doesn't mean that I won't go to the polls in November.
As things now stand, I'll be voting for McCain. I won't be doing it enthusiastically, nor will I be ragging on people about the election.
Backing off from actively participating in a presidential campaign is very much out of character for me. This will be the first presidential election since I started voting in 1972 where I'll essentially be sitting out the action.
And I've gotten to the point where it doesn't particularly bother me if Obama wins the election, even though I think he's a poor choice in so many ways.
Funny thing... I think my regular participation in the Hannity forums has helped bring me to this point of apolitical-ness.
I now find that whenever I look in on the WP forum, I practically get cross-eyed looking at the inflammatory and/or inane thread titles.

I agree, and many of the responces in those threads are just as inane and inflammatory. They come across as less discusion and debate, and more accusation and name calling. I have found a few good threads worth responding to, but they often get derailed by narrow thinking and finger pointing (those few discussions that don't start out there.)

Goodlife,Is it any funnier than those guests who come to the Hannity forums and rarely if ever go to WP to debate/discuss politics? I see people who have next to never participated in the political aspect of Sean Hannity's board. Most of us who have reached this point did quite often engage ourselves in the political aspect and still desire to but politics of late is seriously lacking so much.

Never. Change happens when people do step out of the box. When they question their own paths and not just the paths of others. Sometimes it takes disallusionment or disgust to make that happen. I will never apologize for being a thinker or even a political antagonist to both myself and to others and not a political foot soldier for any political party.
Personally I think this entire topic would be a fascinating and worthwhile one for Sean's show.
We are not alone. We crave honest leadership and true political debate and dialogue. I simply refuse to become anymore what I myself have criticized in others.

Im getting apolitical for the fact that the two parties are not representative of the people, and havent for a long time. Im sick and tired of both sides and their corruption. Everyday I read and hear about some rep or dem senate or house member compromised by their greed, brought up on indictment and still feel the need to "Represent" me. No thanks.
Ill still vote so I can retain the right to complain. Our two choices are weak, the other third party choices weaker still.
I have two excellent choices come this Nov. for my local rep in congress. It will be hard to choose between the two.

I want change. Not the superficial catchphrase change the politicians go on and on about but true change in how the leadership of this country relates to us,the people, the voters. Change in how we relate to each other. I want to truly debate those who disagree with me honestly. I do not want to consider their very political being as a reason to become that which I despise.

I think I understand what you're getting at, but you're wrong. We're not apolitical in the sense that we don't care. We're the disillusioned, the ignored, the unwilling to buy the BS the parties are offering us.

Thanks Doc for that explanation. It is quite accurate for me. I am truly annoyed with the candidates and the already elected, some past and many present who treat the "people",the voter as uninformed idiots who can be sold any line of rhetoric without question. I have been a buyer in the past unfortunately but this is a new day for me and I am simply raising the political bar for these candidates and already elected. The requirements to make me a believer have just gotten much more difficult.
And add into the mix how embarrassed I am to see the greatest country in the world have candidates, pundits and people engage in some of the juvenile and often pointless political dialogue we have witnessed help convince me that we need to truly take a closer look at what we are doing as we seek leadership and stability for this country.

Anyway, looks real good my friend. ;) ~BH
I was rereading your post, BH, and it occurred to me that we in this group are indeed taking a revolutionary stand, as Dreamy stated in an earlier post:
I am in Bill. Planting the seeds of revolution. I did not want to be here. I did not choose to be here. But here I am thanks to the current state of politics. I try to hang in,I try to fight the good fight but in the end where do I end up? Back here in this meaningless non-productive place called Trivial Pursuits. ;)
I think you should consider joining our ranks, BH, if only temporarily.
As I mentioned in another post, you can have your name taken off the list at any time.
Let me add that I consider my own apolitical position to be temporary, and that I will, at some point in the not too distant future, come back out swinging.

I will say the last state races here in Looseyana have pushed me over the edge into apolitical status. Back in 2004 or so, the state legislators passed termlimits. A good thing. Or so I thought.
The problem is this last race in 2007, All Term limited House critters ran for their term limited Senate critters seats and vice versa. Most won their elections and nothing really changed.
No wonder Looseyana will remain one of the worst good ole boy states. We DO have a reformist Governor, but he showed some signs of wishywashyness by deciding at the last minute to veto an illegal payraise for state legislators. It never should have gotten that far. If he was all about reform, he would have immediately vetoed it. Rant over. Sorry TP'ers for going serious.

I'm a burnt out libertarian conservative who, when I first came into the forums, was a fire-eating Ron Paul supporter who spent all his time in WP.
Now, I just want to hang with my buddies in TP and leave the political stuff alone.
Funny how things can change.
I can understand that Bill. Day in and day out, its the same "my party can kick your party's butt," or "my party isn't as crappy as your party" mantra. It does get sickening after a while. I have been fed up for years lol

I'm afraid I'm not enamored of the olive in my alcohol. Or the onion, either for that matter.
An exceptionally cold top shelf vodka, a peel of lemon, and a mere hint of vermouth and you have the perfect martini.
Perhaps "hint" is too strong. Open the vermouth, threaten the vodka with it, close the bottle.

Make sure the vodka is exceptional or the vermouth is needed to cover up it's defects. And put it in the deep freeze. Before it goes in a chilled shaker with ice. And then into a chilled martini glass.

I think, if you'll forgive my somewhat cynical late night nature, that most simply wish to give the impression of impartiality and thoughtfulness. Given that there are precious few choices on the ballot, it seems a tad unlikely that some new and pretty baby in a red hat will attract the adulation of our friends on the forum.

I'm afraid our old friend decided he needed a break from the forums, but found it necessary to do so in dramatic fashion by insulting several of the mods, something entirely out of character for an accomplished poker player. Sounds dreary. Whenever I hear of the Algonquin group, I picture bored geniuses sitting around a table wondering what next to do with themselves, trying to think of a way to outdo their clever selves.
I'm reminded of the suave and clever actor George Sauders, who committed suicide in the 60's (I don't know if he was a member of the group, but he woulda fit right in, in my opinion.) He left behind a note that said "I'm bored."

I'm afraid the Table was, to be polite, overrated. In a time of literary heavyweights (think Hemingway or Joyce or Faulkner) most of the Vicious Circle were self-congratulatory wags who squandered their talents, for those that had them, on wine, women, contrived witticisms and song. Dorothy Parker had some small success, as did George Kaufman, but it was little enough given the talent they possessed.
Saunders seems like a perfect fit, though from the outside looking in there are any number that might be said of who declined membership, Groucho Marx among them.
Me neither. And I think I'm on her bad side, or at least on her list of people with whom she has little patience with.

Dorothy Parker had some small success, as did George Kaufman, but it was little enough given the talent they possessed.
Saunders seems like a perfect fit, though from the outside looking in there are any number that might be said of who declined membership, Groucho Marx among them.
As I recall, Groucho had a great line regarding that.
"Endeavor to persevere..."
Always.

While waiting for your reply, and speaking of kings,
I believe I've told you I'm a direct decendent of Robert the Bruce, first king of Scotland.
lol...
From the Highlands to the Lowlands in under seven centuries. What's a nice Scottish lad like you doing in the bayou?
I've also since found out that I have a great uncle, dozens of times removed, who's one of the three ancient celtic kings upon whom scolars believe the Arthur legend is based.
I can't imagine that information came from Malory's Le Morte d'Arthur...
how did you find out?

Groucho had a great line for everything...
I thought it ironic that he declined...and Harpo sat in for a few hands.
Always.
I think we could write a business book on the philosophy of Josey Wales...

BTW, I suspect, from what I've seen in the geneological stuff, that we can all claim descendency from royalty. It's just a matter of tracing things out.
I'm also of the firm opinion, based on what I've seen, that all people of Western European descent are at least eighth cousins, if not closer.
Think about that the next time you're in the checkout line.

It's entirely by accident. By all reckoning, I shoulda been born and raised in Scots-Irish redneck country, but my dad moved to south Louisiana for the work. As a result, I've married two Cajun girls, one after the other, and I can dance and eat like nobody's business.

Geneological records, traced back to the ancient kings of the British Isles.
There are three specific kings of which scholars have determined one of whom the Arthur legend is based upon. One of those three is my great-something uncle was a minor Irish king.

Besides...
who would want to be descended from serfs?

If true, I'm going to need a few more Christmas cards this year.

I'm afraid my family records were all lost when the penitentiary caught fire.

Amazing, the blood that flows in our veins.
