Artists, fans and family gathered at the Bassline in Newtown, Johannesburg, today to pay their respects to slain reggae legend Lucky Dube.

The venue, adorned with Dube’s posters and flowers, is a popular spot for artists to perform and launch new albums.

Singer Sipho Mabuse said Dube, who was killed in a botched hijacking in Rosettenville on Thursday, was a hero in South Africa and the rest of the world.

Gallo music group’s Ivor Haarburger passed his condolences to the family.

Haarburger described Dube, who has recorded 22 albums, as a "reserved, amazing performer".

The Mahotela Queens Hilda Tloubatla said: "We have lost a lot."

SABC Group CEO Dali Mpofu said Dube was a great communicator, even in death.

Cosatu general secretary Zwelinzima Vavi said the working class and the poor were the main victims of crime in South Africa.

The death of Dube should be a wake-up call for South Africans to unite against crime.

"This atrocity highlights the grim reality of the daily carnage on our streets, the main victims of which are working people and the poor," he told mourners.

Vavi quoted from one of Dube’s popular songs, saying the words underlined that everone could be affected by crime.

The lyrics read in part: "Do you ever worry about leaving home and coming back in a coffin, with a bullet through your head?"

Letters of condolences from Presidents of Gambia and Senegal were read to the crowd that also included members of the bare-footed Shembe congregation of which Dube was a member.

I just spent the last 10 days uploading 1390 songs into my iTunes Library. Boy was that fun. Only took about 4.9 gigs.

I have to admit I'm way behind on the whole MP3 thing.

Is anybody here good at managing files on a MAC. Wondering...if I move all these files to my external hard-drive will iTunes be able to access them? What would I have to do to make that work?
