Actually we went to Navarre...Pensacola was crazy-packed because of the air-show...we stayed in Milton so Navarre was closer anyway (by taking 87S)...We had a great time..pretty much had the beach to ourselves..nice breeze..good waves...

this in turn must equal 2n + 1, an odd number. Note that since each of p_i is odd for i = 1, 2, 3, ..., t, each of a_i for i = 1, 2, 3, ..., t must be even to make 1 + p_i + (p_i)^2 + ... + (p_i)^(a_i) odd.

Thus n has a form n = 2^k * m^2 (where m is an odd integer).

Now then the sum of divisors of 2^k * m^2 = (1 + 2 + 2^2 + ... + 2^k)*sigma(m^2) = 2n + 1 = 2^(k+1)*m^2 + 1, or

(2^(k+1) - 1)sigma(m^2) = 2^(k+1)m^2 + 1.

I claim that 2^(k+1) - 1 does not divide into 2^(k+1)m^2 + 1, hence a contradiction.

Proof.

Suppose on the contrary 2^(k+1) - 1 divides into 2^(k+1)m^2 + 1.

Note that 2^(k+1)m^2 + 1 = (2^(k+1) - 1 + 1)m^2 + 1 = (2^(k+1) - 1)m^2 + m^2 + 1.

Thus 2^(k+1) - 1 must divide into m^2 + 1.

Let p be a prime divisor of 2^(k+1) - 1. Then p is odd and m^2 = -1 (mod p). Raising to the power of (p-1)/2, we get (m^2)^((p-1)/2) = (-1)^((p-1)/2) (mod p) or m^(p-1) = (-1)^((p-1)/2) (mod p). By fermat's little theorem, m^(p-1) = 1 (mod p) thus 1 = (-1)^((p-1)/2) (mod p) which reveals that p = 1 (mod 4). However, if a = 1 (mod 4) and b = 1 (mod 4) then ab = 1 (mod 4) (since ab - 1 = a(b-1) + (a-1)) thus the above discussion would imply that 2^(k+1) - 1 would have a form 4r + 1 for some integer r! Contradiction since 2^(k+1) - 1 = 4*2^(k-1) - 1, which has a form 4r + 3 instead!

Thus k = 0 and so n = 2^0 * m^2 = m^2, an odd perfect square.
