So here I am on this camping trip and one of the guys is supposed to bring charcoal for the BBQ. Anybody who organizes BBQ's knows that the charcoal guy is the kind of easy job you give to somebody who would probably screw up something complicated. The task is a simple one, buy charcoal, bring charcoal, how could that be screwed up?
Well, it can be. We had ILLEGAL ALIEN CHARCOAL. The word for a bag of charcoal in Spanish is "El Carbon" which makes sense since our elements are mostly latin, Spanish is a Latino language and "carbon" is really what charcoal is made of.
Another thing made out of carbon is diamonds. Have you ever tried to light a diamond for a BBQ? This charcoal was about as ignitable as your average diamond ring. I have never seen so much effort put into a simple act of arson as what we had to do to get this illegal alien charcoal lit.
We poured so much charcoal lighter fluid on this sack of charcoal from Hell that we had liberals gathering with "No Blood For Oil" signs marching in protest. I was trying to light this stuff up with a MAPP GAS TORCH which is normally used for welding on household plumbing and this charcoal wouldn't burn.
You could replace the tiles on the SPACE SHUTTLE with this charcoal and it wouldn't burn up in the atmosphere. We had this stuff in a steel BBQ grill and we had better luck getting the steel to burn than we did this horrible charcoal with the Spanish label "El Carbon" on it.
We did manage to cook with the stuff, but not because it was burning. It was because we'd gotten the steel grill so hot trying to light those cubes of asbestos with torches and gasoline and charcoal lighter fluid that the metal was glowing red hot from the effort.
Now we specify "NAME BRAND CHARCOAL". No "EL CARBON".

That's no story, that really happened. What's funny is that I take a MAPP GAS TORCH on camping trips. Everybody else takes these little clicker candle lighters, and those things suck so bad because they're like good for one or two lights and then they stop working.
Not me, nope! I am not going to buy any wimpy little Bic. I want a full-on WELDING setup and no messing around. WHOOOSH!!! FLAME ON BABY!!
It's a good thing I'm not a smoker. I'd have eyebrows that look like Dick Gephardt using that thing as a lighter.

Some people here can attest to the fact that I'm an early riser. I don't drink coffee much myself but I make it first thing in the morning as a survival tactic.
You see, waking up early and moving around you make noises that might wake other people up, but if you make the coffee they're not liable to kill you. You can go from being the villain who woke everybody up to the nice guy who made the morning coffee instead.
I told you that story to tell you this one.
Tents are not known for having very thick walls and being little thicker than your typical bedsheet, any noises you make in the tent can be easily heard by other people in the campground.
Anyway, out camping I had no coffee I could make for my own self-preservation but I did wake up early as usual so I crafted the Gameboy Plan. I had in my tent a Gameboy DS and a copy of New Super Mario, so my master plan was to sit in my tent with my headphones on and play my video game for a couple of hours so as to not disturb anyone and get myself brutally beaten for waking a bunch of people up with no peace offering in sight.
I did not know that I actually make noises while playing video games. Apparently I do because about three people asked me what in the Sam Hill I was doing all alone in my tent making funny noises at 5:00 in the morning.
I guess when people hear you say words like "Jump! Jump! Dash! Koopa!" they think you're actually doing odd things by yourself.
Next camping trip, I'm taking coffee.

Mario has never been the same since he started on his magic mushroom binge.
It's sad really, in the old-school game "Donkey Kong" all he needed to kick serious ass was his hammer and now you don't even see him pick up a tool anymore at all. Just the 'shrooms.
I'd go for the hammer over the fungus for power myself, I mean seriously if I wanted to destroy some Koopa I wouldn't be looking for no mushroom at all, I'd be finding myself that ball-peen hammer and going Jackie Chan on their shells.
I'd be making me some turtle soup, yessirree and then maybe I'd have a use for some mushrooms but for kicking shell, you can't beat the sledgehammer.

From experience . . . When he early risers have got up and the coffee is brewing over a campfire. The one who stumbles out of a tent, accidentaly kicks the stick holding the grate that the coffee pot sits on . . . causing said coffee pot with almost done coffee to fall in the fire . . . extinguishing the fire . . . said stubling person wakes up rather quickly while running for his life.

I think it has a lot to do with the PBJ Sandwich Syndrome.
Most everybody has made a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, and most everybody has had the same sandwich made for them too. However, no matter how hard you try, the sandwich you make will never taste as good as the sandwich somebody else made for you.
It's the PBJ Sandwich Syndrome. You can use twice the peanut butter and it won't help. You can double up on the jelly and it won't do. The sandwich made for you will always taste better than any you can make for yourself.
It's a psychological thing. Somebody cared, somebody thought about you and because taste is actually a function of the brain, the combination of the taste of the sandwich and somebody doing that for you causes the PBJ Sandwich Syndrome of taste amplification.
The morning coffee is just an extension of that. People love being pampered a bit, even if it involves boiling hot water.

I'm not usually the campfire starter. I've done it, but we have a resident pyromaniac who loves to start big fires. Ain't no pot of coffee on the planet would put out a fire she starts.
Have you ever watched Conan the Barbarian and the big funeral pyre they had to cremate the dead? Child's play compared to what our resident pyromaniac does for a campfire. I swear one of these days we'll have the Space Shuttle come in for a landing thinking we're Cape Canaveral.
She actually builds this thing up like a kid building a card house out of a deck of cards, but she's using lumber and it's way bigger than a card house. I've seen bums living in smaller houses than this and then when she lights it up, the oxygen just sucks in. If there wasn't a hole in the ozone layer, there is now!
It's a good campfire though. If Al Gore ever found out about this we'd be charged with felony Global Warming.

It just happens to be Lousiana's Republican and Democrat Presidential Primary Election Day. Probably not the best day to be at the airport.

For Gene....
I urgently needed a few days off work,
But, I knew the Boss would not allow me to take leave.
I thought that maybe if I acted "Crazy"
Then he would tell me to take a few days off.
So, I hung upside-down on the ceiling and made funny noises.
My co-worker (who's blonde) asked me what I was doing.
I told her that I was pretending to be a light bulb,
So, that the Boss might think I was "Crazy" and give me a few days off.
A few minutes later the Boss came into the office and asked,
"What in the name of good GOD are you doing?"
I told him I was a light bulb.
He said, "You are clearly stressed out."
Go home and recuperate for a couple of days."
I jumped down and walked out of the office...
When my co-worker (the blonde) followed me, the Boss asked her,
"..And where do you think you're going? "She said, "I'm going home, too. I can't work in the dark."

I had a girlfriend with the long acrylic nails. She was opening a store door (the one's with the thumb latch) and caught her thumbnail in it. Pulled it clean off. One of the grossest things I've seen was her lovely long nail - with the bloody cuticle still attached - stuck in the latch
The scream was picked up by seismic sensors in Japan!

I'm sure you can find trouble without help from anyone.
well this is true and thankfully I'm not naive enough to fall for Rick's poorly laid trap. *hmph*

Saw someone in here, dissing my TIDE with some kind of war chicken call. Unacceptable, the guy even was from LA and not Bama. Just jealous that Saban left LSU to end up at a better school.
So again, in support of my Alma Mater:

If startled, yes. Yes they do...

I think some carry a rattle
My parents have rattlesnakes on their property. Nothing more ominous than walking through a field of grass only to put one's foot down and hear that noise they make when they shake their tails.....freaky!!! Amazing how fast one can run backwards.
Always wear heavy boots when walking in tall grass.
And what's even freakier is my 69 y/o mom has chopped a few of their heads off with her shovel. :))
