I did a coffee experiment to see if all beans were created equal and put Navy beans in a coffee grinder to make Navy bean coffee.

Do you know how some ideas seem good on paper but in practice things work out totally different? The results weren't good at all. My coffee pot got slimed, the whole house smelled like a crock pot gone wild video shoot and it tasted like hot swamp water with creamer in it.

It had to be tried though. Inquiring mind wanted to know.

On the bright side, I'm fairly sure it was decaffeinated.

That stuff nearly got me kicked out of the United States Navy.

I got a crock pot and made that 15 bean soup, by the directions except I misunderstood one minor detail... the directions said to put two cloves of garlic in the soup and I did not know the difference between a clove of garlic and a head of garlic, so I put two heads of garlic in the soup.

It was actually still edible, in fact I had seconds but the next day we had a surprise inspection and nobody, but nobody, wanted to stand in formation anywhere near me. I stunk of garlic but bad, I was sweating the stuff out in amounts that would flat out cause a vampire evacuation in Transylvania and of course the odor was noticed during the inspection.

So, I wound up standing in formation... a formation of one. Downwind. That got the attention of the inspector who wound up sending me to sick bay for a bath, and he suggested I go to the mess hall for a cooking lesson.

On the bright side, I've never seen a vampire since that fateful day.

Medium rare is an oxymoron. Medium is middle-of-the-road, and Rare is hard to find.

So medium rare is a middle of the road that's hard to find??

I want my meat cooked. It wasn't even two weeks ago that we had E. Coli in Arizona here, nobody dead but probably wishing they were, and if they'd have just went for well-done there wouldn't be an issue. It's still kinda gross eating cooked colon-contaminated stuff but I can go with gross but not fatal.

Heck, I voted for John McCain and that's gross but not fatal. Maybe. He's getting REALLY bad lately.

I've just got a normally abnormal mind. Lateral thinking is what separates men from machines.

The reason why there's such a challenge and a stall in the field of artificial intelligence is because intelligence seems to require lateral thinking and nobody can figure out how to program that.

Consider that people can have memories triggered by a familiar smell, or a song they hear, or a landmark they see and you've got an idea what lateral or nonlinear thinking is.

I have noticed something really strange in my line of work. I'm a radio tech and I work on 911 dispatch systems all the way from the telephone call to the fire station and understand everything that happens in between. Radio, Data, Telephone, doesn't matter to me and I don't stop at any one comm system.

Only 10% of the American population is left-handed. Easily 80% of the techs in my radio shop are left-handed. Once I noticed that, it took me a little bit to figure out why. I think I know why now.

My first theory was that left-handed people had brains "wired" differently so they were better troubleshooters but that wasn't it. I had overthought the problem. The reason why left-handed people make better technicians is because growing up in a right-handed world, they face more problems to solve. The reason left-handed people are better at solving problems is because they have to solve more of them.

I think like a southpaw. Lateral thinking comes naturally to me. If anybody ever does invent an artificial intelligence machine, it'll be right-handed.

Etymology for the word "Sinister" reveals that it comes from the Latin word "Sinistre" which means "Left".

Since left-handed people are typically more clever, and different, they are seen as evil. Pretty much the same take Nazis had on Jews because it's hard to sell the case that you're the superior race when another race has all your money.

Left-handed people typically do very well which is probably which is probably why the jealousy got the Latin term for "Left" to be "Sinister" in English.

They burned witches in Salem, too. I wonder how many of them were southpaws?

You're educational, sweetheart, I'll give you that. Never heard that term before and I had to Google it. Too funny!

My Judo Club used me a lot like Professional Baseball loves the left-handed pitcher. Judo is only wrestling, it's not about chopping or punching, in fact there are no strike moves in the art of Judo whatsoever. The "Judo Chop" is complete baloney, it doesn't exist and anybody hitting their opponent in Judo would be summarily disqualified and lose the match.

I don't act left-handed because my second-grade teacher (we're talking 1972 in KANSAS here) beat my left hand bloody every time I used it in her class with a ruler. She didn't allow left-handed students. She called me "Devil Spawn" to my face for picking things up with my left hand. So, I'm right-handed, but not really. I'm probably also completely demented and my career as a left-handed pitcher for Major League Baseball is gone, but on the brighter side I can fool right-handers into thinking I'm one of them.

I agree with spaying and neutering so much that I'm neutered myself. In humans they call it vasectomy, but it's the same basic idea. I don't have kids, don't want them and won't ever have them. Not my style.

Funny how liberals consider baby factory welfare queens to be a great responsibility of government to finance but then they'll sterilize puppies and call that "Animal Rights".

Live dangerous, I do. My latest brush with danger was the electrified flyswatter. A $3.99 electrified flyswatter.

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=40122

You can't make this stuff up. You can sentence bugs to "The Chair", zapping them dead with 1,500 volts and it only costs FOUR BUCKS? What the heck is anybody buying a TASER for? Load the cops up with these bad boys!

Anyway, I went to the Harbor Freight Tools store where these implements of destruction were sold and I obtained one for use in a hastily crafted revenge plot against the mosquitoes at work which had been snacking upon me. Only female mosquitoes bite, you know. The males aren't the bloodsuckers of the species. They're kinda like humans that way. I digress.

Batteries nearly doubled the purchase price of this most lethal pest control implement, so I'd paid $4 for the swatter and $3 for the batteries not included, and with the tax I'd paid about $8 for the most lethal insect weaponry west of the Pecos. I was by-gum ARMED AND DANGEROUS.

Did I mention dangerous? I looked on the device for a UL Code listing to see if it had been tested for safety. I needn't have bothered because one look at the manual showed they didn't even spring for a decent proofreader, much less a UL Laboratories safety test.

"CHANGE THE BATTERIES WHILE THE VOLTAGE IS LOWER"

Verbatim from the manual, which incidentally is a piece of paper that looks like it came out of a cheap xerox machine.

What I've got here is a 1,500 volt electrocution device that costs $4, has never been checked for safety and a manual that looks like it was written by Jackie Chan. Undeterred, I take this device to work to complete my revenge against the villainous female mosquitoes who snacked on me.

Seeing one of the ravenous she-beasts flying through the air, I hit the energize button and swung mightily at the insect, expecting arcs and sparks to fly as the subminiature dragon was slain, but alas there's nothing but a mosquito dead as can be caught in the mesh. Disappointed, but still victorious, I shook the body into the trash and laid the weapon upon my desk.

Everybody has a stupid coworker, and so do I. About an hour later I hear a yelling and hollering from my desk, and apparently the stupidest guy in the shop found this device and decided to see how much it hurt. Apparently it hurts a lot.

On the bright side, if Underwriters Laboratory wants a guy to test lethal insect electrocution devices from China, I know where they can find the guy for the job.

Police Use Taser On Naked Student Inside High School

Jan 30 2007 8:56AM

Police arrested a Westerville North High School student after he allegedly ran naked in the school's commons area during lunch on Monday.

Taylor C. Killian, 18, was charged with inducing panic, public indecency, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct, police said.

According to police, a school resource officer was twice forced to use his Taser on Killian in front of students.

The officer, Doug Staysniak, said he saw a naked man with a full beard and shoulder-length hair, yelling, screaming and flailing his arms as if out of control, enter the high school's commons area where lunch is served.

Staysniak told police that the man, whom he did not recognize, appeared very pale and looked to be sweating profusely.

According to police, the person who was later identified as Killian was running towards groups of students, scaring them and causing them to scream and run for safety.

Both Staysniak and a school administrator approached the teenager but he allegedly made sexual gestures towards the pair and continued to scare and chase students in the area.

Tasers are why streaking just isn't the fad it used to be in the 70's.

This kid was an honor roll student. I'd hate to see the dumb ones.

I guess if you have to live by the Great Lakes, Lake Ontario is the best one. I was stationed in North Chicago at the Naval Training Center there for a year and was completely unprepared for the brutal winter. I'm from Phoenix, Arizona and I've lived here pretty much all of my life so I don't do cold weather very well. If it gets down below 60° here I'll bundle up like an Eskimo.

I've found one thing in my travels about cities and how old they are relates to how crazy their layout is. For example, the New Orleans French Quarter is about as old as the USA gets, it's been a city for longer than America has been independent and the crazy street layout shows it. Phoenix is a lot newer and planned out better. The really really old cities I've been to like Madrid, Spain are completely bizarre, as in the streets don't even bother with North or South or anything. That's what happens when you build a city before you've invented the compass I guess.

A lot of the roads you end up with in older places were previously just the paths horse and carts took and they would go all over to just to stay on flat land and avoid fallen debris.

Some cities should take the time to widen streets and rework them. I headed down to DC later this year for some vacation and wondering if I should even bother bringing a car.

I've been to DC. The parking costs more than the car. It was bad before the September 11th attacks and now with public buildings restricting parking to avoid car bombing attacks, it's got to be even worse than ever.

I wasn't on vacation when I went though, I was in Bethesda, MD for a technical school for the military and just happened to find a bus going that way. It's a really interesting place with a lot of history but my favorite historical place is still Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia.

If I'd have known about that place when I was a kid, I'd have probably made a good effort to get into the College of William and Mary there. I'd have loved that, heck I'd probably have never graduated and be on my 20th year of college by now.

Oh goody! It's not like we're cancelling Christmas.

Some joker went and put Christmas on a Tuesday this year. What the heck is that about?

Martin Luther King had the decency to be born on a Monday every year but it's beyond the ability of Jesus Christ to be born on a Monday all the time? What the heck? Easter's always on a Sunday so how is it you can get Resurrected on a Sunday every year but you can't keep the Birthday on a Monday?

Who the heck was in charge of this anyway? I want Christmas on MONDAY!

but GEEEEENE......it's Wonder Woman!! You know..Lynda Carter...you love her!

She's a Phoenix native, you know.

The thing about Wonder Woman is here you've got an illegal alien who gets a government job, free health care and a drivers license and nobody says anything about it.

Why? It's because she dresses patriotic, waves the flag, goes rah-rah USA and catches bad guys that American won't catch.

If other illegal aliens would just start waving the right flag once in a while maybe they'd get the welcome wagon too.
