Nope...ya'll are confused and have poor memories.
the backyard is bigger than you think and I've always cut both using a riding lawnmower and it takes a lot longer than ten minutes!

and Gene...do they still make those non motorized push mowers??
of course the push mower has a motor on it!! sheeeesh.

http://www.amazon.com/American-Lawn-Mower-Company-1815-18/dp/B00004R9UK/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2/103-5846441-6799067?ie=UTF8&s=hi&qid=1181408271&sr=8-2

American brand makes them. I've got that one. It's nice, quiet, and the gentle whirring sound of the blades is a soothing reminder that you're one with nature and chopping it up.

The secret to using a reel mower like that is to mow a couple of times a week and never let the grass get away from you. Otherwise it's hopeless and the grass just folds down under the blades instead of getting cut by them.

My other mower could more than do your yard, the Sears 6.0 Horsepower self-propelled power mower I've got wouldn't even break a sweat. Put it in drive and just kinda walk behind it holding the dead-man switch so the motor keeps running and you aim it in the general direction where the grass needs destruction at and it's easy.

I like the push mower better though. It takes less gas and impresses the liberals.

This could be much worse than it seems if the situation were reversed and Goodlife's back yard were to be ungraced and Ricks butt were flooded.

It's not that bad. I clicked on it and it's decent enough you'd see it on television, but I've gotta say I was really scared about what it could be. I had my hands on the power switch ready to cut that sucker off like Marie Antoinette losing her last appeal.

It's some latina rock star I never heard of doing a fandango at some awards ceremony is all. Nothing too bad although the choreography wasn't as impressive as you'd find in a typical Jackie Chan movie.

I don't know who Shakira is. How would I know who Shakira is? I just checked my iPod for "Shakira", 500+ songs on my iPod Nano and not even ONE Shakira song on it.

Brad Paisley? Yes.
The Bangles? Yes.

Heck, I've even got Janis Joplin on my iPod, but no Shakira. NONE. At all.

Okay, I can cheat like a Democrat and use my Rhapsody account to look this up.

Home Town

Barranquilla, Colombia

Latin pop diva Shakira has achieved phenomenal success and become a genuine pop icon. Born to humble beginnings in Barranquilla on Colombia's Caribbean coast, she left for the capital city of Bogota as an aspiring model at age 13. Ironically it was her music that garnered attention. Singing and writing lyrics since she was 8, her first album for Sony was released when she was 14. Although sales were meager, the album helped launch her career as a soap opera actress. Then came Pies Descalzados (1995), an album which showcased her bold, flexible voice and yielded a string of huge hits. Her mixture of rock ballads and Dance Pop (with an occasional tropical touch) is filtered through her image as a talented, beautiful and headstrong young woman. Departing from the traditional image of Latin American women, Shakira's music and persona aroused controversy when her multiplatinum records put her in the spotlight. Following in the footsteps of Selena, she represents a bold new Latina who will be neither obsequious nor silent. As Shakira has matured, so has her music, as demonstrated in songs such as the Arabic-inflected "Ojos Asi" as well as in her live performances.
- Robert Leaver

Hmm. Still never heard of her. I'm listening to "Hips Don't Lie" and it sounds more like Rap Music than Latin Pop.

Goodlife got me a car adapter for my iPod Nano about a year ago that works out really well because it's got a patch cable that goes straight into my car stereo. It's illegal to drive in Arizona with headphones on so that doohickey keeps me legit on the road.

I think I only paid $200 for the iPod, but you're right, there are definitely less expensive players out there if you just want a player. I just picked up a beater Sansa m240 for misadventuring like going tubing on the Salt River or going to Puerto Peñasco in Mexico because you just don't take anything on the beach or on the river that you're not willing to lose.

http://reviews.cnet.com/mp3-players/sandisk-sansa-m240-1gb/4505-6490_7-31563923.html

It's hard to beat a decent 1 GB mp3/wma player for $40. iPod won't even play wma and it doesn't have an FM tuner in it either plus it's twice the price per gigabyte.

The iPod is more useful for work for me because of its sync with Outlook scheduling and the phone lists, memos and such.

Dispatchers really don't get paid well enough and I think it's because the job has an extreme turnover rate. Of all the dispatchers I work with, I can count on one hand the number who have lasted over five years on the job. It's a tough job and pays crummy in a classic catch-22. It pays low because it can't keep people and it won't pay better because of the high turnover rate.

I wouldn't want that job. Not that I couldn't do it, I can definitely operate the equipment. I can tear it apart and put it back together too if Motorola made it, as I'm a factory-trained tech. It's the people skills I'd lose it on. First call I got from an idiot I'd call 'em an idiot and get fired.

We had one call come in from a guy called 911 to report a robbery by a Soda machine that took his dollar and didn't give him a soda. Oh, eek. He thought a 911 dispatcher should get a cop out there to arrest the owner of the machine and give him his dollar back. I wouldn't have the patience or diplomacy to do much else besides saying "Shut up you jackass." and hang up on him. Which would get me fired from a job I wouldn't like doing anyway.

It's hard to beat a decent 1 GB mp3/wma player for $40. iPod won't even play wma and it doesn't have an FM tuner in it either plus it's twice the price per gigabyte.

For birthday presents, I actually found little mp3 players for $40 for my three girls. They play wma format . . . I can stick 1000 songs on them in that format or about 300 in mp3. FM radio.

Our center has one of the lowest turnover rates in the state. Out of 7 dispatchers 5 of them have 8 yrs or more. One has 28 years.

You have to learn to tacktfully tell idiots, they are idiots :) Even officers . . . especially officers. Because of you call them idiots, they can make your life hell.

I made a test channel on the consoles for some of the cards called "Tester" (okay, so I'm not real imaginative with names) and hooked my iPod to the system to be an audio source. $60,000 radio consoles were playing the Beach Boys Greatest Hits because I wanted to test my spares before I actually needed them under a live fire condition. A couple of the dispatchers saw what I was doing and listened in on my test channel. They wanted it kept up as a regular console feature, which could be done but it's a pretty gross violation of resource management. Testing the spares through the system I can justify; that makes sense to even the bean-counters when you say public safety readiness, but as a regular feature it doesn't fly.

For birthday presents, I actually found little mp3 players for $40 for my three girls. They play wma format . . . I can stick 1000 songs on them in that format or about 300 in mp3. FM radio.

Those things are great for kids and here's the reason why:

Kids don't take very good care of things all the time, and a CD album costs about $15. You can fit 30+ CD's on a $40 player, $1,200 worth of music and if they break it or lose it, they've only lost $40. Not so if they're walking around with 30 CD's.

Our center has one of the lowest turnover rates in the state. Out of 7 dispatchers 5 of them have 8 yrs or more. One has 28 years.

That's a tiny center if you're running three shifts. You'd be worked to the bone with only seven people even if you were only running three dispatch positions 24/7.

You have to learn to tacktfully tell idiots, they are idiots :) Even officers . . . especially officers. Because of you call them idiots, they can make your life hell.

Oh, I know and I underestimate my own patience a lot.

I had an election volunteer with a radio bring the radio to me, on election day, to tell me the portable wasn't working. Being the tech on duty, I fielded the complaint and asked her for the radio to examine it, and she pulled it out of her purse. Looking at the radio, I noticed a missing part and asked her for the antenna, which she also pulled out of her purse. I reattached the antenna, and the radio worked. I returned the radio and asked her why she did that, and she wanted it to fit in her purse.

I didn't say what I wanted to say, which would have involved telling her to fit the radio where I thought she had her head stuck, but rather I told her that the radio really does need that part to function correctly.

Tact is a virtue. It ain't as much fun as it's cracked up to be though.

The 10 and 11 year old I'm not so worried about. They've had a case of cd's and a cd player for almost a year now. They havn't lost/damage a cd yet. But keep misplacing the player. The 5yr old is the one I'm worried about. But they know when they get something like this, if it gets lost or broken, that's it .. . . unless they get another one for christmas or a birthday (and that's a LOOOOOONG wait for a kid.)

That's a tiny center if you're running three shifts. You'd be worked to the bone with only seven people even if you were only running three dispatch positions 24/7.

You'd get claustraphobic in our radio room :) We have to have two bodies at consouls 16 hrs a day. the other 8 hrs we have to have 1. Right now we have 8 dispatchers, next week it turns to 7. The memeber agencies have also approved another full time position. So hopefully by the end of the year we will have 8 of us, 2 supervisors, and the center manager. If a major incident is happening, but not in the city with the center. We've had officers come in and answer phones for us (or make call outs.)

Some time back, we had an officer who was having trouble reaching dispatch, and hearing dispatch. He had wonderful cell phone service. So after he was through on his stop, I know just enough to be dangerous. So I had him checking the antena cable at the radio (yea it's tight), then had him check the cable at the anteana. Come to find out, he needed something out of the trunk, and left it open. Antena was pointed almost strait the the ground. Funny, his radio started working perfect as soon as he closed the trunk!
