Hope is about the only thing left as the toy surprise in a box of Cracker Jacks.
Have you had Cracker Jacks lately? The toy surprises used to be COOL when I was a kid. We'd get plastic magnifying glasses to set fires with, little prisms to make rainbows with, kaleidoscopes and good fun things that would probably ruin our eyes for life but now??
Cracker Jacks suck now. Buncha lame stickers and cheap rub-on tattoos are all you get. They've cheaped out on the peanuts too, it used to be you'd get a few peanuts in every handful but now it's like all popcorn and three peanuts in the whole box.
If I'm going to ruin my teeth for life, I want better prizes and more peanuts.

I had two hurricanes total the whole time. When Sidestreamer started looking woozy I gave up on those things. They were good but too potent.
Hurricanes are subtle too, you don't see it coming and I figured out why; it's the citric acid in the drink that disguises the alcohol "bite" so there's a lot more booze in there than it tastes like.
The drink I miss the most is the Daiquiri "Crawgator" which is basically a frozen orange/pineapple concoction and again, the bite is disguised. Of course, if you name something "gator" there's probably a bite in there but it does require some watching because if you don't taste the bite, you'll feel it.
I thought I was going to fall on my tuckus after the two Hurricanes. The drink is aptly named because a couple of those and your world is spinning.

True! You used to get lots of peanuts, and they were 10c a box. And the toy surprises were toys and a surprise. Now they're the same ol' lame thing - no surprise. Few peanuts and the popcorn is usually stale. And the boxes are smaller too.

The caramel ain't right either, it used to be totally sticky like you'd eat it and you could smack your teeth together and feel the sticky trying to open your jaw again but now that's not there anymore.
The caramel is wimpy.
The peanuts are all but gone.
The toy surprises suck worse than Al Gore doing the Macarena.

I wish it were that easy.
I'm going to tell you an innermost secret. You can't tell anybody else. I listen to Weird Al Yankovic polkas to keep the pace of my walks up around 4 MPH. They run about 120 beats per minute and keeping the pace is a bit hyper, but effective as a workout.
There has to be fun involved all the way or I know I won't stick to the program.
Some of the weight gained was water retention, surely not all of it but I keep thinking if I'd have been a good boy and gone with Amanda and Jeremy (Death Star) on that ten mile run, I could have kept up and stayed on target. There was another bike there that I was looking at. No, I can't run ten miles and be ready to go the rest of the day, but biking ten miles is in my doable list.
When I'm good, I'm really really good. When I'm bad, I act like I'm on Bourbon Street.
Not much grey in between with me.

I like Arizona's total lack of natural disasters. Most of our disasters are political. I think we've only had three Governors in the past forty years who haven't been indicted and we've got to apologize to the entire Republican Party for foisting John McCain on them.

Since I've been out here:
Williams - great (even the Rag liked him - but the Rag then wasn't the Rag now)
The "Rag" is the Arizona Republic as dubbed by Hannity soundalike (but not lookalike) Bruce Jacobs. The paper used to be called the "Arizona Republican" but changed the name when truth in advertising was in vogue.
Castro - moderate
I always thought it was HILARIOUS that the Governor was named "Castro" (Raul Castro iirc) and we had to say No No No, not THAT Castro! Phoenix was like a little Havana going on back then. When is that, had to be around the mid 1970's. Wallace and Ladmo were still on TV back then. How do you even REMEMBER that? I've lived in Arizona since 1973 and I barely remember that.
Bolin - great (but he died too soon)
and then it went way down
Nearly as good as Barry Goldwater was and probably the last of the truly great Arizona politicians. Maybe Herb Drinkwater from Scottsdale too.
Babbitt - lousy (liked to break the law - horrible in the Clinton admin too)
Bruce Babbitt (Governor Babble we called him) was from a huge ranching family here in Arizona and he turned backstabber as Clinton's Secretary of the Interior on the very industry that made his family name famous.
Mecham - lousy (busted for illegally loaning his car company money)
Ev Mecham the Mouth. Dude could not open his yap without offending some group or another. I seriously cringed whenever he gave a press conference.
Mofford - lousy (although her hairdo, while goofy, was better than Mecham's hairpiece)
Rose Mofford, the Stealth Governor, pretty much rode into office after Ev Mecham got impeached. Really close ties to some wise guys out of Las Vegas. Nasty business that.
Symington - good (got busted in a BS case that was later thrown out; before a power-hungry judge could retry him, he got pardoned - by CLINTON! And heck, he didn't even have to PAY for it!)
Fife "The Knife" Symington who evaded his creditors on the Mercado Fashion Mall he built by claiming it was all his wife's money. Kinda reminded me of John Kerry when he said the limo he was riding around in was his families and not an asset of his. Quite the wheeler-dealer playing fast and loose with other people's money.
Hull - moderately lousy (RINO)
Propane Jane Hull, alternative fuel maven who signed onto the buy one get one free car deal if you'd just have propane installed in both of them. Price of that to the Arizona taxpayers was over $60 Million in free car giveaways for cars that had little gas grill sized propane tanks that never got used anyway.
Crappy Nappy - the worst
Janet Napolitano may sound more familiar to those who remember the Anita Hill/ Clarence Thomas debacle as she was the lawyer for Anita Hill. Ultra liberal and wants to give illegal aliens drivers licenses. Refuses to enforce propositions that voters passed to curb illegal aliens receiving welfare from the State. Completely despicable and in contempt of the will of the voters.
Our track record of Governors is not a shining beacon on a hill, that's for sure.

A Jew, a Black, a Mexican and a Bigot are sitting on a park bench. Under the bench, they find a magic lantern. They rub it and out pops a Genie. The Genie sees the four and says "I don't know how this works with more than one, so I'll just give you each a wish."
The Jew looks at the Genie and says "My people have faced persecution for centuries, we've been trying to have a homeland of peace, prosperity and love for over a thousand years and what I wish for is such a land."
POOF!! The Jew vanishes and the Genie announces "He has been sent to Israel, the Middle East conflicts are all resolved, and he lives with all of his people in peace and harmony."
The Black looks at the Genie and says "My people have been oppressed as well, and I too would echo the same wish. I want a land with my people living in peace and harmony and happiness."
POOF!! The Black vanishes and the Genie announces "He is in Africa, all conflicts are solved and he too lives with his people in peace, love and prosperity."
The Mexican looks at the Genie and says "This is a wonderful wish! I too want to be among my people in prosperity with an end to poverty, strife and conflict. Make it so, Genie."
POOF!! The Mexican vanishes and the Genie looks at the Bigot and says "Okay, you know the drill. What do you want?"
The Bigot says "Let me get this straight... All the Jews are in Israel, all the Blacks are in Africa, and all of the Mexicans are in Mexico?? I'll just take a Diet Coke, thanks."

The most wrong thing I've seen lately is all the diet soft drinks with the word "Zero" in the title. You've got Coke Zero, you've got Sprite Zero, and you've got Cherry Coke Zero.
Why would I want to buy something Zero? A Zero is one of those Japanese planes that used to attack our troops isn't it? Zero has never meant good. Zero in your bank account means you're broke. If a date ends with a girl calling you a Zero then that's probably your last date. If your blood pressure is Zero then you're officially dead.
Now the Coca-Cola company is moving away from Zero and we're getting Diet Coca-Cola Plus, a fortified drink with vitamins and minerals. They're hitting the markets next month with this Diet Coke Plus and what the heck happens if you mix Diet Coke Zero and Diet Coke Plus?
Is that a drink or a math problem?
Then there's Pepsi One which really messes the whole thing up. You've got Pepsi One, Coke Zero, and Coke Plus. You could have a whole calorie-free math lesson going on! Heck, I thought these companies were in the soft drink business and they're doing algebra?
No wonder Americans are getting fat. If there's any more math in the soft drink industry you're going to need a degree in physics to order a Diet Coke!

Sugar Content per ** 12oz ** can
7Up (Cadbury Schweppes) = 39 grams
Coca-Cola Classic = 39 grams
Dr Pepper (Cadbury Schweppes) = 40 grams
Minute Maid Orange Soda (Coca-Cola Co.) = 48 grams
Mountain Dew (PepsiCo) = 46 grams
Pepsi = 41 grams
Sprite (Coca-Cola Co.) = 38 grams
Sugar provides about 4 calories per gram, so that Coke Classic is 156 calories (4*39).
Not only does it rot your teeth, but a few of those and you too could look like Michael Moore.

I'm a lot worse than that. I'll drink a two liter bottle at a sitting no problem. If it weren't diet soda that plane would STILL be trying to take off with my fat rear end weighting it down.
Of course, we drink a lot more than other places what with this being a desert and all. The small cup at soda fountains here are 32 ounces. My favorite mug around the house is a 64 ounce monster, a half gallon cup with insulated sides. Thing weighs like four pounds when it's full.
If I were drinking Coke Classic in that thing one cup would be a whopping 832 calories. I'd be calling Michael Moore "Skinny Mike" in no time flat if I were downing the real stuff.

I'm a lot more organized in February than I am in March because the month is harder to spell so I've got to be smarter.
By the time May rolls around it'll be so easy to spell the name of the month that I'll be completely useless until August starts coming around and the names of the months get harder to spell again.

That was quite a conversation to be sure, with soupdragon asking me to marry her. I wasn't sure about the whole thing what with having to learn a new language called "Queen's English" because in America, "queen" means something entirely different and I didn't want to have to learn some queen foo-foo talk over fruity flavored coffee.
The heck of it all was, I had just gotten done with playing "Viva Piñata" on my XBox 360 and since the game is made by Rare, a UK Game Company, this game about Mexican Piñata creatures is completely narrated in British accents. The Piñata critters aren't even filled with candy, the Brits call them "sweets" which in America are fruity little cigars smoked by queens.
Anyway, after the whole accent overload, I decided I needed to "Americanize" or I'd go to sleep dreaming of queens and accents and fruity foo-foo coffee so I'd put in an all-American movie right out of Hollywood.
So I put in my DVD of "The Terminator" which is supposed to be not gay and wind up seeing Arnold Schwarzenegger, a guy with an accent, and he's totally naked at the beginning of the movie. I couldn't have POSSIBLY chosen a worse movie to Americanize and get straight with. :shifty:
I gave up and watched my ABBA concert DVD, and I'm making a pot of fruity foo-foo coffee now.

The heck of it all was, I had just gotten done with playing "Viva Piņata" on my XBox 360 and since the game is made by Rare, a UK Game Company, this game about Mexican Piņata creatures is completely narrated in British accents. The Piņata critters aren't even filled with candy, the Brits call them "sweets" which in America are fruity little cigars smoked by queens.
:)) Man oh man did you have an interesting night! LoL
Sorry I missed out on your and Soup's conversation last night, I always seem to miss out on the best conversations.

Black Cherry Foo Foo coffee is what I've got. It's not half bad. I did my grocery shopping yesterday and picked up some coffee which isn't normal for me, I usually don't even drink coffee but yesterday was a weird day for me overall.
Somehow I wound up with Dasani water bottles in my fridge too. I don't usually drink water out of my fridge because I've got two water coolers with hot and cold dispensers that I use, and Dasani is just a weird name for tap water anyway.
What the heck IS a Dasani? Sounds like a character out of The Lion King or something. I have no idea why I bought the stuff. I don't usually shop and come home with stuff I never use but I did yesterday with Fruity Foo Foo Coffee and Dasani.

Dasani means "Jew" in the Navajo language (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Navajo_language).

Well, I can't help you with the Dasani definition-with the exception it sounds like a little known funky disease or something.
But I have never heard of Black Cherry flavored coffee. The Chocolate Raspberry ain't bad, the blueberry is simply atrocious tho. I do like the "foo foo" flavors so I'm going to have to check that one out :)
And yea, it does sound as though you've had a strange day indeed

It's surprising they'd have a word for Jew, considering Navajo are mostly in Arizona and New Mexico which aren't well known for heavily Jewish populations.
I can't even get a decent bagel around this place. I'd never had a good bagel in my life so I didn't know any different, but I went to Chicago and had a REAL bagel which just put every bagel I've ever had in Arizona to shame.
Our strength out here is Mexican Food, for rather obvious reasons. We can't even get a White Castle Burger out here though.

I'd say if you're going to Israel and you wind up in Arizona that's beyond lost. Christopher Columbus didn't even get that lost. What the heck is the mileage on that?? That's 7,700 miles!!! Okay, if you're walking and you're off by 8,000 miles, then you've been walking around lost for YEARS.
Come to think of it, I've been walking around lost for years myself and I'm in Arizona. Plus I want a bagel. Could I be from the lost Jewish tribe?

Cell phone about drives me crazy, everything it does it wants to cost me money. Wants to download music, cost me money. Wants to download games and ringtones, cost me money.
Little nickle and diming freaky thing would bankrupt a parent if they ever gave something like that to their kid. I think that's what they want too, parents give these things to their kids, see games and music and go hog wild and then the parents get a bill like Congress had their cell phone for a month.
