Mess is what we called food in the Navy. Usually bore a fairly strong resemblance to a mess, actually.

There was always the mystery meat. They usually claimed it was hamburger, but when you chop and grind something that much it could be most any kind of protein from a couch cushion to an alien mutant space invader.

Worse than the mystery meat was the mystery vegetable. All we knew for sure was that it was green, mostly. The cover story for that was usually creamed spinach. You can call most anything creamed spinach and no matter how weird it tastes, it's totally believable. You can't even complain about it in the Navy because you'd be dissing the food of Popeye the Sailor and nobody, but nobody can get away with dissing Popeye food in the Navy.

The dessert was another sight, the stuff you can get away with calling Tapioca Pudding is just nearly infinite so long as it's not actually moving too much when it's served. I think when the "Tapioca" grows too big then they call it Rice Pudding, and if it gets any bigger it winds up as an ingredient in the creamed spinach. A little more protein and it could even be hamburger, you just never know.

I've been in messes before. Been there, ate that.

Yeah, I think Louisiana weather is fabulous too except for that whole Hurricane and national disaster thing you got going on there. When you're watching your weather reports for emergency evacuation alerts I'd be a little less happy with the general atmosphere of the place.

Yesterday it was overcast much of the day but I did go out and work on the pool for a while.

That's a pool? I thought it was Bucky's dog dish.

Saturday would have been a great day to be out on the river...it was packed!

That would be fun. I'd love a summer meetup for something like that.

It's not normally there because no guy wants to see little kid cartoon pictures printed on the TP, so it's a reminder that I need to buy more so I don't have to look at the embarassing stuff anymore.

I figure one pack of that stuff will last me at least a year. :think:
