Well because of the nature of this forum and the discussions that go on, I often wonder about age and generation gaps between those discussing things.

turning 30 was tramatic. I turned 30 and had my 3rd kid/and last in a week of each other. lol. Now, I am just gonna enjoy them as they come.

I'm lucky enough to come from a family that ages very well.

My Mom has wrinkles but as she says...at 89, they are well earned. Her hair though is the most beautiful shade of auburn and 100% natural in color.

My grandmother lived to see 99. So close she came to her 100th birthday and even at that age her hair had lots more pepper than salt.

What a wonderful testimony! My father was healthy at 84 until he had a wreck 4 years ago. My mother is well at 84 now. Speaking of natural hair! My mother said her grand mother had black hair when she died in the 70's. I said "mom, surely she died it". My mother said "NO she didn't either". My mother still has all her teeth too, at 84.

Me too! I'm more secure in myself than I've ever been in the past.

It's strange how passing 40 seems to just make things better all the way around. Atleast that's how it's worked for me personally.

I do need to get back into the workout thing. Before the storm I was spending 1 hour a day, 5 days a week in the gym. But then Katrina ate my favorite gym and they have not reopened since.

One of the girls that worked at the old gym opened a new but her's is one of those places that does nothing but arobic classes and such. I was really into core training...need a weight lifting buddy?

I have very dark features, hair, eyes, eyebrows, and lashes. The super dark brown kind of washes the color out a bit. So I add it back.

The older I get the more content and happpy I am. I actually enjoy the process. I mean really, you might as well enjoy it cause it isn't going to change. Why sweat getting older? I think you become wiser, more sure of who you are, more well rounded. Plus, once you are considered old, you can get away with a lot more than you could from your 30's - 60's. Just take care of yourself by eating right, moving around, stimulating the mind through learning and the heart by giving.

I saw a snippet on the news a couple weeks ago about aging....it said that people in their 40's (the world over) were the most unhappy, but after people passed their 40's, they were the happiest that they had ever been in their entire lives. The point being that when a person is young, they feel as though they have their whole lives ahead of them....they're busy shaping their lives. In their 40's, people tend to realize that they may not be who they thought they were going to be, their careers, family, dreams, etc. just didn't turn out to be what they had hoped. But once people get passed all that soul searching, they tend to become content w/ what they do have and to let go of what they don't have.............I know a great many 40 year olds on this board are the exception to this story, and they are all perfectly happy, but I have to say it was very true for me.....
I never had a problem w/ my age or my birthdays....until 45. 45 was hard...........but now that I am a few months past that, it's no big deal anymore.

Laugh lines are not signs of age. They are signs of life lived well and with humor.

Seriously look at some of the older celebs who have furiously worked at staving off the aging process by artificial methods. They often look terrible. Then look at the ones who have taken care of themselves in traditional ways but show the normal signs of aging. I prefer the latter any day.

Truthfully environment and lifestyle do play a role in our looks but genetics and attitude play a larger role.

Remember The Picture of Dorian Gray? ;)

Age is all in your head.

Absolutely. If you don't dwell on your age it is not a major factor. My older brother and I were discussing age one day and agreed that mentally we are still in our mid 30s. We do not identify with the image that society has of people in their 60s and thus we are not in our 60s. Last summer shortly after turning 60 I (being of Skandahoovian extract) was visiting my dermatologist for a check over and mentioned that milestone. She told me (and being an expert on skin I believed her) that I could pass as 50 easily. I attribute that to attitude, since I am sure it cannot be due to clean living. ;)

I go regularly to the dermatologist for full body scans....skin cancer scares me, and I know I'm "high risk"....my dermatologist told me that my skin was in great shape and did not reflect my chronological age at all. As someone who lives in the sun and LOVES the beach, I was very grateful to hear those words. Had to be great genes, cuz I know it wasn't my actions. ;)

It's rude and dangerous to ask a woman her age. :naughty:I remember thinking that 50 years old was 100 years away... I never, really, expected to get there.

THEN I remember BEING 50, and having a clerk ask me if I was eligible for a senior citizen discount.

It's all been a spiraling downhill journey since.

The only good thing I can say about being old is that I can get away with being abrupt now - I simply explain I don't have the time to pretty something up.

The BAD thing about that is my grandkids completely accept that explanation as plausible.

I don't know how to make a poll.

From the particular Forum you want to post in (WP; Gen Int. etc...) click on "new thread" button at the top of the discussion list. In that window scroll down past the text box and you will see a box titled "post a poll with this thread" you will also see "number of poll options." The default is 4; if you want more (up to 10) or less than that you can change it there, but you must select the number before you chose your poll options so figure that out before hand. Good luck.

was it something I posted?
I had seen a show (well a news segment on a morning show actually) that spoke about how many times the 40's were the hardest age for people....the idea being that they had not realized so many of the dreams they had, or perhaps their lives didn't turn out quite the way they had hoped and expected......however, once they accepted their life for what it was and themselves for who they were, then they were the happiest they had ever been in their entire lives.

Am I the only person here who gains insight on the perspective of fellow members by knowing about how old they are?

I would have suspected that kind of sarcasm from somebody in their forties. Are you sure you aren't lying about your age?

I have found that whatever age I am seems to be the best of my entire life. It could just be me but that is how I feel.

The hardest time I had ajusting was going from 33 to 34. Prior to my 34th birthday I could eat any and everything (and I did) without gaining any weight. After 34 I had to be careful, just looking at a menu would put 20 pounds on me.

What? I can't be a smart-aleck in my mid-fifties? I may mellow in my sixties but don't bet too much on it.

26, going on 27 in a couple weeks.

Nice poll by the way. Probably the only really honest one. Nice bell curve about the 30-39 year olds.

My mother's birthday was last week. She somehow or another convinced my girls that not only is she 16, but I'm 87.

I understand what you are saying. I, for the most part, feel the same way about myself. The first birthday I had a problem w/ was 21. :)) go figure. I just couldn't believe I was no longer a teenager, and I had no idea why time was flying by so quickly.....
never had another birthday give me any worries, until this past year. 45 kicked my butt. Usually I love my birthday. Usually I celebrate my birthday all month long. 45 kicked my butt. I'm over it now, but I have to admit, I did not like it at the time. :((

Yes... it is great data compared to what is normally collected in these Forums... and it explains why the majority of members are so frequently wrong. ;)

Hey! And look! We finally got somebody in the under 16 group! Welcome Kyle.
