Post your Random Rants About Movies here...

I'll start...

Footloose.

I Hated this Film when I was 13, and after watching about 90% of it again last night for the first time in 2 Decades...

I Hate it even more.

What a Terrible Film.

Predictable Stereotypical Liberal TRIPE.

I can just Imagine Jobless Liberals (Forgive the Redundancy), getting pumped up the night before a Pro-Abortion Rally by getting High and Watching this Movie to Reinforce their already Ignorant Perception of the Christian Right.

Intead of Fistfighting, these Necks Challenge new Kids to a game of Tractor Chicken?...

And who in the Hell runs to the Factory to Dance their Frustrations out Against the Mean old Preacher and the Sheepish Town who Follows him?...

Sorry, but nobody was Buying the Bacon/Singer Lover Affair...

Had we been in the Pokeback Mountain Era, Bacon and the Late Penn would have hooked up instead, cause that's Exactly where that was going.

One more thing, Loggins, what in the Hell is "Clack"?...

Terrible Film...

Made Top Gun look like one of the Greatest Films ever...

And Top Gun was NOT.

I'm done.

Next.

:)

Ever notice how some movies that you thought were really great when you were a kid seem like total crap when you grow up?

Like the early Chuck Norris movies, when he couldn't act his way out of a paper bag (still can't but he is getting a little better).

I hate going to a movie that you think is going to be entertaining, and then leaving feeling empty. One such movie for me was "The War Of The Roses". The entire time that Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner were fighting, I always wanted to believe that deep down, they were still in love, and in the case of the Douglas character, I think that was true.... but the Turner character was hateful to the very end, when both of them were laying there dying, and he tried to grasp her hand in an act of love, and she pulled hers away. That made me hate the whole movie and also made me wish I hadn't bothered at all.

Was 'There's Something About Mary' actually supposed to be a comedy? Stupid movie, not funny, and I can't for the life of me figure out why guys think that Cameron Diaz is so hot!!! Okay, she's not ugly, but she can't act fer crap... that could cover half of the women you pass on the street tomorrow!

Look at the dreck she's starred in, and explain again why it is she gets paid even half the compliments as an 'artiste' that she does.

Go into any video store and ask the clerk for a copy of "Rambo 2". Naturally, they will return with "Rambo: First Blood part 2". Insist that this is in fact "Rambo 1". If they try and give you "Rambo 3", reaffirm your demands for "Rambo 2". If they give you "First Blood" explain that this is a Rambo prequel, and that you wish to have "Rambo 2".

Bad reactions to movies:

The Perfect Storm - A movie about some dumbasses who decided to risk their lives for some money.... and lost.

Fight Club - Worst and most unbelievable twist in movie history.

Citizen Kane - Yawn. "Rosebud" Yawn. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Dr T and the Women - I'll never watch another Robert Altman movie.

House of the Dead - Absolutely horrendous. Why is Uwe Boll still given money to make movies?

Jeepers Creepers - The first 45 minutes ranked up there with the scariest movies of all time. After that it sucked hard.

Signs - Maybe the large blue sections of our planet should have been enough of a warning?

Dirty Dancing - Never saw it and I still hate it.

Punch-Drunk Love - An hour and a half of my life I want back.

Halloween III - *** was that?

Any Superman movie past Superman II - I'm not sure how many there were, but they were all crap, including Supergirl.

Fahrenheit 911 - Now I understand why black folks yell at the screen.

Any movie with Rosie Perez. Like fingernails on a chalkboard.

I can't stand 'comedies' anymore. They usually aren't funny, and all the humor now is just gross-out and toilet jokes. Mind you, those can be funny, but in certain situations, and that situation is not when I've forked over ten bucks to get in to the movies (not counting other related costs).

Time was a comedy could actually make most people laugh, instead of rolling their eyes at sophomoricly crude attempts at humor. Silly can be funny, when it's not too ham-fisted. A good example to me was Mystery Men, whose silliness I laughed at throughout.

Hollywood is where talent goes to die...

My rant now is with Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist. What a lame movie!

The critics loved it, but I for one can't figure out why. It was not scary in the least, the plot was contrived, and it was BORING! The guy who was allegedly demon-possessed exclaims "I am perfection!" as he stands with a withered hand! The demon-possessed guy looked like the long, lost cousin of The Mask!

Rudy - Here's a kid that had enough talent to be a starter on most small college football teams, and probably get a full scholarship for it. But instead, he pays his own way to Notre Dame, works his way onto the practice squad, gets his butt kicked every day in practice by the starters, and finally gets a 'victory' by being allowed to participate in a few meaningless plays at the end of his senior year. Sorry, I didn't find it very inspiring.

I rented The Visitation a few days ago. A fairly good film, but I wished that the movie was considerably more faithful to the original Frank Peretti novel of the same name. The movie leaves out very important scenes from the book that would have added context to the film.

My random film rant for the day.

The visitation is now available?!?!

I'm out the door now! Going to rent me a movie!

Was Brian Attempting to make a Serious Film with that Turd?...

Obviously the late 70's and early 80's weren't a Banner Period for Hollywood with a few Exceptions, but this Film had to be a Goof, right?...

have any of you ever seen this movie called Monuement Ave? It was directed by Ted Demme and stars Denis Leary as car theif in Boston. It's about Leary character being torn between his family's honor and loyalty to the gang he's in. Besides Rescue Me, this is easily Leary's best acting work.

Bit of an eclectic week:

'Waiting...' - Pretty good comedy with a heavy-handed dose of sexual humor. The scene with the waitress finally joining in the 'game' had me rolling on the floor.

'A History of Violence' - This movie doesn't fit to well into being categorized. At times it's a revenge action flick, and at others it's a melodrama. I'm not really a fan of movies that leave stories without an ending.

'Benchwarmers' - Eh. Fairly funny, but with Joe Dirt, Deuce Bigalow, and Napoleon Dynamite, I was expecting much more.

'Time Changer' - I'm a huge fan of time travel movies, and when I saw this on the shelf at the video store I snapped it up. When I watched it I discovered it was really a Christian movie disguised to look like a science fiction movie. The basic premise is a guy back in the 1890s writes a book that claims that good acts should be commended, even if they aren't rooted in Jesus' teachings. He's given a chance to go into the future (present day) to see the results of his book. Dispite the movie being very heavy handed (think sledgehammer) on the preaching, fairly badly acted (dispite some well-known names), and having bargain-basement special effects, I still found it interesting. It makes you think about how much Christianity has changed over the years. BTW, I did go back to the video store and check out the DVD's box again, and nope, no mention of it being a Christian film. Weird.

Did anyone see the movie Kung Fu Hustle? I watched it this weekend. It was pretty awesome. The action sequences (which was most of the movie) were phenomenal. It also had a great story line and was quite funny. It was subtitled, which really doesn't bother me much. I was too busy laughing at most of the movie to actually hear the dialogue anyway. STARZ is currently showing it. I don't think you need to be a fan of the whole martial arts genre to appreciate this one.

It was much scarier than the first Exorcist, which, looking back on it, was quite laughable. And all the performances were top notch. Brad Dourif has more or less made a name for himself playing psychos.

A pretty cool scene in the orig was cut from the theatrical release. Regan walks down the stairs somewhat spider like. She is on all fours, but she is face up, so you can see her face and stomach, rather than the back of her head and back. They sped up the footage, so it looked pretty cool. Her position is sort of like a yoga position that I think is called "the bridge", where you arch your back and put your hands over your head until they touch the floor.

What is up with the sound in movies nowadays? I'm watching something on my TV, two actors in the movie are interacting, dialogue, the sound is so low. I turn the volume up to 11 to listen to what they're saying and all of a sudden a phone rings, a car alarm goes off, whatever, and my eardrums are bleeding! It's SO annoying!

The Napoleon Dynamite thing. I have to admit, when I first saw it, I was like :eh: . Didn't think it was so hot. Every day after I rented it, though, I thought a little bit more, and the scenes and dialogue came back, and I found myself laughing more and more. I went out and bought the dvd 4 days after renting it. It's just a goofy movie, but I think it's kind of sweet and touching, as well as being funny. Napoleon to Uncle Rico: You don't have to stay with us...Kip's like 32 years old!

It still cracks me up!

One of the things I liked about it was there is no cursing. Napoleon says Gosh and flippin, but he doesn't drop any bombs. It's kind of nice, because my nieces like the movie, too, and I don't feel too strange watching it with them (they range from 10 - 17). I started watching 16 Candles with them once (my video) and I forgot there was some pretty bad language in there. Not that I'm a saint or anything, I can curse like a sailor, but I don't do it in front of kids...

This is why my step-dad says that he has to give up "24". He says that he loves the show, but the background noise is too loud that he can't hear the dialogue. I don't know why they do that. Commercials are always quite loud also.

I was looking for this thread over the weekend when 'Enemy Mine' was on and I wanted to rant about it. Truely a craptastic movie. It had potential, but when they got pregnant it went downhill and kept plummeting from there.

High Tension - If you're a fan of horror films, and you don't mind either subtitles or english dubbing, check out this one. It's from France, and it pegs the gore-dometer. It also has a neat little twist to it.

Click - Marketed as a comedy, and it has some funny moments, but it also has a serious side. If you enjoyed the move 'The Family Man' with Nick Cage, you'll probably like this one too.

Saw a craptabulous double feature at the drive-in:

Fast and Furious 3: Tokyo Drift - Unless you're really, really into cars, and hate things like plots, you should stay away from this one.

Nacho Libre - What a disappointment. I love Jack Black, and I loved Napoleon Dynamite, but this one was tough to sit through. Could have been because it was 1:00 in the morning, but I doubt it.

Just the name: Fast and Furious 3: Tokyo Drift sounds like something they would make up on 'The Soup' to mock it.

I hate it when they tell you at the beginning of the movie, "Based on a true story," but then everyone dies so there's no way anyone could have possibly known what the true story was.

Like "The Perfect Storm" and "Open Water".

I'm so glad I'm not the only one that really dislikes this. My wife just looks at me when I say things like this. That drives me up a wall!

Go with some mindless movies. When I had surgery, I did the Star Wars movies in order 1-6. Then threw in some Wedding Crashers, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Animal House, and Ghostbusters...yeah I had a lot of time on my hands.

Did anyone see "A history of violence"....

I'm a total lib and all but what was up with those too way-out-of-place sex scenes. It was the first time I ever say a sixty-nine in a mainstream holiwood movie and that scene on the stairs? The rest of the movie was like PG, with these 2 NC17 completely unneccessary scenes thrown in there. Maybe I had the directors cut?

this was blog i wrote a while ago about terrorism in films and the state of horror films. I thought you guys might like it. Just as a warning though, there's quite a bit of profanity in it

The State Of Film: Terrorists & Horror Films

"Muslims are protesting the movie The Siege claiming it portrays them as terrorists. Everyone's so politically correct these days. I saw a movie about the formation of The Crips and it starred Greg Kinnear and Jonathan Taylor-Thomas."
- Colin Quinn on Weekend Update

With the exception of True Lies, when was the last time a pop-corn film involving terrorism had Islamic fundamentalists as the bad guys? This has lead to what I like to call the "Politically Correct Terrorist".

The Sum of All Fears, when it was in book form had Islamic fundamentalists, but when they turned it into a film, the muslims were replaced by Nazis. Now this would have been perfectly fine if the setting of the film had been Poland in the 30's and 40's when they were still relevant. However, the film was set in modern-day DC and Baltimore and involved terrorists detonating a nuke at the Super Bowl, and I'm sorry, but the nazis don't strike me as having the means to do that type of work these days. I can't believe I'm saying this and I realize how bad this sounds, but the Nazis have now become politically correct.

Collateral Damage was a film with Arnold Schwartzenegger about a firefighter who's wife and son are killed in a bombing by Columbian terrorists. Arnold's character, Gordy Brewer (Don't you just love how Arnold always plays characters with names like Gordy Brewer?), then travels to Columbia to kill them. Originally the film was supposed to have Islamic fundamentalists and Arnold's character was a women's basketball coach (I couldn't make that **** up), but they decided to make to make him a fireman for believability and make the terrorist Columbians over "concerns".

Now I'm not trashing these films. For what they are (mindless action), they were well done, but the terrorist thing has been ****ing me off for a while now. I also want to make it clear that I have nothing against muslims. Yes, I'm well aware that the majority of them are fine people. But let's be honest, there's only one group that's actively performing suidcide bombings, and it's not 70-year-old polish women.

Also, what the hell is this PG-13 rated wannabe horror ****. I'm sorry, but it's not a real horror film if it doesn't have an R rating. I'm so sick of crap like The Ring and The Grudge. They're not scary. They are, to quote my friend Boston, "****ing retahded". Horror fans are pretty easy to please. We're willing to overlook a mediocre plot as long as some as there's some decents kills and enough blood and gore to make Jeffrey Dahmer cringe.

A PG-13 film that really ****ed me off was Alien Vs. Predator. I grew up watching both the Alien and Predator franchises. I love the first two Alien films and both Predator films. Whenever they're on TV, no matter how far into the film it, I'll sit down and watch them. Anyhoo, when I heard about the Alien Vs. Predator film, I was more excited than a retard chasing a flashlight. i was counting down the days till the release. We were promised a gorrified masterpiece. Then it turned out the film was rated PG-13. To say that I was let down would be like saying Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold overreacted. A huge ****ing understatement. Where the **** was our gorrified masterpiece? I was expecting to see something more bloody than a dumpster outside planned parenthood.

I never bothered to see it in theatres, and only recently watched it on HBO onDemond It was beyond atrocious. It made me want to riot. I loved those two franchises as a kid. Those franchises were like that older neighborhood kid who'd give you cool ****. To see them now being used as nothing more than hookers for their pimp 20th Century FOX. Whenever someone would ask why I refused to see it in theatres, "Would you want to see your friend get sodomized in the ass?"

I think it could have. The original draft of the script was set in New York and the cab driver was a comedy writer on the side. Also, Sandler can do some serious acting. Check out Punch-Drunk Love. He's great in that. I'm looking forward to Sandler's upcoming film, Empty City. Here's the plot description

A man (Sandler) who lost his family in the September 11 attack on New York City runs into his old college roommate (Don Cheadle). Rekindling the friendship is the one thing that appears able to help the man recover from his grief.

Movies I loved, in order:

Braveheart - yeah it isn't totally accurate but who cares? Mel Gibson's speech was so moving I wanted to grab a pitchfork and fight the English!

Pulp Fiction - Just. Plain. Awesome.

The Bourne Identity - I didn't think Matt Damon could be believable as a tough guy, but man he pulled it off bigtime.

Young Guns - "We're goin' to the spirit world, Chaves!"

Face Off - Great Nicholas Cage movie, good action and great plot.

A big gripe of a movie... Star Wars, Ep IV...
Why does Princess Leia start the movie with a British accent... but end it talking like an American? That annoyed the hell out of me! Even though Carrie Fisher was pretty hot back then, she still annoyed me.

Summary of American Gangster

The film is a biopic of Harlem heroin kingpin Frank Lucas. Lucas grew up in rural, segregated North Carolina. In the early 1970s, he became the biggest heroin dealer in Harlem with a smuggling scheme that imported the stuff out of Southeast Asia in the caskets of Vietnam soldiers. The film centers on narcotics lawman Richie Roberts' struggle to bring down Lucas, whose flamboyant style earned him the street name "Superfly." Lucas goes on to help Roberts hunt down dirty cops and overseas connections.

Snakes on a Train - Yes, that's TRAIN. A cheesy, gory, dumbass movie intended to cash in on the buzz of Snakes on a Plane. A Mexican woman's been cursed and is taking a train to LA to see a 'doctor' who can help her. The curse makes her spit up green jello and snakes. I believe this movie was a project for a flunked-out-of-acting-school group. But the ending is so terribly bad, it has to be seen. I'd say this film straddles the line of being so bad, it's funny. 3/10

The Brown Bunny - Ok, I'll admit this up front. The only reason I watched this movie was to see Chloe Sevigny (from Big Love) do her impersonation of Monica Lewinski. And that scene does deliver. But the rest of the movie? Couldn't get any worse. This movie is ssslllllooooooooowwwww. It's basically the main character driving his van across the country. He's driving, he's driving, he's driving, he meets a girl, he's driving, he's driving, he's driving, he meets an old and almost unrecognizable Cheryl Tiegs, he's driving, he's driving, he's driving, he's driving his motorcycle, he's driving, he's driving, he's driving, he's picking up a prostitute in Las Vegas to have lunch with her, he's driving, he's driving, he's driving, and on and on and on. No exaggeration, if you removed the scenes of him driving, the movie would only be half as long as it's 1 1/2 hours. Probably less. Praise the Lord for the fast-forward button. There's a semi-interesting twist at the end, but by that time I was just too numb to care. 2/10 (Chloe gets a 10/10)

Casino Royale - I enjoyed Craig's Bond more than I though I would. He's a much harsher Bond than what we've seen in a while, and I was nice to see that hard edge. On the downside, I thought the nearly hour-long poker playing arc in the middle of the film was a bit too long for an action movie, and it was also a bit short on the various exotic locations we're used to in Bond movies. 8/10

Invincible - Story of a Philadelphia Eagles fan who becomes an Eagle. Mildly interesting, but it seemed a bit short to me. Could have used an extra 15 minutes of character development, especially in the areas of him interacting with the Eagle veterans, and his love interest. Also, Wahlberg is a bit undersized to be completely believable as an NFL player. 5/10

Recent movies:

The Holiday: Fairly decent chick flick. I like a good romantic comedy, and this was good, not great. But Jack Black and Kate Winslet? That's a stretch.

Night at the Museum: Best movie of the holiday season. Ben Stiller's gotten a little stale for me lately, but this was his best in a while. And perfect for taking the kids. And I thought Micky Rooney was dead?

Pan's Labyrinth: Highly recommended if you're into movies that weave the story of a girl during the Spanish Revolution with an engaging fairy tale. I loved it. One of those movies that keeps popping into your head afterwards.

The Guardian: Story of rescue swimmers in the Coast Guard. I wasn't expecting much, and if you've seen Top Gun/Heartbreak Ridge/Officer and a Gentleman you've seen everything in this movie. That said, I found it enjoyable. Kutcher and Costner had a chemistry.

Little Miss Sunshine: Very depressing movie about a family of misfits who have no luck at all. This is supposed to be a comedy? The ending was funny, but not enough to overcome all the bad that preceded it. This movie needed more Alan Arkin. Best movie of the year? I don't think so.

Flags of our Fathers: Tells the interesting story behind the photo of the marines raising the flag at Iwo Jima. It's part war movie and part soap opera. The story was interesting, but the movie fell a little short in execution.

Borat: A slightly higher-class Jackass. A guy traveling across the country attempting to embarass unsuspecting non-actors. Tedious and boring.

Santa Clause III - Just didn't have the heart of the previous two.

Miami Vice: The most boring movie of the year.

Deck the Halls: The most irritating movie of the year.

The Fountain: The stupidest movie of the year. Saw it at the dollar movie theater, and almost asked for my money back. Don't believe the trailers for this movie. It's not about what they say it's about.

Nah. :) Never watched it when it was on.

Recent movies:

The Number 23: Just couldn't get into it. Wasn't what I expected, and couldn't buy the premise. I'm disappointed because I was hoping for more.

Epic Movie: Pretty much what I expected. Uneven comedy similar to the Scary Movie series. Some funny parts, and some boring stretches. The Harry Potter sequence was the highlight.

Hard Candy: Watched this movie because someone here recommended it, and it was definitely worth it. Great film. It may not be everyone's cup of tea though. The plot is a thirtysomething guy meets a 14 year old girl online, and they decide to meet. They go to his house, and well, let's just say it goes downhill from there. No nudity or graphic violence at all, but one of the most intense films you'll ever see (especially if you're a guy.)

Ghost Rider: Pretty good for that type of movie. Not quite summer blockbuster material, but Cage does a good job of playing the lead. Great special effects when he's the Ghost Rider, especially on the bike. I thought the love story detracted more than it added.

Music & Lyrics: If you like Hugh Grant, you'll love this movie. He's an aging pop star who used to be in an 80s band (think Wham!), and Drew Barrymore is his plant waterer. The chemistry between them is pretty good - almost as good as her and Sandler in Wedding Singer.

We are Marshall: Pretty good flick. Wasn't real familiar with the story, even though I live fairly close to the campus. McConaughey was a bit over the top, but Fox grounded the movie nicely.

Most Loathed movies;

Starship Troopers; they kept the name a few character names and nothing else. Each soldier being a walking/ jumping arsenal in the book to cannon fodder in the movie.

The Keep. Low rate movie when I first watched it; much lower rate once I read the book. Molasar/Rasalom was such a well developed, Evil antagonist, gets turned into a B movie bad guy.

The Bourne Identity/ Supremacy; good books but why is Jason Bourne then way he is, what happened to him to turn him into what he is? Degraded to "Evil Government" reasons not this causd that reasons.

Hunt For Red October. I know that the more technical aspects of the book had to be left out, but THEY DIDN'T ROLL THE ALPHA"
I was so waiting for that moment, such a disapointment.
