Just saw Zodiac and it's a great movie. Very engrossing, and the over 2-1/2 hours flies by. Plenty of very good performances.

And Chloe Sevigny is in it, and I couldn't help thinking about what I posted about back in post #237 in this thread. She will always be linked to that in my mind.

**** slight spoiler below *********

The movie made me interested in the subject, and I did some online reading, and it seems the person the movie pins the murders on isn't the open and shut case the movie leads you to believe.

Thanks for this...I was wanting to see the movie, but when I saw that it was 2 1/2 hours, I was a bit hesitant. Glad to hear the time flies...

I just watched "This is Spinal Tap"

...any comments about it from anyone else?
I thought it was funny. I did laugh.
but I didn't just love it...

It was funny. When it first came out, many of the folks didn't understand that it was satire and were scratching their heads when they left the theatre. (Man, that was a LONG time ago - back when I was at U of A, probably my freshman or sophomore year - Gallagher Theatre.)

And to Ard - thanks for the tip about Starship Troopers. I loved the book (Heinlien's unofficial biography) and kind of figured the movie was going to be crap. Thanks for confirming it :D

Post your Random Rants About Movies here...

I'll start...

Footloose.

I Hated this Film when I was 13, and after watching about 90% of it again last night for the first time in 2 Decades...

I Hate it even more.

What a Terrible Film.

Predictable Stereotypical Liberal TRIPE.

I can just Imagine Jobless Liberals (Forgive the Redundancy), getting pumped up the night before a Pro-Abortion Rally by getting High and Watching this Movie to Reinforce their already Ignorant Perception of the Christian Right.

Intead of Fistfighting, these Necks Challenge new Kids to a game of Tractor Chicken?...

And who in the Hell runs to the Factory to Dance their Frustrations out Against the Mean old Preacher and the Sheepish Town who Follows him?...

Sorry, but nobody was Buying the Bacon/Singer Lover Affair...

Had we been in the Pokeback Mountain Era, Bacon and the Late Penn would have hooked up instead, cause that's Exactly where that was going.

One more thing, Loggins, what in the Hell is "Clack"?...

Terrible Film...

Made Top Gun look like one of the Greatest Films ever...

And Top Gun was NOT.

I'm done.

Next.

I like the Adam Sandler movie Click. I have it DVR right now. It's funny when he pulls in the drive in the year 2018 or something and on the radio you hear the news guy say "and Micheal Jackson, the first man to clone himself is now sueing himself on molestation charges" :))
I like to watch older movies and then go to the special features and watch the making of the films. Especailly movies like Jaws.
All the Lethal Weapons and Die Hard movies still rock. I like all of the Back To The Future flicks. Tombstone is one of the greatest films ever.
This is supposed to be a "Rant" right? K good, one of the first "Horror" movies I watched was Sliver Bullet, that's one of those that you look back on now and laugh. Also along those lines would be the Friday The 13th movies. I don't think I've ever seen a truely great horror film.

I'm a sucker for feel-good movies. Hello. I'm James. And I'm a sap.
Anyway, why must some writers/producers/directors/whoever makes these decisions take a perfectly good movie and destroy it by going for the kill?
Example 1: Pay it Forward
Was it necessary to kill off the kid? Would it have destroyed the film to allow him to live long enough to see the results of his selfless act?
IMO, his death destroyed the movie for me. I left the theater feeling shattered. Not the feeling I was hoping for. Especially considering the fact the it had been a bad week and I went to watch it hoping for a pick-me-up.

Example 2: City of Angels.
An angel falls in love and gives up his "wings" in order to live, as a human, with the object of his affections. Nice premise, huh?
Yeah. Right up until the morning after their first night together when she gets hit by a log truck!

The visitation is now available?!?! I'm out the door now! Going to rent me a movie!

We bought it and watched it, it was just OK. Not any where as good as the book, the book really grabs you. We were stationed in Germany when it came out and a friend was going stateside and asked if we wanted them to bring anything back, well being the Perretti freak I am I told them they could only come back if they had this book with them otherwise.... ;) I would love to see what he does with This Present Darkness or Piercing the Darkness. I love his unabridged reading of the books on CD. His ability to voice the characters is fantastic.

Mal here's a bit of an outline:

"In Antioch, the former Father Travis Jordan lost his faith on God three years ago when his beloved wife was murdered and the criminals never found. Suddenly, miracles happen in the little town: the son of the newcomer and veterinary Morgan Elliot survives a car accident without a single scratch; Travis's dog Max revives after being buried; a paraplegic walks; a wounded woman and her father with brain tumor heal. In all the events, three men wearing black were seen, and then the unknown Brandon Nichols claims to be Jesus Christ. The local population worships Brandon, while Travis and Morgan feel that something is wrong and conduct an investigation, disclosing that evil has possessed the dwellers."

the funniest part of that whole movie when jenny dies and stupid buries the dumb whore in the back yard like a german shepherd.

however, i did read the script to his next film, Charlie Wilson's War, and it was pretty good. Aaron Sorkin wrote it and it's about how a Texas congressman (Hanks) starts arming the Afghanis to fight against the russians. Phillip Seymour Hoffman plays a cynical CIA agent. It should be a fun role for Hanks as he's playing a womanizing alcoholic

Heartbreak Kid with Ben Stiller. Damn funny movie, pretty hard core sex scene 1/3 of the way through so dont watch with the kiddies. The good part of this movie was that they didn't ruin it at the end with a sappy love conquers all ending, that and the gratuitous sex scene.

Southland Tales. Staring the Rock and Stifler, thought you couldn't go wrong with these two and a star studded supporting cast. Flop. Seemed to me a libs rendition of the end of the world citing Revelations throughout the flick. It even had J-Tims who narrated and also sang a little number in the middle of it.

My single most favorite part of that movie is when Hooper is getting ready to do the stunt in the jet car with Jan Michael-Vincent. Hooper asks what he should do if the stunt was not successful. Jan Michael-Vincent plainly but calmly says, "Well, you will have to stick your head between your legs and kiss your ass goodbye!!!"

I absolutely HATE it when a decent movie makes a sequal that has a kid in it.

Terminator II absolutely sucked and it was due to that stupid kid who wouldn't let Ahnold hurt anyone. What a dumbassed idea. Wasn't hurting people one of the great things about T-1?

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom! Another example. It was torture sitting through that dreadful movie. that kid annoyed me so damn much!

And what's up with tough-guys turning around and making a movie where they have to handle kids? Does anyone think that's entertaining? Kindergarten Cop? the Rock did one too, and so did Vin Diesel. Ugh!

This thread is about rants right?

Speaking of Indiana Jones, I was almost thorough disappointed with that movie. I was OK with the first 30 minutes or so. It's hard to watch a man older than I am, and I'm an old fart, get thrown around. I wince every time. I know it would have taken a few weeks to recover from the very first beating he took.

It was when he survived a nuclear blast in an empty refrigerator that i started to lose my patience.

The ending! Ugh! What a disappointment.

Grand Torino was good. Eastwood was an old codger that was not PC fed up with hippies and MTV generation that are severely lacking in respect for ones elders. Unforgiven was better, but Eastwood was younger and could kick more ass.

Terrible. Sorry libs, boring, funny at times but not funny in the way Stone wanted it. It was almost like watching a real life portrayal of Lil' Bush....yeah that canceled cartoon on Comedy Central. Had he given W some credit, and not made him look like a blundering idiot throughout the whole film, it would have been more entertaining.

Damn funny movie, lot of f-bombs, but then turns kinda chickflick. If you like "gutter" comedy where people say a bunch of crazy **** that you may think but no one comes out and says, you'll like this. Kinda shock humor.

This may have been mentioned in this thread before...but, I just watched the old Schwarzenegger movie "Commando" the other night. It was on USA or some such, so pretty diced up, but the scene with the yellow Porsche crash is just so ridiculously irritating.

Sulley crashes the car, it has blatant damage to an entire side of the vehicle, then after "Matrix", "lets Sulley go", Rae Dawn Chong states that they no longer have a car.

Matrix says, after pushing the trashed Porsche horizontal again, "now we do".

They drive away and there is no evidence of the crash whatsoever, when no less then a minute before the car was munged.

Horrible editing.

Something just bugs me about the Cannonball movies.
Cannonball, Gumball Rally, and both Cannonball Runs.

At the begining they make a big deal about each racer clocking out and the total time to get to the other end is used to determine the winner. At the end it just comes down to who gets there first even though one racer would have left before the other, the one who left earlier could clock in at the end first, but the racer who left later would have had a faster time. I know it is more dramatic to have a final sprint at the end, but why make a big deal out of clocking out and haveing the racers leave at intervals if you're just going to ignore it later? :wall:

Both Cannonball Runs were just vehicals (pun intended) to get as many entertainers in one movie as they could.

I need to look up who the female cop who ticketed the chicks was, and what other movies she was in.

OK I admit it I was wrong.
Only Gumball Rally and the first Cannonball Run have this problem.
Canonball has the cars getting to the finish line with quite a bit of time between cars, and Canonball Run 2 just has them telling someone that the others got there 4 hours earlier.

Cannonball is kind of wierd.

One guy having nightmares about something that never happened to him, but happened to his best friend.

I think it had more in common with Deathrace 2000 than with the other Cannonball movies. Then again, that may be because they had many of the same actor, cinemetographers, and crew on those two movies.

The Matrix was a bad movie.

I never could get past the premise. There is no way I believe you could get enough energy from a human body to generate the kind of power to run a huge Vertual Reality world for all those people. The power output would far exceed what human beings can generate.

There are far, far more efficient ways to get power.

It was a just a lame excuse to create a video game world that was as lame as that old Fox series VR5 (anyone remember that turkey?)

My husband liked the movie. I couldn't get past the stupidity of the premise. I never saw the sequels because I hated the first movie so much.

It was just plain dumb.

It was stupid beyond belief. It was just an excuse to look cool and and do badass moves that are NOT possible.

It was another brain dead Virtual Reality piece of crap that books sucked the life out of in the early 90s, and Fox got laughed at when they tried in in VR5. It was a 2 hour video game.

The premise of Plan 9 from Outer space, in which a chain reaction could explode molecules of sunlight was more intelligent than the Matrix. And when you have out dumbed Ed Wood, you REALLY have hit the dumb bottom.

I can think of a dozen Star Treks and 100 Doctor Who's that have 10 times more intelligent premises, they just didn't have great special effects.

That's all the Matrix had, and when the movie can't carry itself without the special effects (because it's just a dumb plot) it's not a good movie--Period!

I don't care how "cool" it looked, the premise was overused, recycled, DUMB!

Heck, there is this little Hammer Knock off film Peter Cushing made in the 60s. It's about scientists who try to engineer something that will eat bone cancer. Instead they engineer a creature that eats bone. Great acting, great locations, TERRIBLE, SILLY LOOKING SPECIAL EFFECTS. They definitely didn't have the budget for someone like Stan Winston to do the "silicates."

I'd rather watch bad special effects and good plots, over something as silly as the Matrix any day of the week.

Think that STUPID, OVERUSED "HoloSuite" on Star Trek: NG (I hated that show) DUMB!

The Foot Race @ the End of the Burt Reynolds Cannonball Run is Pointless, and stands as such...

But I LOVE the Movie and Lament that Movies like it and Hooper could NEVER be Made again in Today's Hollywood Environment.

Mother, Jugs and Speed comes to Mind also.

Anyway, Props to my Best Friend/Wife for giving me GREAT Father's Day.

1.) Slept in after a Date Night on Saturday Night.

2.) Ate the Deluxe Breakfast from Ronald's... Yeah, it's Wrong and Sick.

3.) Lounged with the Chitlin's and Watched Cannonball Run.

4.) Opened my Presents... A Photo Ablum... Yes, Ablum... Made a Big Poppa wanna Cry... :( Both my Babies with some Pics of my Parents with them (RIP*)... And some Kick Ass Tees...

5) Went shopping and in Fact purchased a New Grill... Been 10 years... At Least.

6.) Went shopping and in Fact purchased my Daughter's first Bike.

7.) Had Dinner in the People's (r)epublic of Boulder @ the Blake Street Pub... If you are ever Tortured with having to be in Boulder, EAT THERE...

8.) Returned Home for a Georgous Summer Evening and went to the Park with my Daughter... Boy Crashed on the way back from Boulder.

9.) Fell Asleep with the Wife to "Waiting"... An American Classic if you have ever Worked in that Industry... We watch it, Sooper Troopers, Office Space, Raising Arizona and number of other Flims... Yes Flims, Regularly...

10.) Realized that the Wife set a 2nd Alarm for me Knowing this Morning would be Difficult.

I Love you, Woman... Thanks for Everything!... That's on Everything! ;)

Stargate:

Ok.. they send in the probe machine before sending any people thru. I can understand that. But then it shows up on their map that it's light years away... ??

How exactly are they tracking it? If it's that far away, they would never receive a signal from it. Everyone would be dead and gone by the time the signal came in.

The second option is it transmitted something through the wormhole. But even then, the probe would have to know it's own location. After traveling through a wormhole, I'm not sure how it would be able to locate itself in relation to anything else.

All steven segal movies are the biggest load of crap, as well as jean claude van DAMNIWISHICOULD ACT are also reatreaded. Why do they let these people make films?

Would agree with you with the exception of "Under Siege" which was very good, not because of Seagal, but because of Tommy Lee Jones, Gary Busey, Colm Meany and the mighty Missouri herself - God, what a beautiful ship.
The score was also good and who can ever forget Erika Eleniak popping out of the cake!

Worth every minute of enduring Seagal.
