Pac got bottled up with the AIP and that "anachronistic dream" for sure. "Into the Wild" was like a gospel to him. For one birthday, I gave him an inexpensive edition of Thoreau's "Walking." You'd have thought I was the Prophet of the Most High.

lol...

Which, if you know Denali in December, likely became fire fodder.

The dream is far more alluring than the forty below reality of Alaska. The fear of too little food and fuel as a new winter lays it's hand on remote Alaska ends many budding "back to nature" career. One room cabins sans running water are charming in the summer, something less so come the long night. Especially if you have Bacon's hostages in tow.

Most wind up living on the fringe of civilized society, where one can saunter jauntily into town for repast, rendezvous and resupply.

And eventual reinsertion into the matrix.

Pac lives in a tent most of the year, inside Fairbanks city limits, using one of those rent-a-shower/laundromat facilities as his watercloset. He's also got one of those oneroomers without a toilet, too. I'll give him this, he's got the constitution for it. Me - I'm starting to tire of winter altogether. Even our ever shorter New England winters.

Now it's bonne nuit, bonne matinee.

That's what I heard. I got my current camera (Canon S3IS) from Newegg. They have some sweet deals, but I think I would rather go to a camera dealer for something like this.

The thing I like about the D40 over the Canon is the storage. D40 uses SD, versus CPF on the Canon. I have a TON of SD cars lying around.

If you need a sample to analyze, check out my posts, 2004-2006. You may be able to theorize from them.

Ah, "viral".

That's the word I saw used in rpf a few weeks back.

They were kicking around going "viral" on the Republican Party if The Paul wasn't nominated. And that doing so would somehow destroy the party.

It's been my experience that most paperwork simply goes away if you procrastinate long enough.

The important items will show up again. You'll easily recognize them. They usually say something like...

"Third And Final Notice"

I am curious, did you get a chance to listen to them prior to purchase? If so, how was the sound quality?

The rest are just wasted.

No, I'm going off of reviews I've read. I usually don't do that, but since the company has a unconditional 30 day return, I thought I'd give 'em a try.

I've been in the market for a new set of headphones for awhile now and I think I may have finally found one's I like (hopefully :) )

I'll be interested in your review. I've bought numerous headphones for my significant other, most of which she demurely declines and passes onto the progeny. I'd like to give her something a bit different and that might be worth adding to the list.

Don't worry, I plan on giving them a complete shakedown...

I almost pulled the trigger on getting a pair of the Bose in-ear triports. That was untill I tried them on and they slid right out of my ear!!

I figure these will be secure. Add the BT wireless, and I think it's a good combo :)

I'll keep ya informed ;)

As to the "iron dogs," they are inordinately popular in Alaska, and highmarking seems to be the adrenaline sport everyone gravitates to, sometimes with sad result.

What long winters and ennui hath wrought...

in Alaska:

The Arctic Man is one of the World's Toughest Downhill Ski races, and an exciting snowmobile race, all in one. The skier begins at a summit elevation of 5,800 feet and drops 1700 feet in less than two mile to the bottom of a narrow canyon where he meets up with his snowmobiling partner. The snowmobiler meets the skier, on the go, with a tow rope and pulls the skier 2 1/4 miles uphill at top speeds of up to 86 mph. The skier and the snowmobile then separate and the skier goes over the side of the second mountain and drops another 1200 feet to the finish line.
