I gorge myself on Smarties every Halloween until I can't stand 'em any more and can't even look at another one.

If you grill, and you can get those indoor ones, and you are doing veggies grab this glaze.

Take your jerk marinade, if you can't get Diana's I'll pm you an easy substitute, now take the jerk, slice your veggies to go on your grill (even cukes awesome, but cut them thick)
and just baste them with this. You will swear you have gone to heaven with veggies.

Jerk seasoning double with honey and baste away. If you are hard up use corn syrup. Honest people you will just die for your veggies this way. And they are not compromised by sweetness....the honey cuts the edge of the jerk.

The glaze is to die for on the grill with veggies.

Tracifish my daughter turned vegan. I like to make her meals not side dishes so I work at it with veggies. You will love this basting sauce.

I took leftover lentil stew, and mixed it in the blender with falafel mix and a bit of olive oil.... chilled it in the fridge for at least an hour, then shaped into patties on a cookie-sheet with olive oil flavored Pam...decorated with green pepper...and now it is in the oven at 350 for 30 minutes.

Agreed, and I am fond of my natural scent. But I get that hempseed bread from the refrigerator section. 2 slices is like a meal.

On a similar note, you ought to try Austrian pumpkinseed oil ("kerbiskernol") mixed with Bragg's apple cider vinegar as a salad dressing some time.

When your pumpkin pie tastes too sweet, it is possible to cut that sweetness by enjoying a semi-sweet or non-sugared cup of coffee with the sliver of pie.

Advice on different combinations? Or advice on how to get her back into it?

My favorite is carrots, celery, red bell peppers and apples...sometimes I add a garlic clove...I have also done, carrots apples and cabbage. That is pretty good.

Pears sound yummy!

I do softer veggies in the blender, like fresh parsley...with apple juice instead of water....but one can use the juice one has already made instead of apple juice. Alot of people like carrot, apple juice.

Another thing is I like to make smoothies....especially fresh mango with grated ginger and a little honey.

Or, instead of honey, heat some raisins in water until they're plump and stick them in the blender before adding anything else. I'd like to try the same thing with dates, but haven't yet.

If the mango smoothie comes out thick, one can eat it as custard. It is absolutely delicious!

p.s. alot of ginger makes the stomach feel cool. It's hard to explain, but it's a good feeling.

In the morning, it is good to have things like oat-bran, instant oatmeal (like maple/brown sugar...it not the healthiest...but...) and flax seed ground in a coffee grinder...plus raisins. When mixed all together with hot water...it is tasty and filling. It helped me when I had no portion control...I could eat alot of it and not feel guilty.

I hope this helps.

If you have any other questions, I'm loving to help with this...because it has been helping me so much!

What a great thread.

All time favorite (and I thank the good Lord for having a fast metabolism so what I love to eat doesn't stick to my ribs or you'd need a Caterpillar tractor version of a gurney to take me to the hospital)
is a bacon and cheese stuffed hamburger.

My favorite is to stuff the burger with a half and half combo of mozzarella and an old blue or a sharp cheddar; the mozzarella doesn't lessen the bite of either of those two cheeses but makes it creamy. Mince the bacon. Squish it all into the middle of the burger then broil.

I know "squish" doesn't cut it in the culinary world, but thats what you do.

And here's the kicker. :dance:Nothing but jalapeno jelly as a glaze.

Add bun and chow down.

Oh great. Now I'm starving.

tracifish did you know that there is a HUGE recall of pistachio nuts?

Here's part of the article and here's the link. Until they get this sorted out I would avoid nuts or any food item that has nuts in them.

FDA eyes NY nut plant in pistachio recall probe
By GARANCE BURKE and FRANK ELTMAN – 2 hours ago

COMMACK, N.Y. (AP) — The investigation into a nationwide salmonella scare over pistachio nuts spread Thursday from a California nut processor to its sister plant in New York, where inspectors last month found cockroaches and rodent droppings.

The Food and Drug Administration said it was investigating Commack-based Setton International Foods Inc., which shares key staff and packages food with a plant in central California that earlier this week recalled 2 million pounds of nuts over fears of possible salmonella contamination.

The West Coast plant, Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella Inc., is the nation's second-largest pistachio processor. A spokesman for both companies said the California plant supplies all pistachios used in the Long Island processing facility, which makes chocolate- and yogurt-covered nuts and dried fruit.

Last month, New York agricultural authorities discovered nearly two dozen dead cockroaches, rodent droppings and one live cockroach on an ingredient rolling rack inside the Commack plant. It failed its state health inspection.

It failed its state health inspection.

tracifish did you know that there is a HUGE recall of pistachio nuts?

Here's part of the article and here's the link. Until they get this sorted out I would avoid nuts or any food item that has nuts in them.

Okay. For now, I will not buy pistachios. Though sometimes, I wish I didn't know some things...the same way people don't want to know how hot-dogs are made. salmonella is pretty serious....but it's the other stuff I don't want to think about.

I used to have pet rats, though. They are the sweetest pets ever, but I still don't want to eat rat turds.

Alot of things about food can really creep me out.

YOu ever crack open a pistachio and find that it's partly eaten, and then you also find the dried up, and cooked worm that ate it?

They are quite bitter.. You now know what that odd pistachio's bitter taste is from.
