Okay guys, I don't know how many of us around here are gamers but I wanted to start a thread JUST for us. I'm going to try and bump it everyday if I can. :)

So basically what I'd like everyone to do is tell us:
1) What type of games you play (video, computer, multiplayer onlines, freeform, tabletop, CCG, board games, miniatures, etc....)?

2) How long have you been a gamer?

3) Do you do conventions?

4) Do you belong to any gaming forums or message groups (ex. RPG.NET, RPPR's blog, yahoo groups)

And any other information/experiences/stories. This thread welcomes EVERYONE, even if you aren't a gamer. Please feel free to ask questions. :)

I will be posting convention info when I get (for Origins and Gencon), as well as any pictures I obtain from conventions. Everyone feel free to share your gaming news, stories, anything gaming related!

I'll post a little later.

1. FPS, Guitar Hero, and Racing games.

2. Been a gamer since 1994, when NASCAR Racing first came out for the PC. (I was 6 years old!)

3. Never been to a convention, but want to do Digital Overload up in Rhode Island someday.

4. Ctrl+Alt+Del forums, and my old runescape clan forum.

I think my funniest gaming story was a sunday or two ago, when three buddies of mine came over to play Halo 3, and this one guy finished second to me every single game. When he looked back from the door, the look on his face was priceless, along the lines of "I can't believe I lost to this little Bi#$% every single time!

GREAT START :) Thanks for being first. Mine takes so long to type up I'm waiting until I get home from work (haven't even left yet..teehee..)

Is Ctrl+Alt+Del a web comic? Or a computer gaming site? The site sounds familiar, but I can't place where I've heard it.

So basically what I'd like everyone to do is tell us:
1) What type of games you play (video, computer, multiplayer onlines, freeform, tabletop, CCG, board games, miniatures, etc....)?

On the computer I mostly play computer RPG's, not those fake Japanese console ones nor MMORPG's, like Baldur's Gate, Knights of the Old Republic, Neverwinter Nights, or Vampire The Masquerade. On my trusty PS2 I mostly play sports or racing games. Once in a while a game like Guitar Hero gets my interest but loses it quickly.

2) How long have you been a gamer?
Since I got an Atari 2600 as a kid.

3) Do you do conventions?

No but it would be fun.

4) Do you belong to any gaming forums or message groups (ex. RPG.NET, RPPR's blog, yahoo groups)

My other forum, CBR, that I post at a lot (13,000 posts now) has a sub forum devoted to games but I don't go in there much as its all Japanese RPG this and Japanese RPG that. I'm not much a fan of that genre, although I did like Final Fantasy VII.

Currently my only gaming systems are my computer and my Playstation II. I've been holding out on getting one of the new systems til big price drops as there just hasn't been a game out there that makes me have to have one and my PS2 brings me plenty of fun for now. I'm going to be sorely tempted though to buy a 360 when Mass Effect comes out since Bioware is responsible for my favorite game of all time, Baldurs Gate II, and this is supposed to be similar only in space.

1) What type of games you play (video, computer, multiplayer onlines, freeform, tabletop, CCG, board games, miniatures, etc....)?

Video games mostly now. I'm sad to say that at 30 years old I am a Pokemon Fanatic. I blame my younger brothers for getting me addicted.

Past that, I play a lot of RTS games, RPG's, and the occasional starship combat game of all kinds. My Nintendo DS makes all my trips with me, and I typically take with me a few of the disks for my laptop.

I used to play CCG's, but with my new job, and the lack of a group in the area I currently am located at, I don't. I used to play mostly AEG games, such as 7th Sea, Warlord, L5R, etc.

2) How long have you been a gamer?

Video gamer? Since the Atari 2600. I used to play a lot in the Video Arcades, and then at home. My family wasn't that well off so I've kinda skipped most of the home console systems and went for the cheaper portable ones.

CCG'er, since college. I got in with Magic, graduated to Decipher's Star Trek: TNG CCG, and Star Wars, then moved over to AEG. I've played a lot of "failed" CCG's like MagiNation, Highlander, etc. I even played WWE: Raw Deal for a while, but I doubt I'd recognize the game now.

3) Do you do conventions?

Used to in Grad School. They were a nice break from the grind. I've been to Gencon twice from the Milwaukee days, twice in Indianapolis, and I've been to 3-4 Origins. I used to try to make at least one of the Origins or Gencon scenes a year. I don't do that anymore simply because I'm not 13 hours away from Indy, and 15 from Columbus. I might try some of the regional cons in the South, like MidSouthCon.

4) Do you belong to any gaming forums or message groups (ex. RPG.NET, RPPR's blog, yahoo groups)

I still post on Warlord CCG's main site, The Temple Of Lore. Mostly because the site supports an Anything Forum that was a good stepping stone to Hannity's forum for Political discussion, and the Other Games Forum there is where I get my Pokemon Addiction under control. I frequent a lot of online Comics that are geared to gamers. I religiously read Penny Arcade, 8bit Theater, and The Order of the Stick.

1) What type of games you play (video, computer, multiplayer onlines, freeform, tabletop, CCG, board games, miniatures, etc....)? Little bit of everything, mmorpg and rpg's being my favorite. I played EQ since the second day it came out, still occasionally log in, WoW, EQ2, and DAoC.. and I love anything Blizzard puts out.. (Diablo, Starcraft, Warcraft)
I've also had just about every console that has came out since I was born..

2) How long have you been a gamer?

Since the first time I touched the Atari controller in the 80's..

3) Do you do conventions?

I have in the past.

Fake Japanese Console? ::raises eyebrow:: I'm actually a HUGE fan of the Final Fantasy series, and XenoSaga. ::shrugs:: but to each their own. I know a lot of guys that played Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights in college. I actaully hated the VtM PC game, but that's because I actually play the tabletop RPG.

Since I got an Atari 2600 as a kid.

Ah. My first system was a Super Nintendo.

No but it would be fun.
teehee they are. You'd probably be more at home at a video game con, or a PC heavy con. To my knowledge Gencon and Origins are not so much that type of con thought here IS some PC and console gaming.

I'm not much a fan of that genre, although I did like Final Fantasy VII.
That was my least favorite FF game, but I did LOVE the movie "Advent Children".

Currently my only gaming systems are my computer and my Playstation II.
I have a PS 2 as well I have no desire to spend $700.00 on a PS 3, even if I had the money.

What is the price of a X-Box 360 right now anyway?

I was in an all-girl Quake clan for quite awhile, and I was pretty decent.. and back in the day we would host big time LAN-Parties, atleast 20 people, playing the entire weekend, with everyone averaging maybe 2 hrs of sleep for the entire weekend...

Also spent many of sleepless nights playing Magic or AD&D..

Ah...those were the days..

Yeah, I personally have kinda checked out of the main Final Fantasy games. I own the remakes of 1-6 on the DS and GBA, and play them when I get nostalgic. I loved FF: Tactics.

I'll probably pick up FF: Revant Wings on the DS and FF: Tactics Advanced 2.

BTW: What kind of game is the "America's Army". I might be interested. If I manage to beat Zelda: Phantom Hourglass soon, and the Pokemon Online league I've got going doesn't eat up too much time.

I used to play CCG's, but with my new job, and the lack of a group in the area I currently am located at, I don't. I used to play mostly AEG games, such as 7th Sea, Warlord, L5R, etc.
I never really got into CCGs. I did Magic the Gathering for a while in college (when the Urza's Saga set came out), but that is more my boyfriend's thing. He plays the Star Trek CCG at tournament level. He was a semi finalist in the World Championships this year. :) teehee.

I've played 7th Seas before, back in college. I'm actually currently in a national "living campaign" of L5R called Heroes of Rokugan (formerly Living Rokugan).

Video gamer? Since the Atari 2600. I used to play a lot in the Video Arcades, and then at home. My family wasn't that well off so I've kinda skipped most of the home console systems and went for the cheaper portable ones.
My bf LOVED his playstation portable.

CCG'er, since college. I got in with Magic, graduated to Decipher's Star Trek: TNG CCG, and Star Wars, then moved over to AEG.
I saw the demo of the new Star Wars CCG at Origins a few years ago...::gags::

Origins is my home state Convention so of COURSE I go. :) I"m gogin to try to make GenCon Indy this year, but it's a little pricey. So I'll have to see. Regional cons like MEPA can be fun, but they are generally smaller, and in my expereince not as well organized. But the price is usually VERY affordable.

I frequent a lot of online Comics that are geared to gamers. I religiously read Penny Arcade, 8bit Theater, and The Order of the Stick.

I love the animated 8-bit theatres. My boyfreind loves Full Frontal Nerdity, he actually has a collection in book form signed by the author. I"m not so much for the webcomics. I DO LOVE the gaming humor group RPPR (roleplaying public radio) there skits are HILAIROUS.

Tactics was ADORABLE, but the translation was HIDEOUS in some places. FF6 and FF4 were my first and by far two of my favorites, even though they're only bit animation.

I'm also a big fan of FF10, it was so beautiful. My first summoning of Shiva I was actually BREATHLESS.

Heh. My brother is a Pokemon Fanatic too, and his stepchild is practically a Poketot. I can claim I'm playing it so I have something in common with my brother and nephew, but the truth is... I just love Pokemon. High quality entertainment for the handheld systems.

EDIT To Add: I typically don't go to Pokemon events. I'm a bit too embarrassed at being the only 30 year old in the room with a DS out and playing.

I have an UD Mage (70) Human Lock (63) and several Hunters, both Blood Elf and Tauren. Just made a Draenei Shammy. I love WoW. I must admit I don't play quite as much as I used to.

Diablo II got me hooked on Blizz games. That and the whole Warcraft/Starcraft series.

I'm a genre whore with pretty much everything except conventional racing games (though I do love me some Burnout). My most recent favorites have been WoW, Day of Defeat: Source, CS 1.6, BF2, World in Conflict (awesome RTS), C&C 3, and Warcraft 3. I think the most fun I have playing video games is when I get a hold of a solid RPG. I loved FF's VII, VIII, X, X-2, and XII - can't wait for XIII. Sucks that I don't have any consoles right now, just a PC. I plan on grabbing a PS3 once the new year comes around and buying all the FF's and RE's, and just have no life for about a month.

4) Before I quit WoW and Anarchy Online I spent tons of time on my realm's forums

Probably my greatest gaming moment was when I got my Thunderfury in WoW, months and months of working on one item finally paid off.

1) What type of games you play (video, computer, multiplayer onlines, freeform, tabletop, CCG, board games, miniatures, etc....)?

2) How long have you been a gamer?

Not only do I play pretty much everything - I opened up a game store in Massachusetts called Battleground Games & Hobbies in 2002. We're coming up on our 5 year anniversary next month! The website is www.battlegroundgames.com if you want to check out pics of the store.

I've been into gaming my whole life. Started playing D&D when I was 9 - and I'm still playing now at 35. Miniature games I got into a little bit later, but I've played pretty much all the big names (Warhammer 40k & Fantasy, Warmachine, Confrontation, Flames of War, Mordheim). I've played all of the "clicky-based" games like HeroClix, Mage Knight, Mechwarrior, HorroClix and the new HaloClix game.

Collectible Card games, while I know how to play most of them, are not really my thing. However, they are incredibly popular at the store. We just had one of our best Magic: The Gathering Release Tournaments ever; the newest set called "Lorwyn" just released this past Friday.

Video games are also a hobby of mine. I've played World of Warcraft for quite a while now (but I'm getting pretty sick of it). Looking forward to the release of Starcraft II comiing out soon.

3) Do you do conventions?

I have been to Gen Con nine times. Once in 1995, and every year since 2000. I also go to the GAMA trade show in Vegas every year (a gaming retailer's convention).

4) Do you belong to any gaming forums or message groups (ex. RPG.NET, RPPR's blog, yahoo groups)

I'm a frequent poster on many different game sites (Wizards.com, ENWorld.org, GIN Forums, etc.).

Now mostly x-box with my son and such.
Evercrack about took me out of MMOR's as I was spending way too much time on the computer. Stopped playing MMOR's competely.
I guess since I got back with the Vol Fire Department I just don't have much time for games anymore.
Love Axis and Allies and before it went bust Mech Warrior by wizkidgames was alot of fun

2 - On and off for years. Been a casual hobby since I first got a BBC model B computer in the 1980s. These days its entirely PC games though.

3 - No ******* way! :)

So basically what I'd like everyone to do is tell us:
1) What type of games you play (video, computer, multiplayer onlines, freeform, tabletop, CCG, board games, miniatures, etc....)?Generally I play sports related games only, racing games being my main focus. PC formatted games for the most part, but occasionally I play GameCube with my son.

2) How long have you been a gamer?Ever since the first sprint car game was released by RatBag in around 2000.

[QUOTE=angelicmadrigal;14195981]3) Do you do conventions?Never been to a gamer convention.

PC, Xbox360, tabletop, CCG, board games, wargames, RPGs, miniatures, paintball. Pretty much have tried them all. Forgot to mention Arcade games. I used to be a master at Street Fighter 2 and its immediate incarnations.

2) How long have you been a gamer?

Wow, 25+ years. Started with the old Atari 2600, hehe.

3) Do you do conventions?

Sometimes. Used to go to U-Conn at the University of Michigan every November back in the early 90's. Now in California I go to Strategicon in LA. It's held 3 times a year. I also went to Comic Con for the first time this year. I was planning on going to GenCon Anaheim this year but they discontinued it dammit. Went to an Everquest Fan Faire once. What a waste of time that was.

4) Do you belong to any gaming forums or message groups (ex. RPG.NET, RPPR's blog, yahoo groups)

A couple mailing lists and a couple yahoo gaming groups.

Primarily miniatures, Warhammer 40K since 1988. Role playing, D&D since early '80s. Computer games, Civilization, started with pong and Intellivision late '70s. Used to be into CCGs but got out of it, the first magic cards I bought were beta edition.

Been to a few convensions over the years. Marscon, Gamesday and a couple of others.

The first couple of forums I was on were gaming related. (Where do you think I got my user name from.) Portent and its resurection as Warseer.

1) What type of games you play?
A little of everything, but mostly turn-based, Japanese-style RPGs. And shoot-em-ups (see: Gradius, R-Type, Thunder Force). And games that are quirky (see: Katamari Damacy, anything made by Treasure). And games involving Michael Jackson (see: Moonwalker)

2) How long have you been a gamer?
Since age 4 when I got a Nintendo and Super Mario Bros.

3) Do you do conventions?
No. I'm not quite that nerdy.

4) Do you belong to any gaming forums or message groups (ex. RPG.NET, RPPR's blog, yahoo groups)
No, but I visit Gamespot.com daily, for their reviews.

And any other information/experiences/stories.

Among the systems I own are: Atari 7800, Intellivision, Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Wii, Sega Genesis, Sega Saturn, Sega Dreamcast, 3do, Xbox 360, Game Boy (original), Game Boy Pocket, Game Boy Color, Nintendo DS, Tiger Game.com, Playstation 2, and Neo Geo Pocket Color.

Also, I'm terrible at video games and use cheat codes frequently.

Now I play MMORPG/and other computer games. I have played just aout every type of game imaginable.

2) How long have you been a gamer?
33 years

3) Do you do conventions?
Went to one and was scared silly. So many people who shouldn't be gaming.

I play EvE online here are some videos if you never heard of it. http://myeve.eve-online.com/download/videos/ this game has everything. You can engage in market activites, politics, too combat. Just about everything in the game including all ships are player made. Here is a link too a recruiting site even though I dont belong too that corporation or aliance it has all the info. http://forums.penny-arcade.com/showthread.php?t=33310 if anyone wants too join my corp. Which is called Fine Goods for Fine Gentlement, the website is still a work in progress http://finegents.com/ . My ingame name is Amaro Ray, you can sign up for the free 15 day trial and convo me in game. We are not big like those people in the link. But our small corp has control of one of the richest systems in the game. Our enemies in that system are French, so if you ever wanted too sock it too a actual French person you can in this game. They have around 500 people in there alliance ( which is kind of like a group of corporations.) We have around 10 active people in our corp currently and we have a pretty good kill ratio against them. Not bad since we are outnumbered almost 100 to 1. http://finegents.com/kb/?a=cc_detail&ctr_id=2
So you say your not into combat, or politics like in the previous links. Well if economics is your thing, here is a link too the dev blogs concerning the economy of the game, http://myeve.eve-online.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&bid=505, CCP the makers of the game, actually hired on a full time University grad economist too handle all the charts, graphs, and all that economy talk. One of our corp members even runs an IPO. More details on the IPO only if you join the corp though ;)

So basically what I'd like everyone to do is tell us:
1) What type of games you play (video, computer, multiplayer onlines, freeform, tabletop, CCG, board games, miniatures, etc....)?

Almost exclusively video games, on my Xbox. I suppose that I may go to the 360, but pretty much because there aren't many ways to get Xboxes repaired, or buy new ones. I'm not dedicated enough to need all the bells and whistles...

As for games, I usually play FPS, although I like different things. Some of my all-time faves are/were Psychonauts, Prince of Persia (all three), The Suffering, Enter the Matrix, XIII, Voodoo Vince, and Max Payne.

2) How long have you been a gamer?

I started playing occasionally with my son, about 10 years ago. I started playing regularly about 4 years ago, when my job took me away from home for extended periods of time, and I didn't have anything else to do.

3) Do you do conventions?

No.

4) Do you belong to any gaming forums or message groups (ex. RPG.NET, RPPR's blog, yahoo groups)

No, since most of what I like is older, not really cutting edge, or apparently all that interesting to 'hard-core' gamers. I play because it's fun, and I'm bored. It seems like most of the forums I've browsed are full of players who are really serious about it, and I don't feel like getting flamed by people thirty years younger... :)

And any other information/experiences/stories. This thread welcomes EVERYONE, even if you aren't a gamer. Please feel free to ask questions. :)

let's see....

1. mostly now computer games...sometimes ps2. I love some of the old games though. expecially super nintendo. I dont know...I like the new nintendo too...but something about that system. It just had a lot of awsome games. We are corny...we play a lot of board games too. (My children's favorite is Nick toons Scene it lol). But we play yahtzee, monopoly, trivial pursuit, scrabble, etc..

2. Hmm....A long time. I used to Mud faithfully. Darling hubby still does. I just do not have time to lock myself into that type of game anymore. I need to be able to play like on tv, where i can stop and save and come back to it. Too busy with the kids. Although, now I have to fight my oldest for use of the computer. He and his dad have both been playing some fighting game online. And he plays pokemon on line all the time.

3. I have went to conventions. LOL. I went to RIT to visit some friends when I was in college...for this convention that ws introducing this great new game....Magic the Gathering. Terrible. I do play btw.

4. yes. Just leaving that one there.

I don't consider myself a gamer... but I've got friends and family who've never looked at a video game and would consider the dozens of games I've played as, well, gaming. I suppose I'm a 'part-time, amateur' gamer!

My first gaming experience was Myst. I loaded it on my computer and played it straight through without sleeping. I suppose that's a sign of a true gamer... I don't know.

Most of my games have been PC. I just bought a PS2 this year... and have toyed around with a few games... some racing, and one FSP called Turok: Evolution, that I'm close to finishing.

My favorite games have been city building and strategy. Children of the Nile was one of my favorites, along with several of the Roman city building genre. Unfortunately, this type of game seems to have dead-ended to a large extent with the focus on consoles in recent years.

I just finished a really bad adventure called NiRiBu... one of those lame walker games with horrible dialogue and lousy puzzles. I don't know why I even bother with those... perhaps because they're cheap and can be finished in a day or two. I just installed a new adventure called Dreamfall... The Longest Journey. It's been out for a year or two so isn't brand new... but has added a new dimension to the walk and explore action/adventure... incorporating realistic 3-D and some really good acting and graphics.

I don't think anyone's ever invented the perfect game for me. I'd love to play a complete total immersion city builder, with realistic graphics that would allow you to explore the city real-time. CoTN came close... but I'd like better detail and more complexity.

Great idea for a thread, btw!

Grim Fandango ranks 7th on their chart. It's almost ten years old. Still worth playing such an old game? Will those old games even play on the newer systems?

'Battlefield 2' online is the best game ever made if you like modern day combat. You can fly jets off of air-craft carriers, drive LAV's, Jeeps, Choppers, gun boats ect...order artillery strikes and gun them all too with your squad. Rocket launchers, sniper rifles, c4 explosives, and every weapon you can think of. It's basically the USA against Red China and The Middle East alliance. You can be the enemy too, for all you pinko commies out there. ;)The game is absolutely unbelievable, and once you play it you will understand.

Also, 'Silent Hunter 3' is a kool game also if you want the best Submarine simulation game. Your basically Germany against the Allies in World War 2. They just came out with Silent hunter 4 where you fight against Japan as America and Britain I believe, but supposedly the 3rd one is the best, and the 4th got poor reviews for gliches and bugs. You have to like this kind of game, but it is really realistic and the graphics, like with Battlefield 2 are unbelievable.

Remember, you want Battlefield 2 (not 2142 the new garbage, or the first one) for the PC, not the XBOX. The XBOX version is a totally different game. You can't operate the vehicles. It's the Online play against humans that makes this game so great. ~BH

Okay, here's my responses, I promised it'd be a long long one.

1) What type of games you play (video, computer, multiplayer onlines, freeform, tabletop, CCG, board games, miniatures, etc....)?

I'm what most people would probably considered a failry hardcore gamer. I do mostly table top, video/PC, LARP, some CCG, Multiplayer online, and my first love creative writing freeform. I have tried minis and other things at conventions but these are what I do mostly. I'll list some of my favorites.

Video Games: Final Fantasy IV, Final Fantasy VI, Final Fantasy X, Xenosaga I, Xenosaga II, and Xenosaga III

Multiplayer Online: World of Warcraft

Table-top RPG: Fading Suns, Shadowrun, Vampire the Masquerade, Changeling the Dreaming

Computer: Heroes of Might and Maic IV, Ceaser 3

Freeform Genres: Cyberpunk, Space Opera, Gothic Horror

I play lots of other things too. I'm currently involved in a national campaign of L5R, that has a tabletop and LARP component.

2) How long have you been a gamer?
Since I was 12.

3) Do you do conventions?

Table top strategy games
Very few miniatures
Board games
Pencil and paper RPG's (currently in a Savage Worlds - Rippers campaign)

I have an UD Mage (70) Human Lock (63) and several Hunters, both Blood Elf and Tauren. Just made a Draenei Shammy. I love WoW. I must admit I don't play quite as much as I used to.

Diablo II got me hooked on Blizz games. That and the whole Warcraft/Starcraft series.

70 Blood Elf Priest (Holy/Disc)
70 Undead Warlock (Demonology)
66 Orc Rogue (Combat)
41 Tauren Druid (Feral)

Pencil and paper RPG's (currently in a Savage Worlds - Rippers campaign)

I'm actually famliar with the mechanics from Savage Worlds. There's a fantasy setting using their rules called Shaintar, written by the guy that used to be the events co-ordinator for Origins. I gamed with him for about 2 months, and that's how I learned it's generally a bad idea to tell game designers you don't like something about their game, they can be a little hyper sensitive about it. Though I will say for people who aren't bothered by very black and white interpretations of morality it's a pretty neat setting and you should check it out. :)

So what is the Rippers campaign setting? I'm guessing cyberpunk....but I'm thinking that isnt' quite it.

Any strategy games in particular you like best? Are you more comfortable with real-time or turn based? Or are we talking strategy games like Chess and Go?

Turn based. Sid Mier's Civilization series and his Alpha Centauri. Start at the beginning of history and build your civilization up. The choices you make early on shape things that come later.

I actually remeber guys PLAYING Alpha Centauri. Though most of the guys I gamed with preferered StarCraft. I've never played Civilization but my boyfriend always jokes that it's a time sink, and you lose track of time EASILY. I used to play Heroes of Might and Magic 3 and 4. That's how I learned the hard way that unicorns are NOT nice.

Lately my wife and I have been playing City of Heroes.

I never really got in to City of Heroes. Something about me not liking the whole superheroes thing, I think. Though the character creation process is fun.

What are they untying exactly? Or should I be afraid to ask?

Goodlife. According to Iggy, she is into that kind of thing. Why do you think she keeps him locked in the basement?

It was a joke....unite/untie........oh, never mind, it loses something when you have to explain it.

I wasted a lot of my life playing Heroes of Might and Magic. The last one that came out sucked, though.

Starcraft was fun, but the A.I. cheats. It is hard to program a game to be smarter, which is why most, like starcraft, give the enemy more resources and better speed.

I started playing D&D when I was eight, I have played about everything made by White Wolf (the new world of darkness rules), Rifts/Paladium, Shadowrun, hell i forget some of them. I also enjoy video games like guild wars, Neverwinter Nights, the Final Fantasy series and about any other fantasy rpg type I can find.

You should go to the website I mentioned for abandoned DOS games. The content there will blow your mind. Some good stuff. Download the DOSBOX and follow the directions.

When I started playing on the computer (commodore 64), back then I had to rewrite the system config files to run each game.

I'd have to disagree on your take on nWoD. I can't stand it.

I've played all sorts of others games like: ELFS, SpellSlinger, Paranoia, and Kobolds Ate My Baby.

Hey, has anyone actually PLAYED Burning Wheel? I'm really intersted in it, but I've never really heard any feedback from it.

Yep. Thought it was neat, though I liked Rifts better. I really like the D20 system now for Futuristic games. I do still sorta prefer medieval fantasy tho.

Now I am playing Oblivion on the XBOX 360. The world is so open and wide you can (and have) roam the country doing stuff for weeks or months and never actually start the main quest line.

I've been thinking about loading up my saved game. One of the best games I've ever played. I played Oblivion for close to 100 hours before I got burnt out and I never started the main quest. I'm ready though, I powergamed my character and he has max stats(100's in everything except Personality) and a 100% chameleon suit!

Let's see...
1. Yes (pretty much all of those).
2. Since I was 8 (I wrote my own choose-your-own-adventure computer game).
3. Sometimes. I went to the last TSR run Gencon.
4. Yes (currently on playstation3's Warhawk forum).

Indeed! But most of the DMs I ran with had to stop using Forgotten Realms though... Too easy for me to abuse certain items and class combinations. It's never a good sign when I bring the Munchkin's Guide to Power Gaming with me in addition to the regular source books. :)) More uses for halflings than I had ever imagined.

Yeah, it does break the game somewhat bad going everyplace with a 100% chameleon suit. The world stops interacting with you, basically. If I recall, I've got 4 items, with 25% or more each. One is the Ring of Khajiiti(35% Chameleon).

My character is around 25th to 30th level and I've stopped increasing it because the loot doesn't really get any better, but the monsters do get tougher if you keep gaining levels. When I've not been doing the class quests or city side quests, I've been hitting several dungeons over and over, just for the boss chests.

If you've never seen this site, it's a good one for everything Oblivion.

OR, you can stuff them full of seditives or poisons and feed them to the biggest nasties you can find. OR you can put them on the end of a ten foot pole and probe for traps. I'm a strict console gamer, not a big PC gamer fan as I always seem to have computer glitches show up. The PC game ends up freezing or the gaming board messes up I have to replace it. I've never had any problems with consoles so I stick with them.

I first started playing videogames back in 1984/1985 with the Colecovision. I was introduced to videogames by my aunt who at the time owned an Atari. When we visited she'd let me and my sister play with the system.

My Colecovision broke and my parents bought me a new Nintendo. I've owned all of their consoles except the Virtual Boy and the current Gameboy's and Nintendo DS systems. I'm not into portable gaming that much. I will be getting a Nintendo Wii this Christmas.

Consoles I've owned...

1. Colecovision
2. Nintendo Entertainment System
3. Super Nintendo Entertainment System
4. Nintendo 64
5. Gameboy
6. Sega Dreamcast
7. Nintendo Gamecube
8. Sony Playstation 2
9. Microsoft X-Box
10. Microsoft X-Box 360

I enjoy

-race games
-platform,
-1st person shooters
-3rd person action adventure games
-RPG's
-Fighting
-Sports

I currently own only an X-Box 360. Usually I keep my consoles for a few years and when the successor comes out trade in the old and use that money for the new one. Currently for the X-Box 360 I'm playing one of the greatest RPG's imo "Elder Scrolls IV OBLIVION." I recently purchased the game of the year edtion which has the two expansion packs "The Shivering Isles" and "Knights of the Nine."

I had the original version which did not have the two expansion packs. The two expansion packs were available recently on X-Box Live as downloadable content. I figured I'd just wait until these two expansion packs game in the game of the year edtion. So I put my original version up on Ebay and then bought the game of the year edition.

I am also playing Forza Motorsport 2. Since I have X-Box Live Gold edition I can play against others in my own customed tuned and painted cars. So yep that makes me a online multiplayer as well. I belong to the Forza Motorsport 2 forum on the .net forums.

No I do not attend conventions or enter any gaming tournaments. Those professional gamers can make big bucks but essentially you have to devote your life and many hours to playing/practicing to be top notch. Some of these gamers spend 14+ hours practing, sorry I don't have the patience for that.

I'm doing pretty well on Forza Motorsport 2. Out of 100 races I've entered online I've gotten 1st place 63 times 2nd place 22 times, and 3rd place 11 times. The other 4 races were below 3rd.

I usually race my souped up American muscle cars like the 1969 Dodge Charger or 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T. It's fun racing these cars against younger gamers with their import tuners.

As for funny stories, well back in the late 1980's I accidentally spilled an entire glass of milk on my Nintendo Entertainment System. I was playing one of the Super Mario games at the time and WOOPS. The screen went green and I was bummed, but on the plus side the system eventually came back to life. I mopped up the milk and scraped off any dried milk that got into the system and was able to play it years afterward.

I had a friend that really liked Guild Wars, I met him in one of the LARPS I used to belong to.

I was a full grown adult when pacman hit the market. I've purchased console after console for my kids but never played. Then came computers.

I began with Wolfenstein. Then went to Doom. Myst came next. [A real snoozer after playing Doom!] I hit upon Guild Wars two years ago and absolutely love it.

I team up with my kids or farm alone and sometimes use henchies. I've hooked a girlfriend into GW and we "elderly" women don our gaming headsets and play together - which my 15 year old son finds very amusing. We belong to a guild and it sometimes freaks the younger players out when "Mom" gets on vent. Sadly, I'm a real conversation killer! The good side is that my son and I actually have something to talk about that we can both relate to.

I guess I'm saying that there's lots of entertainment value in gaming even for us oldsters. It's a great stress reliever and much safer and cheaper than hanging out in a bar. Nothing like coming home after a hard day at the office and plowing down a herd of Charr.

One of my favorite games was Ultima Online.
It was the first MMORP, and it had everything, houses, PK's(player killers) loads of fun.
My favorite memory of that game was I was attacked by a PK once and I wasted him. On his body I found the key to his castle and a recall stone which led me straight there.
So I used the stone and broke into his castle only to find about 10 people waiting for me. As I ran they were yelling I would never get into the castle.
So I waited till about 4 in the morning and went back. Noone was there and I looted everything out of the castle, then to make it worse for them I took all their "carpet" remnants and to the top of the castle and spelled out my name for the whole world to see.
In all my years of gaming I have yet to have an experience like that.

I remember that one, father of all first person shooters on PC. Also, naturally, the first FPS to be modded. Not truely 3D (the characters were all sprites and the levels were all.. level), but still was a ton of fun at the time. There was a sequal too, Spear of Destiny. But I think at that point it was being rapidly eclipsed by the first Doom (which featured 3D levels, but also used sprites for monsters/etc.).

Yep, I did Spear of Destiny and then was sucked head-first into Doom. Seems like eons ago. I remember it was terribly complicated to play with a friend - you had to call and hook up modems or some such stuff. Took forever to figure it out [for me, anyway].

I managed to hook up with one of my husband's friends to play against each other and that was all well and good until I got the god codes - blew him away - and then made my character go over and stomp on his crumpled body. :)):))

The boys quit playing against me after that. They said I was just TOO MEAN! :))

Well there's this one picture floating around the internets of this guy duct taped to the ceiling. It looks like they ran out of room.

But I do remember this one time in college... One of the guys had found an import of Samba de Amigo. Which is essentially a game similar in format to DDR, but involves shaking Maracas instead of dancing.

And then there was that time in the commuter lounge where we watched someone play all the way through Devil May Cry 2. I missed bits of it, as I bothered to go to classes, but it looked pretty awesome at the time.

These days I've been playing Warhawk on the PS3 (when I have time), but the rank bugs are pretty frustrating. I've also gotten through most of FF12.

First game I ever played I think... Lets see, 1-1 to 1-2, 1-2 pipe to 4-1, 4-1? warp to 8-1, 8-1 to 8-2 to 8-3 to 8-4. At least, I think that was the right sequence for a speed run anyway. Of course, if you're talking a straight-through run, that's darn impressive.

Ever play Metroid? That one was a voracious consumer of time.

i used to play D&D with a guy named Gary Gyax..........maybe you heard of him?

i still have a DMG signed by him.......

this was around the time apples first came out and i made a program to print character sheets..........

Gary actually got to voice a chapter in the MMORPG D&D:Stormreach. Although, I found him to be a pretty, uh dull, narrator. Kinda monotone-ish. He wasn't always like that was he?

Also, that signed DMG is probably worth megabucks if you were to ever sell it...

Hmmm pirates... Yeah, but are there ninjas too?

the pizza command only worked on the PC version or you had to hack your console... never tried it or tried to get to it, but it was quite real.......

no nijas...... everyone has pretty much the same skills, no real specialization outside of which type of weapon you use.........

heh, yeah.... loved the snaaaaakkkeee call whenever you died........

no warps or codes or anything... straight thru..... every level......

yeah, first metroid was great... havent played prime or anything........ i remember it was a shock to the gaming community when it was revealed the metroid was a woman........

Metroid was the evil jellyfish like object that sucked your energy reserves dry. NOT the uber badass that was blowing up anything that moved...including a planet.

i met gary thru a guy named Jim Bill.. jim was this really incredible "nerd" who turned my onto the tolkien and D&D... he was the one who arranged for me to join in the sessions with gary.... i played a cleric named Pink the Merciful (named after Pink floyd)

no, he used to be very engaging...... he was an incredible DM.. you felt like you were really "there" in the game........

and he knew all the rules by heart.... since he pretty much invented them........

i remember the very first GenCon held at the gym at UW-Parkside (i used to live in kenosha at the time and gary lived about an hour away in Lake Geneva) and maybe.... maybe..... 100 people showed up........

within three years there were 1,000's of people showing up and they ended up moving it to actual convention centers.. and you had the futuristic D&D with psionic abilities and such.. forget the name of that game........

i will never sell that DMG.. i also have the original players handbook and monster manual along with the signed DMG still on my bookshelf.........

i really liked the dream cast.. with the little memory things you could grow your eggs in for the sonic game.........

i spent like $1200 when that first came out and then it ended up dying a quick death

i remember the colecovision.... first console that played like the arcade games (anyone remember pacman on atari? ick!)....... remeber the colecoo joystick with that huge number keypap? and the D&D game that was a stick figuire?

i also had a console that panasonic made.. had a disc on the bottom to play games like missle command... their version was called saving alantis or something........

i have (had) all the consoles you listed including a PS3 my brother in law bought for us last christmas........

I had the colecovison. I was in junior high when it came out. great system and a lot of fun.

Yeah, I remember that. Played DDO with friends and we were very excited to hear Gary...until he spoke, then we wanted it to go away. Poor Gary, really got the shaft with D&D.

I play games and am in school and hold a full time job. When I saw Eve online advertised here, I wasn't really surprised. I figured a bunch of Republicans played Eve. It does not cater to carebears who want everything to be fair. One night, in general chat, someone bashed Bush and I think thirty something people flamed the idiot. They had done such a thorough job that all I could add was "Cheney 2008".

Sadly, I left Eve when school got too heavy.

If its lightened up upgrade your computer and get ready to go back. Eve is getting a massive overhaul in the graphics department. As if it wasnt beautiful enough already

Oh and before i forget Samus Aran i believe the name of the woman was... last name might be different. (refering to metroid main character)

Now back to my original question: WE GOT ANY NINEBREAKERS UP IN THIS HOUSE?!

I only went back to school for a few semesters to finish my Bachelors. This is my last one and a lot of the classes are there for credits only, which means I don't spend much time doing homework.

I don't plan on going back to Eve because I want more action. I am in beta for Tabula Rasa and let me tell you something, I wanted action and I found it. TR is a crossover FPS/MMO. It's launching soon and i've pre-ordered.

Same here, I thought the Dreamcast was a great console, unfortunately (as you stated) it didn't last very long. I remember some of the games I had for the Colecovision, it's amazing how far gaming graphics and gameplay has evolved in the last 20 some odd years.

Just imagine how gameplay and graphics will be 20-30 years from now. Consoles will eventually drop the controllers with cords and go cordless permantely. Heck I'm still waiting for a home "virtual reality" game console. Imagine instead of playing a game like Halo 3 by looking at a t.v. you're actually "in" the game through virtual reality.

a home is going to need a full empty room to play a VR game one day.....

maybe even a holodeck.....

one can dream...... just like when i used to play P&P games we used to dream of a day when these monochrome computers would one day let us play a D&D type game on it... and even then, we never dreamed of playing them with other people hooked into the same world like the mmo's of today.........

I have a few friends who are all gamers and we're agreeing that we see PC games going away in the near future and nearly all games moving to consoles. It's already happening with consoles taking huge leaps in technology that they are.

I hear Funcom is developing their new game, Age of Conan, for the Xbox. I have no clue how that is going to work though. Sony did that for star wars galaxies and lost half of their player base due to the extreme changes that happened.

I have always liked PC games better, but it is impossible to keep up with the technology. At least with a console game it is plug and play with no worries.

well.. yes and no.......

i still remember "brads vision" (the original inventor of EQ, i forget his last name) had an awful amount of time sinks involved in it.... and he refused ot shortent he time sinks because they took away the "reality" of the game..........

sony did alot of things that i think were benificial to the low and lower mid range players......

i completely agree they destroyed monks.. which made clearing dragon palace and plane of fear longer.... but the change was neede to keep PoP balanced.. they should have changed the nerf to only be in effect in a couple zones for the high end.......

i remember brad started up a new company and was developing a new game that was supposed to be the best fantasy game ever.. but that was years ago and never heard anythign since..........

and sony screwed up SWO form beginning to end... they had no clue about high end content and balancing..........

and did you ever realize the Qeynos spelled backward is "Sony EQ"?
