Hello all.
I'm a college student. I have to right a paper this semester about a quote of my choice and I've chosen "Character is made by many acts; it may be lost by a single one." Anon.
Now, I'd like to make my supporting arguements about some fairly recent political figures. Scooter Libby and Larry Craig come to mind. I would like to find a source where I can research thier previous good works along with the acts that have brought them down. Of course the latter will be much easier to research (which only solidifies my arguement).
Also if anyone has any other specimen I could use for this paper that fit the criteria let me know. The more meat I can put in the paper the better am I right?
Thanks in advance for any who can help me out with some links to advance my research.

Good luck to you, and congratulations on working on your college degree. Your education is something you will never regret having.
The only suggestion I have is that you make sure and have someone proofread your paper before you hand it in. In just this post, you've made spelling errors which wouldn't show up on a spell-check (such as "right" instead of "write"). Won't hurt to run it through the spell-checker too (which would catch "arguement", which should be spelled "argument"), but a spell checker program doesn't see homonym errors as spelling errors.
BTW, I think you have chosen a great topic. Welcome to the boards!

That I did. But, I'm not really all that worried about my grammar in a post on the Sean Hannity forums. Thanks for pointing out how tired I was when I wrote this OP though. I better get some sleep.

How about the Governor who was in the accident because he told his driver to speed at 90MPH?
He was Mr.Safety, with no cell phones allowed while driving, and no speeding etc... then suffered because he did not follow his own rules.

Thats a perfect example! I seem to remember hearing that story awhile back but its sketchy in my mind. What was thier name and/or state, anyone?

It was the current governor of New jersey. I don't know his name.
Although not a political figure, Woody Allen would fit your topic.
Richard Nixon also comes to mind. My dad thinks he would have been considered one of the better presidents, but he got too greedy.

Thanks for the new suggestions. And I was able to find the name to go with the story thanks to you Quislet - John Corzine. Thanks again. Isn't it interesting how some political figures can do great thing after great thing and then mess up once and have thier careers ruined while others can mess up repeatedly and consistently only to be re-elected? Isn't America great!
I'm still having a hard time finding anything on Larry Craig other than the sex scandal and dates of elections and positions (not related to sex scandal) held. Did this guy do anything other than hold an office and visit rest areas?

You want to turn the class on it's ear,do Adolph Hitler. He supported many advancements in medicie and technology during his time, but of course he did it at an unthinkable expense.

Spelling and grammar are optional in college these days.

Mussolini got the trains to run on time... that was good. ;)
Oh... and take seriously what VRWCbabe said about spelling and grammar. You will be judged, not only in the Hannity Forums, but also in life by your ability to properly use the language. Bad grammar and spelling can cover up intelligence just as readily as a sloppy appearance can cover up character. Education and communication are the two main keys to success… why limit yourself with sloppy spelling and grammar when it is within your power to speak and write properly?
Pay no attention to Yankee in NC... he is illiterate. ;)

I normally do proof read my posts prior to posting them on forums. Not because I care if I'm using proper grammar on some random internet forum though. I proof read so 40% of the responses aren't "you used 'right' instead of 'write' you are or will be a failure in life". Yes, grammar is important expecially in college english classes. Seriously though I'm just looking for advice on sources not on grammatical perfectionism. Could we keep the topic at that? When I'm looking for grammar advice I'll make a new post titled "Do i spel gud?" and you can reply with your grammar posts there. Thanks.

Just FYI, grammar and spelling are two VERY different things, and I was only trying to be helpful. Next time, I'll just be sure and let you wallow.

Do you allways troll? I'm not sure why I thought Hannity forums would be used by a more refined base than others I have used in the past, but I was wrong. Every forum seems to have thier english teachers and I really do find it annoying. Its usually saved for when someones opinions differ from yours and you run out of arguement that acutally has substance. Other times it comes out when you just want to up your post count.

Yes, I can think of sooooooo many trolls who welcome new posters to the boards. I was trying to be kind, and your response was defensive and surly. Good luck to ya.

You want to turn the class on it's ear,do Adolph Hitler. He supported many advancements in medicie and technology during his time, but of course he did it at an unthinkable expense. Lousy example, actually an opposite example......I believe he is discussing otherwise good people to whom a single act damned them......whereas Hitler would be an otherwise evil person, whom many acts damned.
As for Senator Craig and Scooter Libby, allow me to plant some food for thought......sometimes there are good people who are run over by events in general. We tend to think acts damn people, such as Libby's case, however, the reality is that Libby was scapegoated. He was the victim of an investigation of a non-crime that was designed solely to catch someone making inconsistent statements in thousands of pages of depositions. I promise you that if you were called in to hours and hours of depositions on an incident that occurred two, three or four years ago, you JUST MIGHT find yourselves facing criminal perjury charges if a prosecutor is actively LOOKING for someone to charge with such a crime for political gain.
So we often have to ask ourselves, did the person we are condemning for certain acts actually do something truly depicable.....or are WE falling prey to a little bit of political propaganda?

Try Oliver North. Outstanding military career, and then crucified over Iran-Contra. Or the four-star general who became the subject of a witch hunt over Tailhook. Can't remember the guy's name.
As far as Craig goes, he seems to have been something of a RINO, and a non-entity for the most part. There, but not really doing a whole hell of a lot. I'm pretty sure no one outside of Idaho ever heard of him before last week.

For a guy with 6 posts and asking for help you sure come in with a chip on your shoulder. There is a very good group of people in these Forums. Regardless whether they are East or West Coasters or Heartlanders; City Folks or Country bumpkins; Professionals or Blue Collar; Liberal or Conservative; Religious or Atheist, for the most part they are educated, intelligent, friendly, caring and helpful. But they (we) do not tolerate rudeness lightly.

Just wanted to let you know I received an A on the essay I wrote using some of the suggestions from this thread. I also received an A overall in the class and a 4.0 for the semester. So, I guess mixing up "right" and "write" in a quick post on the interweb does not signal the need to place a person in the "you people" group.

Perhaps, but it does put you in the group of folks who should Google "irony". ;)
