Dombromski is not one to get desperate. He has also been that way. He likes to load up on pitchers. Look at this years draft. I think our first 6 picks were all pitchers. Pitchers are more valuable, and he has a thing for young pithcers. He likes to have a lot of them, to bring up if need or to trade if needed. The Shef trade would not have happened if we weren't so loaded with pitching prospects.
Expect another pitcher to be taken in the player to be named later as part of the Monroe trade. There is one particular pitcher that I would like but I don't think the Cubbies will let him go.

I am not complaining. I am just say that is the way that he operates. Thats the way he was trained when he first got started. I think for the White Sox and he was that way in Florida. He'll for position players if they are clearly better, but if it's a toss up he'll go after pitchers so that he can stockpile them.

One of the reasons that I have heard so much about him is that he's from ND. Still though from what In have heard he has a 99 MPH fastball annd some other pitches, but still need a lot of work. He's considered as one of the Cubs five best prospects. I know we don't have much of a chance of landing him, but hey I can still that he might come over, right?

I thought they made him part of the rotation to early. He was fine for a spot start here and there, but I think it was to early and he is to young, to become a permanent memner of the rotation. From what I have heard he only has confidence in one of his pitches.

We scored first on a Granderson sac fly, then they got a triple followed by a single and tied it up, then we went up 2-1, forgot how, followed by a Granderson solo shot and a Maggs 3 run shot. Currently Tigers 5, Royals 1.

I think working with Hernandez will be a good thing for him. He needs a Major League pitching coach to work with him on what he needs to develop. If he plays in the monirs, he will continue to use his fast ball, and his "sorts" curve ball. He needs to work on other things if he is going to make it in the Majors.

Yeah, he has a really good fastball and it has lots of movement and it is good enough to get him success in A and AA ball, but he'll probably need something more for AAA ball and definitely something more for the Bigs. I always thought that he was fine for a spot start here and there but wasn't ready to be a permanent member of the rotation.

Inning started off with a runner at second, Rabelo Sacrificed him to third, Maybin can in to pich run and Casey to pinch hit and tied the game with a single, then Infante came in to pinch run, then Inge grounded out to the catch, Infante went to second. Granderson got hit with the ball, putting runners at first and second with Polanci at the plate. Polanco singled through the infield and Infante beat the play home. Polanco gets the game winning RBI.
It was a scary game. We had the 1-0 lead that Rodney couldn't get out of a jam and allowed a 2 outs based loaded double, but as you can see the Tigers did what they had to go to get a much needed win.

I thought you'd like to read this.
I remember reading interviews before about Illitch not spending money on the Tigers. He said that I am not afraid to spend money, but I am not going to throw it away and spend lots of money on a team that I don't see any promise in. Frankly I can't blame him. If I was in his shoes I won't spend a lot of money the way that Randy Smith was running the team, but once Dombromski came aboard, he has opened up his pocketbook. Having said all that I serious doubt that we'll see a bloated payroll like the Yankees or Red Sox have.

Expect a flurry of announcement in the next couple weeks. Robertson's arbitration, whether or not Rogers and/or Jones will retire and if they will come back, whether or not we'll pick up Pudge's option. There will be a lot going on in the next couple of weeks.

Still a lot to do. What will become of Jones and Rogers? I heard that they both might retire. Then there is Robertson, he is eligible for arbitration. Then there is the delima about what to do about shortstop. Also LF is kinda up in the air, but I think they will give that to Perez considering how strong he was at the end of the season.

It's more than Jurgens, it's also Hernandez. I know we needed a shortstop, but Hernandez was a starter in the futures game. A lot of people in and out of the Tigers organization think he is going to be a star.

Yeah I know what they are doing and this is yet another player reunited with Leyland from the Marlins team. I also know that Hernandez is expendable. Maybin is going to be moving up quickly, Granderson is going to be there for a long time and Maggs might be around for quite a while. I just don't like the idea of trading a starter from the futures game who many think will be great for a SS whose best days might be behind him.

I have faith and there is no doubt that we'll be better next year. How many games were lost because Guillen couldn't make a play at short. I just don't like tossing out our best prospects for good players. Thats 5 good prospects that are gone in the last two years and one of them might be a great star. It just reminds of the way the Yankee do things and I don't like it.
I haven't been this upset since the Tigers fired Trammell and we all know how that ended up, so yeah I'd probably over reacting.

Yeah I know, I just don't like this trend. I also know that we really need a good fielding shortstop who could hit. From what I understand he batted 2nd at Atlanta, while he's not going to do that here, he might leadoff and drop Granderson to 5th or 6th where his power can be more effective. Then there is this:
Renteria and Polanco will form the new double-play combination, six years after their last season together. They became friends while playing for the St. Louis Cardinals in 1999-2002. Renteria called Polanco almost immediately after learning about the trade Monday.http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071030/SPORTS02/710300394/1050
We might see some great chemestry in the middle of the infield, something that has been lacking for a long time.

Well I know that this will make us better next year. Hernandez will wasn't going to have any kind of effect for at least 2 of 3 years and Jurrgens effect was going to minimal at best, maybe middle relief or bottom of the rotation, but there a good chance he wouldn't make the team and would be in AAA ball. My problem is when I look several years into the future.

My sister wanted to know just how much he owned in Detroit so I did a search and found that wiki site, which I usually don't like, because its not very reliable. Anyways when I saw how much there was I thought of ours talks about how the little good that is in Detroit is because of them. Ski, after thinking about the Infante-Jones, trade I am starting to come around on it. Especially after re-reading this article. http://detroit.tigers.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20071112&content_id=2298777&vkey=news_det&fext=.jsp&c_id=det
I was gone yesterday on family business, but when I came back I noticed that the Rollercoaster is coming and that Craig Monroe got traded to the Twins.
It's also worth mentioning that on the trip, I heard on sports talk radio where Dombromski had 4 main needs that he wanted covered this offseason. A quality glove at short, a good left handed bat, a closer, and a veteran starting pitcher. Three of those four are done and if Rogers was serious when he said that he wanted to retire as a Tiger then then fourth will probably be done shortly, at least that is what I am hoping for.
In not so good news last night Henrik Zetterberg's point streak has come to an end.

Infante really didn't help us much, I think Santiago was better in that role and at first I didn't understand the trade because frankly we have enough outfielders, but when I heard about him fitting the need as a Left hand batter, then it made sense. I am still not happy about the Renteria trade, I think we gave up to much. I know the Dombromski check list is almost done, but what I really want to see done, I haven't even heard him talk about it and that is to beef up our bullpen. If Rogers comes back then I an happy with out rotation for the most part. Rogers/Verlander/Bonderman/Robertson and the fifth might be Miller if he is ready, if not him maybe Tata, Zasquez, Durbin, or Trahern. All of those filled that role at one time or another except for Trahern, but I have heard great things about Trahern.

I really don't know what to make of this. During the season he said he wanted to come back next year and at other times he said that he wanted to retire as a Tiger and now we have this. I don't know what he is looking for. He was injured most of last year and is pretty old. Theres not going to be a lot of teams out there who will give him better offers that Detroit will.

I think he needs to look realistically at his career and future. You pointed out 2 key facts...his age, and his injury from last year. In all honesty, I say he should just retire and be done with it.

That would be fine with me to. He thinks that he has at least another year in him and the Tigers agree with him on that, so given that I would like to see him come back, but I kinda agree with you that he needs to retire from playing and become the Tigers fielding coach (for pitchers). Yeah I know its a new position that has never been used, but our boys can use one and we all know that he could do the job.

I don't think he is that wishy-washy. I take what was happening more on his agent than on him. Once he got rid of his agent, I knew that he would come back like he wanted to. The additional time, was just a matter of learning the agents job. I just hope that he's healthy for most of the season, his absence as well as the bullpen injuries really hurt.

All of his wishy washy type statements came through his agent and happened between the end of the season and his firing. I really don't believe that Rogers is wishy-washy. He said all season long that he wanted to come back to Detroit next year, I never really doubted that. I just thought his agent put big ideas in his head and he finally saw through that and realized that was never gonna happen and canned him.

Boras kept saying that he wanted to come back to Detroit, but that they were going to test the market to get the best deal they could. Then when Rogers found out that he was offered to deals by the Tigers and his agent rejected them without even telling him about it, he promptly canned him. Then he had to take some time off to figure out what an agent does and what he had to do to represent himself.

I like Durbin, but he's basically mid-inning reliever and I think we still have a lot of those, though I am not sure about how our recent trades have affected us there. I feel the same way about Seay, I'd like us to keep him, but if we lose him, then I am not going to be all that disappointed. Yeah we need Robertson, and he'll come back top his starting role. No question about it. As far as Thames on am not so sure what they will do. With the acquisition of Jones, I think they might let Thames go and let Jones and Raburn platoon left field.

Leyland has 4 bench slots in his lineup. It would very well be Thames, Raburn, Santiago, and Wilson (or whoever Pudge's backup will be). I'd be happy with that. Don't get me wrong, I'd like to see us keep Thames, it's just that I understand if he leaves, there's only so much roster spots. The trade for Jones makes things a little tighter for position utility players.

I like him, yeah he struggles, but what pitchers didn't struggle for us last year. He's no ace, but he's a good bottom of the rotation guy.

Ahh but the atmosphere at Comerica is awesome...and there is no bad seat in the house.
It is a wonderful day....going to eat at a great downtown restaraunt, going to the game, then heading to Greektown for dessert......perfect!
