My oldest grandson is 'high functioning' autistic; when he was very young, his speech patterns tended toward imitation. (he once shouted "Help! Help! I'm being repressed!" in the store when my daughter refused to buy him sweets)
But the best one was when she overheard him reciting the Valtrex commercial on the way to pre-school.

I don't know if it is good or bad, but at least I know what Genital Herpes is (although not through experience).
When they advertise for some condition I have never heard of, it makes me wonder just exactly how large their audience is. I guess they always have the hypochodriacs to pad their figures, but when they promote:
"Zyphenex, for the sufferers of Smith-Jones-Hugyens Syndrome" (all 200 of you), I just wonder what they have to charge to fund the development and promotion...glad I don't have SJH-S, either

I've seen that commercial.
It says the medication "decreases" the chance of infection.
I keep thinking: "Okay, if you don't want herpes, why don't you dump that infected loser and find someone who isn't diseased?"

:)) :)) :)) My daughter is autistic, so I can totally relate to this. About all you can do is laugh. She is 19, but still repeats stuff she heard years ago . Mostly it's stuff from Disney and Sesame Street tapes, but she's been know to say four letter words, too, which can be quite embarrassing.
As far as t.v. commercials, the only thing I've heard her pick up is a partial phone number. She'll say, "Call 1-800-......."

I like listening to the side effects.
Being a walking cue-ball, I know a thing or two about losing hair. When they came out with Propecia (Rogain in a pill) I started listening. On the side effects list it said, "Certain sexual side effects". In other words, impotence. I thought GREAT, why's the guy trying to regrow his hair in the first place?

Why does that ad sterotype hetrosexuals?
Why no gay couples on there?
Two lesbians could be on there, one saying how she has genital herpes and then pan to her lover who says "I wish we had valtrex last year" through her oozing sore infested mouth.
Could a gay man with herpes ride a bike or a horse without cringing in pain?
Now that would make for a good commercial.

No. Cold sores are HSV-1 is the virus that causes cold sores, with about 58% of all Americans carrying that virus. HSV-2 is what causes genital herpes, and while my ****tail napkin math was off, it wasn't by much.

Shingles is the reappearance of the chickenpox zoster virus in adulthood. MOST people get chicken pox in their youth and never have to deal with it again, but it does reappear through various factors (immune system compromised, stress, age) when people are adults. Very painful and debilitating, and it seems like some people are more prone to it than others.
Shingles is the reoccurence after having chickenpox in your youth. You can have adult onset chickenpox, and that's what it is, chickenpox. I got chickenpox at the age of 34. Lemme tell ya, I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy. Sickest I've ever been, it laid me out for an entire month and it literally was 4-5 months before I was completely right again. I had blisters on the bottom of my ****ing FEET, for crissakes.
But I learned all about the various and sundry forms of herpes virii in the downtime.

Folks you are offending Paris Hilton. Stop it
Are you referring to this?
http://www.thesuperficial.com/archives/2006/03/09/paris_hilton_probably_has_herp.html
March 09, 2006
Paris Hilton probably has herpes
If you happened to just scan over the E! Online story about Paris Hilton's latest restraining order, you might have missed this particularly interesting tidbit:
Quintana testified last month that his relationship with Hilton turned nasty after she overheard him informing her beau, Stavros Niarchos, that she might have a sexually transmitted disease.
"I wanted him to be aware of it--that she had herpes. To make sure he didn't catch anything. He informed me that he was [aware]," Quintana said.
He said Hilton interrupted his conversation with Niarchos and became "furious."
"She said, 'This is between the three of us; if this gets out you're a f---ing dead man,'" Quintana said. He claimed that after the exchange, he began receiving suspicious phone calls and started to believe his life was in "imminent danger."
So, if you happen to find yourselves on the dance floor with the heiress and she invites you back to her hotel room to participate in some "carnal loving" (the actual words she'll use), ask yourself this: Is a night with Paris worth a lifelong itch in your groin? Be careful out there, boys and girls. And raccoons. And dogs. And every other living thing that Paris Hilton would probably have sex with.

as a sufferer of herpes, i would just like to say how shocked i am by all of your complete disregard to the millions of us suffering daily. it was not something we woke up one morning and decided to be diagnosed with. for many of us it took years to "get over" and many still have emotional and psychological issues with it. my story was a case of rape when i was 18. imagine my trauma when two weeks after the incident, while im still trying to cope with what was done to me, i find out i also contracted a lifetime std from the jerk. my cousin was also diagnosed when she found out her high school sweetheart whom she was married to for ten years cheated on her and basically gave it to her as a divorce "present" if you will. all that i have seen from your posts is insensitivity and pure shallowness. i once thought something like this could never happen to me, but it did and im still trying to cope. it doesnt help one bit that people like you comment on why anyone would ever want to date anyone with this and that the medicine itself is ridiculous. i am actually on this medication and it is the number one proven help for this disease. i am eternally thankful to its developers and i still wake up every morning wondering if one day someone will take me as i am and not focus on what i have. this disappoints me in humanity and compassion

Hey, I agree with him that the commericals PROBABLY shouldn't be on prime time. Not to mention they ARE a bit ridiculous and not even remotely serious (which STDs are). I also liketo mute Viagra commercials, various feminine hygiene commercials, BC commercials, pretty much anything I don't want to listen to that lends it's self to funny dialogue. Barbie commercials are pretty fun too.

There is a master room somewhere.... where every drug/pill is linked to each other on a white board. Once you take one, its inevitable that you will require every other pill/drug along the path to the "main cure".
All drug commercials are evil. Except for the flintstones vitamins. They introduce the young to adult addictions.
When I see the OPs commercial... I always laugh and say "Yeah, good luck with that"

welcome to the forum.....
I do not know if this poster is real or anything, but what a sad story. A divorce present?
I do agree with the shallow and often very insensitive nature of some of these posts. I find it very funny that lots of people get lifelong diseases from various activities in life, but to have a sexually transmitted disease is fully open to everybody elses hangups about sex and other bodily functions and their compulsion to berate anybody for being what they wrongfully stereotype as promiscuous. I mean, just because you have genital herpes does not mean you are a person without morals or human feelings.

I think you did. but either way, folks with the herpes can and do have sexual relations with others who do not. Controlling the outbreaks is an important step for that to happen. herpes, though a little unsettling, is not a death sentence.

well, pharmaceutical companies have as much right to advertise their products as anybody else. Even if the subject causes some to be a bit uncomfortable. Or should we all just ignore the disease so it will just go away? and yes, I know there is no known cure for herpes.
as for the less hokey and easily made fun of, well people are going to make fun anyway no matter how the commercial is done.

Fine if they're going to do that, and make dumbass commercials then tehy subject themselves to ridicule. If the commercial is STUPID, it's stupid. i'm not going to pretend it's not so I don't hurt someone's feelings.

::shrugs:: guess that's what they get for advertising it then huh? Also those commercials don't provide any sort of education, so their purpose is just to sell a product, and they aren't even doing it SERIOULSLY. I think people are plenty aware of the disease already, so no one is saying pretend it doesn't exisist, I am just saying eitehr make a commercial that's worth watching and not stupid as hell if you're goign to talk about something like that.

moving the goalposts, nobody said anything about a law, just the stupidity of having sexual relations with someone who has herpes. and yes, I didnt say you couldnt express your opinions. isnt that what we are here for? or do I just like to type?
I was trying to express that it might not be as stupid. with this drug, one can effectively control the outbreaks and make it possible to have sexual relations without passing on the virus to the partner. Its a chance. and thats what I meant by trying to find someone to love, because herpes is not a death sentence. just because someone has a virus, does not automatically make them sexless non-humans. Not everybody who has this got it from sleeping with everything that walk on 2 legs.
I can say though, out of the few people I have known who have herpes, its usually a conversation stopper. Paranoia coupled with ignorance.
As for the nature of these commercials and viagra too. Just because the subject matter makes you uncomfortable doesn't mean they shouldn't be on tv. These drugs are very usefull for the folks who have this, whether or not they are still sexually active.

That's a commerical that bugs me too. Is there that big of a market for such drugs? I know they have to for disclosure reasons but the warnings are just as bad. "Do not take Valtrex if you have acute kidney disease, or kidney problems due to advanced HIV".
I'm thinking: If I have herpes and advanced HIV, the last thing I'm worried about is getting jiggy between outbreaks.
