Alcohol as a Cure for Depression
By: tha malcontent

Alcohol as a Cure for Depression... I Know, that sounds Extreme, and from what you have been Told your Entire Life, Alcohol is part of the Problem with Depression...

I do not Agree with that Conclusion in ALL Cases... Actually, not even Most.

As with many things in our Culture, we take the Rare Occassion and make Light of it...

Be it the Relatively Occassional Negative in Iraq being Trumpeted while the Overwhelming Good is all but Ignored, or how a handful of people who watch Porn and then go on Murdering, Raping Rampages...

The same happens with Alcohol.

You only hear about Idiots who can't stay away from Vehicles when Blind Drunk and end up Running down a Family in a Crosswalk...

Or the Occassional Drunk Women who Beats her Husband and Children Nightly in her Regular Stooper.

I Submit that the Billions and Billions and Billions of times Alcohol is Employed, and has been since it was Given to us by God himself, it has not been the Problem, instead the Solution.

A couple of years ago I have now Concluded that I was Depressed... If not for Whysky, I might not have made it through that Depression.

Had I Stopped Drynking, as many People Suggest, I don't Know where I would be today.

I have Written this to see if there are any others out there like me...

People who want to Stand up for the Juice of Life...

Anybody?...

I think shopping is a hell of a good cure for depression.
You at least have something to show for it, that is not a hangover. :)

I have noticed that when I'm out "having a few", I tend to have more when I'm in a very good, or happy mood, ie - watching a sporting event with friends.

In 1992, I was layed off from a job that I had for 14 years. My entire adult life at the time. I picked up a six pack on the way home, and took it poolside. I cracked one open and sat there for an hour without touching it. I was not real happy that day, and had no interest in drinking at all.

Going to a tanning bed...and listening to music and talking about things (with someone you trust) no matter how nutty they sound helps me...most importantly talking to God...and saying whatever is on your mind to Him...he already knows anyhow:)

Everyone does it some Form or another at some Point in their Lives...

As I've said so many times, we each have the right to our own opinion...and I certainly wouldn't want anything I say to be taken personally - unless, of course, the shoe fits, and you wanna wear it, if you know what I mean. ANYWAY...I'll stop rambling, and get to the point.. The title to this thread is, "Alcohol - a cure for depression?"...and I just thought I'd take this opportunity to share something with ya'll. Several of my family members drink alcohol...no one seems to have any problems from it...they are all just casual drinkers. All except for one. My younger cousin...younger by only 3 years...she began drinking when she was legally allowed, but what was harmless to others became almost deadly to her. Alcohol led her to drugs, and now her life is completely unmanageable. She has never spoken about her troubles - to any of us...but recently, she sent me a copy of a poem she has written, and it goes like this:
AN ADDICT'S REGRET
I WONDER...
Why do I foolishly rush toward destruction?
Does the mask in the mirror hide a DEMON'S reflection?

Caught up in my web of deceit and denial;
Heading blindly for tragedy, just to "spin" for a while.

CONFUSION! PARANOIA! DISTRUST! and DISTAIN!
So familiar, these feelings...so comfortable with my pain.

Once a thoughful, sweet girl, so concerned for her loved ones;
Now a selfish, scheming bitch, worn out from too many drug runs.

Make sense of my life? How? Is this even me?
Maybe soon I'll awake from this nightmare, DRUG FREE!

Ahh, to begin it again, knowing what I know now;
To live happily, as a "NORMIE"..maybe someday...somehow?

HAH!

Who am I lying to fool? Me and You? (So what's new?)
Fact is, I'm forever an addict, to the bone, through and through.

Kind of heartbreaking, but I honestly can't say I understand. I guess that's the point.

I'm a happy drinker. I have to agree about the cry-baby drinkers. There are a lot of people that just shouldn't drink. I had a friend that was an angry drunk who'd punch walls and trees and become generally self-destructive.

I had a girlfriend that would just become obnoxious, and then be like, "What, am I embarassing you?" Kicked her to the curb.

My wife is a lightweight and can't handle booze at all. Two drinks and she's falling down drunk.

SarahG
March 9th, 2007, 12:33 pm
I believe that lots of people are happy when they are drinking, some get mean for sure but the real depression comes the day after when you experience the lows after being so high.

Also, I have known people who are already experiencing problems with damage to their liver and other organs and they are only social drinkers. It isn't really good for you physically or mentally.

It also ages you especially if you smoke along with drinking... Something to think about.

Pot isn't much better once the high has diminished.

That being said , I like to treat depression with alcohol(good wine specifically). And what was wrong with porn?

But if you do decide to use alcohol with antidepressents, get ready for a incapacitating drunk. You'll end up drooling on the couch for about 6hrs.

Drooling is the least of your worries with that combo.

More like permanent vascular and intestinal damage, extreme dehydration, blotchy skin, big mood swings, erratic behavior, blackouts, tendency to harm one's self, etc. If you aren't careful, or if you're sensitive, you can die from the combination.

While there's definitely a point where what you say, drinking in moderation is fine, and has been for a long time. I think your words are a lot more applicable for those who take antidepressants. There should be a warning label on those pill bottles, "Do not take if nursing, pregnant, or if you give a **** about your health."

So whats the most dangerous drug?

Meth, Heroin Coke maybe?

The following comes from a US Dept. of Justice report into links between drugs and violence.

Of all psychoactive substances, alcohol is the only one whose consumption has been shown to commonly increase aggression. After large doses of amphetamines, cocaine, LSD, and PCP, certain individuals may experience violent outbursts, probably because of preexisting psychosis. But alcohol it seems has the potentual to turn anyone of us into a violent monster.

The report from 1994 indicates that of all substance abusers, a drunk is by far the most dangerous and agressive. This destroys one of the prohibisionists main drug war arguments.

If Millions of Americans did those Drugs, and Meth Included, and I mean the same number that Drynk, do you Honestly Think that Assertion would be Accurate?...

I think a good cure for depression is to do whatever it is that helps you get over yourself. Whether it's a good night of being drunk or a kick in the ass.

Though if you have one of those chemical imbalances, you can just take a regiment of vitamins, that is, if you know which ones.

The best way to get over anxiety and depression is to take a break from your regular schedule, go out, and take good sleep. This helps in clearing the mind and try consulting a specialist who can suggest you as how you can get over your problem. There are various prescription drugs to get over anxiety and depression, but these should only be used in accordance with the instruction of a physician. There is a lot of fake selling of such medicines on internet, so before you can order it online just make sure it is a real pharmacy. I am having it from http://www.xanax-effects.com (http://www.xanax-effects.com/)

Wouldn't it only be a cure if you drank, got cured and stopped drinking since you were "cured"? :))

Too bad the "cure" killed someone I love. Got rid of her addiction too....for good.

Depressed people online have been known to turn to alcohol(PUI) and this:

http://www.cybersexualaddiction.com/

'The Internet is the crack cocaine of sex addiction'

So would we call this a cure also for those who indulge?

Oh by the way, there's a quiz at the link for those who enjoy internet pop quizzes.

If you drink to "cure" depression then once "cured" you no longer need the drug, right?

How do you know you're "cured"? Cured indicates a permanant state.

You are not alone, buddy.

In the grand total of two months I've spent at home in the last 15 months, I've consumed 34 bottles of assorted liquor and wine. Not to include all the beer I drank.

I was lit up almost everyday I was at home with my wife trying not to think about going away for another year and I was much happier buzzed than I ever have been on duty.

My wife doesn't even mind how much I drink because I'm never in a negative mood when I do. In fact, though she says it's no excuse to drink too excessively, she says I'm even more playful when tipsy.

The only reason I drank that much alcohol is because I can no longer smoke marijuana now that I'm in the Army. If I could, the results would be even better than drinking.

So I'm all for the Juice of Life and the magic pipe for helping to smooth out many personal struggles of mine. My beautiful wife would second that notion too :)
