I was thinking you were just younger than me, couldn't remember exactly though.
I was asked to skip a grade when I was younger. My mom said no though, b/c she didn't want to make my sister feel bad. Then in high school I could've graduated in 3 years, but I was in no hurry to meet the real world. I slacked off a bit.......still managed to graduate cum laude though. Even slacking.

They go off and two-step to a great polka. Drives me nuts.

A TEXAN IN HELL-
Day 1 - Per his daily ritual, Satan walks through his domain to see that everyone is sufficiently miserable. As usual, he pauses to take special pleasure in the pain and agony displayed by the new arrivals. However, on this particular day he spots a lanky Texan smiling and looking as though he's at a picnic. "Hey you!", Satan yells, "The temperature in here is a constant 95 degrees and the humidity is 90%! You're supposed to be miserable!"
Quips the Texan, "Maybe so, but it feels just like Houston in June to me. I had a ball on those hot summer nights at Gilleys."
Miffed, Satan decides to adjust the temperature up to 100 degrees and the humidity to 95%.
Day 2 - On his daily stroll, Satan notices everyone appears exceptionally miserable today. He remembers the smiling Texan and decides to see how he's faring today. To his surprise, the Texan has unbuttoned a couple of buttons on his shirt, but he still looks happy and carefree. Satan cries out, "Hey Tex, what are you smiling about now?"
The Texan replies, "Well today reminds me of those Willie Nelson 4th of July picnics. Boy those were some great parties."
This really irritated Satan, who promptly turns the temperature down to 110° and the humidity up to 100%.
Day 3 - Satan dispenses with his daily stroll and goes straight to the region of hell where he would locate the Texan. Sure enough, he finds the Texan, shirt-off, with a huge grin on his face. "Okay, so what is it this time?" Satan asks.
"Well, it's just like Dallas in August. Man we had some fine times watching the Cowboys on Sunday afternoons."
Irate, Satan determines to put an end to this charade. He sets the temperature down to zero degrees with a 25 mile per hour wind.
Later that day, Satan decides to check back on that fool hardy Texan.
He finds him huddled and shivering...lips blue, arms folded, snow in his hair and icicles hanging from his mustache. But bigger than Dallas, there he was laughing out loud and cheering.
"I GIVE UP!" declared Satan. "What in blue blazes could you find to be happy about now."
The Texan replied, "Well, this can only mean one thing... The Aggies have finally won a National Championship!"

I don't know, Mel. But I was driving around north of Lake Ray Roberts a few weeks ago, enjoying oogling all the beautiful fenced in ranch land and saw a huge sign posted next to someone's private road that said, "TexDOT not welcome, Stay Off..." and then something about "the corridor."
On the one hand I was sad that all the land is taken and on the other I was sad for the people who have but face losing it for all kinds of reasons (including but not limited to: land grabbing socialist politians, land grabbing urbanites spreading north driving up property values, landgrabbing tax collectors, and drought).
Well, I hope I can find a chunck of that land for myself some day and can live out my life there before someone comes and takes it from me.

I have a friend who lived in Houston and liked the cosmopolitan feel of it. But as someone who has (obviously) been to other parts of Texas, maybe I will take advice on where to go. I assume it is hard to see alot of Texas in just a week which is usually how long I take at a time for a vacation.

it would be very hard to see much of Texas in just a week, but it would be very easy to see Houston, Austin and San Antone in a week. You could even squeeze in Dallas, but that might be pushing it.
I live between Houston and Austin...if you ever decide to do it. let me know!! lots of us Texans on this board...
But seriously if you decide to do it, we can talk more. Hmmm. I'm just thinking, I might actually rather fly into and out of Austin and then visit Houston rather than the other way around. hmmm. just an idea.

I get out...just not there.
I try to get to South Padre at least once a summer. Usually w/ just my daughter. My husband and my son don't love the beach as much as she and I do.
I try to get to Schlitterbahn at least once a summer also. Usually w/ my best friend. Our kids grew up, but we still LOVE Schlitterbahn, so we still go. Last summer we did take our two daughters though and had so much fun. Our daughters actually made it first in line for the Master Blaster, we were about tenth. (quick little kids.)
I get to Austin a couple of times a year, but I never travel from Austin to San Antone. Never really go to SA much at all....just by-pass it on the way to the deer lease.
I go to College Station a lot, b/c both of my kids are there, although we are a Longhorn family. I know. I know. Long story.....
and then I go out of town quite often...I've been to all 50 states. Some many times.....

well, the ONLY thing in LaGrange is the truck...and he asked me to pick up the bowling ball. IF he had wanted to do other things, I suppose he would've gone himself. ;)

yeah, the bluebonnets like to arrive late, as do the spiderworts. I love the spiderworts, but I think it's b/c I like the name.
We don't get many indian blankets, but they are beautiful when I actually spot one. I have a friend who lives in Magnolia, and I love the drive to her house in the spring b/c I do pass a huge field of indian blankets then....

lol...individually I'm not so sure each flower is pretty, but an entire yellow field is down right beautiful. We have a lot of this going on where I live.
