We go a week early most of the time and miss all the traffic. I love the festivals, but they're not exactly bargains. Everyone there is on the antiques "circuit" and there are very few deals to be found. With that said, a day in the country is a day in the country especially when you can go back to the cabin and have a beer and snacks on the porch.

I did get one deal there, an antique all copper water tank that was probably a stock tank for a windmill. It holds about 75 gallons and the dealer didn't know it was copper. It weighs a TON but it only cost me 50 bucks :)). Fill it with ice and beer and kick back. I love that whole area out there.

I live in the country .... a day in the country is, well, a day in my life.
I'm guessing you live in the Houston area and have a weekend place in Round Top?
I almost never go to the antique shows out there ... not unless a good friend invites me. Otherwise I avoid the crowds and the "bargains" ;)

OK...I just got back from Alabama. My sister had to go back and close on her old house out there....and we took a road trip together.
Coming home, she drove a U-haul while I drove her convertible. :)

Hey Dal, when you were up in the Dallas area, did you ever go to the state fair?? I've never been to the state fair. go to many county fairs, but just never made it to the big one.

no I never went..I have gone to Houston Live stock and Rodeo....

I read this and couldn't believe it. Here we have not just one but two Texas gals who have never been to the greatest state fair in the world? Girls, you need to get together this fall and go experience the land of Big Tex together. It is one of those things that every Texan needs to experience at least one time in his or her life...sort of like going to the Alamo. I wish I had a dollar for everytime I've been to the Texas State Fair or Six Flags Over Texas. I might have already retired if I had. ;)

tex, I'm so glad you survived move-in day. When my daugher moved up to UT, she missed move-in day. I can't remember now why ... but it's something I never regretted. She moved in a couple days late and we missed the mad rush. She lived in Harden House. bunch of stuck up bitches. she hated it.

Well, "survive" is about all I can say...:)) There was a 2-hour wait for assisted move-in (not to mention the line for the elevator once you get the assist), so we hand-carried everything ourselves. Up 8 flights of stairs. In 100+ degree heat.
