I was also told how to find Texas:
Keep heading West til you smell manure.
Then you're in Oklahoma.
Head South til you step in it.
You're in Texas.
Sidestreamer used to agree with that ... not sure if he still does.

I remember those..
I lived in Texas a few years when younger. Was never more than 2 years at a time, which was the longest. The rest were a few months here and there. Dad worked for T.I. back then, and I was a young one. Lived in Houston (Jersey Village), Dallas area (Mesquite), Lubbock, Midland and a few other places that I was too young to remember.
We moved back and forth from the New Orleans area until I was 6th grade, when we settled in Slidell finally.
If I can't live in Louisiana, Texas is my next choice, my current location being third (I do love Vicksburg).
I miss the food in Texas.. Everytime I go there I eat eat eat!!
Houston is incomparable as a food destination.. You can eat out every meal every day for a year, never eat the same place twice, and never get a bad meal.. It's an amazing place.
(Traffic is a PITA though);)

(Traffic is a PITA though);)
thanks JEB for sharing this....I grew up in Houston, so I know exactly what you mean about the food, and I know Jersey Village. I remember when Jersey Village was new. I remember when Jones Rd and 1960 were in the country. Those days are gone now.
I was born and raised in the city, but I couldn't wait to get out into the country .... I now live out in the fat middle of nowhere between Houston and Austin. and I love it. I'm in the country, but I can get into Houston, Austin and even San Anotonio fairly quickly. :)
oh, and I also get into Lake Charles to go gambling fairly quickly. :)

I never went to Waterworld ... although I lived many summers at Astroworld.
Schlitterbahn is the BEST water park in the country ... the original in New Braunfels goes on for acres and acres.
get there early ... park in the Blastenhoff parking area, and as soon as the gates open, head straight for The Master Blaster. that is the ONLY way you'll get to ride it ... otherwise the line takes too damn long as the day fills up. and you have to ride The Master Blaster!!!

Texas Female Protection
In Texas, a woman was called in front of a grand jury for possible manslaughter charges after she shot a mugger in the back six times as he was running away with her purse. He had grabbed her purse and ran. She had her hand on her gun inside the purse and when he ran with the purse she was left holding just the gun.
When asked by the grand jury why she shot him six times in the back as he was running. Under oath she replied “Because when I pulled the trigger the 7th time, it only went click.”
She was acquitted of all charges because that’s the way it is in Texas and the way it should be everywhere.

Hi Melinda, so how is everyone doing? Good I hope. Well, got another joke for you, this time about those crazy Kansans.
A Kansas farm wife called the local phone company to report her telephone failed to ring when her friends called - and that on the few occasions, when it did ring, her dog always moaned right before the phone rang.
The telephone repairman proceeded to the scene, curious to see this psychic dog or senile lady. He climbed a telephone pole, hooked in his test set, and dialed the subscriber's house.
The phone didn't ring right away, but then the dog moaned and the telephone began to ring.
Climbing down from the pole, the telephone repairman found:
1. The dog was tied to the telephone system's ground wire with a steel chain and collar.
2. The wire connection to the ground rod was loose.
3. The dog was receiving 90 volts of signaling current when the number was called.
4. After a couple of jolts, the dog would start moaning and then urinate.
5. The wet ground would complete the circuit, thus causing the phone to ring.
Which demonstrates that some problems CAN be fixed by ****ing and moaning.
Thought you'd like to know.

There's a place between Burton and LaGrange (yes that LaGrange) called Round Top. The population sign says 77. We have 20 acres and a cabin there and as soon as school is out I'll be there planting trees with my kids. It sounds corny, but it is just a little bit of heaven here on Earth.
Don't mess with Texas.

We go a week early most of the time and miss all the traffic. I love the festivals, but they're not exactly bargains. Everyone there is on the antiques "circuit" and there are very few deals to be found. With that said, a day in the country is a day in the country especially when you can go back to the cabin and have a beer and snacks on the porch.
I did get one deal there, an antique all copper water tank that was probably a stock tank for a windmill. It holds about 75 gallons and the dealer didn't know it was copper. It weighs a TON but it only cost me 50 bucks :)). Fill it with ice and beer and kick back. I love that whole area out there.
