can you afford that?

the doctor didn't like it....but he had to admit I'm in great shape and extremely healthy, so he didn't fuss too much. But apparently fat and estrogen work hand in hand so the more fat I lose, the more estrogen I lose.......which is not good. He's also worried about my bones b/c I have such a small bone structure and I'm getting older now. :((

I've heard of that...mainly in extreme cases, but yeah, it's true. Things like female marathon runners having hormonal problems because of their low body fat.

don't kill the messenger, but remember as a person...er....uh....eh...chronologically progresses, their hormonal output decreases....

Get your thyroid checked too...so many things are attributed to the thyroid putting out too much or too little...everything from weight fluctuations to low grade bipolar disorder to full blown depression...

Start taking calcium. I'm sure, though, that you get plenty of Vitamin D from being out in the sun, so check with your doctor to see if you need Vitamin D supplements.

Strength training helps with prevention of bone loss, as well.

Don't worry...I've already alerted my friends in Odessa (the ones on parole or probation anyway) that Doug is coming to town...they'll take care of him...

Is Odessa really that bad?

depends on your point of view and how you act while there, really...some love it, some hate it, some don't care one way or the other...

Odessa: I've met and endeared life long friends there, met and confronted life long enemies...I've watched close friends die, and others get reborn. I've watched real millionaires treat the poor with dignity and respect, and watched day to day rich folks treat others like trash...I've been shot at, involved in more bar fights in my younger days than I should have survived...

Then the next day.... Like I told you before D, just treat people and their hometown with some genuine respect, and you'll get along just fine....otherwise, off to the Sludge Pit.

I don't like needles. Period. It's bad enough just getting a shot. When I was in the hospital the other day and they put that stupid IV recepticle thingy in my wrist I was really struggling not to cry out or just fly right out of the bed (which considering what I was wearing at the time would have been entertaining). Getting poked 1000+ times is not on my list of "things I must do before I die".

So you got the gig, huh? Good for you! Congratulations - seriously

As you have already seen, Odessa/Midland is EXPLODING population, cultural, and in every other measureable capacity...it its (from my understanding) almost as much of a boomtown mentality as what went on in the 70s....

There are 2-3 other liberals there...a few guys silly enough to drive SMART cars...a greater percentage of Ron Paulites to normals than you would think, but I'd stay out of Dos Amigos a bit longer.

Most of the liberal contingents are imports, so they really don't have much sayso until one or two generations - teach your children well...

And Doug...let me invite you to the 9th Annual Intertribal Powwow, Sep 27 and 28th, Odessa College Sports Complex...as time draws closer, contact me at the studio (I'm in the yellow pages - user name is easily identifiable in phone book and Google maps) for details...

More or less..Odessa is 20-25 miles from here...

Used to be some pretty bitter feelings between Odessa and Midland...came to an ugly head when University of Texas Permian Basin decided almost at the last second to move from a midway point to inside Odessa city limits...

That may be starting up again, as Midland is trying to annex land slated for a UTPB expansion project...

Its us against them, until an outsider decides to start something with either...then we join forces.

My kids go/went to Churchill, so my interest was in the Gucci Bowl rather than the Chili Bowl. Couple of years ago a fight broke out at one of the pre-game spirit events...the schools no longer call it the "Gucci Bowl" or do the pre-game stuff, although the name isn't going away anytime soon.

It wasn't Central...it was Fox Tech vs Lanier I think///

In the 70s, not many 2A rivalries could match the Cole HS/Randolph HS fiasco every year...both schools on military bases, both schools accused of having service families with talented athletes stationed on the bases for the sole purpose of participating in sports (Shaq O'Niell is a Cole HS graduate I think...)

Gucci Bowl - funny. Hadn't heard of that one (its been a while since I was there)

When the Gucci Bowl (Churchill vs. Clark), it was so billed because the two schools were the "rich" schools of the time.

Also, in the 70s, Cole, Randolph, Judson and the little town I grew up in were all in the same district. Now Judson is huge (they finally split the school a couple of years ago), and my hometown has been 4A for years...with a new school opening. But Cole and Randolph are still little-bitty...

alright dammit...I dug up an old yearbook (like I have any new ones?) and find these schools were 27AA:

- Cole
- Randolph (sucks)
- Somerset
- Southside
- Boerne (that must be you, Tex)
- Poteet

Ah, yes...High school...they called it "high" school for a reason in 1972-74, because most people were.

Two stars that fast, I will refrain from anymore San Diego Chargers pics. I get the point.

Pitch black in the City of Contrasts.

Checking on apartments tomorrow (yes, it's true...). If I can find something affordable, I'll probably become Odessa's token liberal. Scary, eh?Odessa DOES have some "Liberals" although, you wouldn't recognize them as such. It only takes one really good, 40,000 feet tall West Texas Thunderhead to turn you into a conservative real quick.... Ya see, we all know how insignificant mankind is on this planet up next to the power of nature.

And once you learn that, everything else is easy because no longer will you buy into the vanity and the self-importance of the Liberal elite!

You really have missed the point, Apollo...

You can post all the Chargers pics you like - we don't hate the Chargers, we just don't care one way or the other about them...

I think they have beaten OHS and Permian pretty easily last few years...The rivalry between Midland HS and Midland Lee usually does not involve gunfire.

I remember the Chili Bowl in San Antonio as a yoot....Fox Tech and Central HS>..fights, stabbings, police SWAT teams...and that was just for the bands and cheerleaders - you should have seen the fans.

oh..yeah...Hey Chuckie Poo...what happened to your restaurant thread>?

I'd venture to say that if either team went up against Lakeland High School in Florida, the Dreadnaughts would still whoop both their asses... at least that would have been the case a few years ago. Right now I have no idea...

I can't remember the restaurant's name but it was on University and Grandview... great fajitas.
