I don't know why they waited so long...NBA scheduling makes no sense to me.

A little extra rest is probably a good thing...Manu is dinged up, Tony is always pretty beat up after a game...

Unfortunately, those are the ones who get all the airtime and adulation.

You just never hear about the ones who were valedictorian in high school, or scored 1360 on their SATs, or set up charitable foundations with their own money, or things like that...

ENJOY :)

you ever looked at a map of the world? Look at Texas with me just for a second. That picture, with the Panhandle and the Gulf Coast, and the Red River and the Rio Grande is as much a part of you as anything ever will be. As soon as anyone anywhere in the world looks at it they know what it is. It's Texas. Pick any kid off the street in Japan and draw him a picture of Texas in the dirt and he'll know what it is. What happens if I show you a picture of any other state? You might get it maybe after a second or two, but who else would? And even if you do, does it ever stir any feelings in you?

In every man, woman and child on this planet, there is a person who wishes just once he could be a real live Texan and get up on a horse or ride off in a pickup. There is a little bit of Texas in everyone.

Did you ever hear anyone in a bar go, 'Wow...so you're from Iowa? Cool, tell me about it?' Do you know why? Because no one gives a darn about Iowa.'

Texas is the Alamo. Texas is 183 men standing in a church, facing thousands of Mexican nationals, fighting for freedom, who had the chance to walk out and save themselves, but stayed instead to fight and die for the cause of freedom.

We send our kids to schools named William B. Travis and James Bowie and Davy Crockett, and do you know why? Because those men saw a line in the sand and they decided to cross it and be heroes.

John Wayne paid to do the movie himself . That is the Spirit of Texas.

Texas is Sam Houston capturing Antonio Lopez de Santa Ana at San Jacinto.

Texas is huge forests of Piney Woods like the Davy Crockett and Sam Houston National Forests.

Texas is breathtaking mountains in the Big Bend.

Texas is the unparalleled beauty of bluebonnet fields in the Texas Hill Country.

Texas is the beautiful, warm beaches of the Gulf Coast of South Texas.

Texas is the shiny skyscrapers in Houston and Dallas.

Texas is world record bass from places like Lake Fork.

Texas is Mexican foods like nowhere else, not even Mexico.

Texas is the Fort Worth Stockyards, Bass Hall, the Ballpark in Arlington and the Astrodome. (guess now the Reliant Stadium too).

Texas is larger-than-life legends like Michael DeBakey, Ann Richards, Denton Cooley, Willie Nelson, Buddy Holly, Gene Autry, Audie Murphy, Tommy Lee Jones, Waylon Jennings, Farrah Fawcet, Janis Joplin, Sandra Bullock, Kris Kristofferson, Tom Landry, Eva Longoria, Darrell Royal, ZZ Top, Eric Dickerson, Earl Campbell, Nolan Ryan, Sam Rayburn, Howard Hughes, and let's not forget GEORGE STRAIT!!!!!!!!
Texas is great companies like Dell Computer, Texas Instruments and Compaq, Bell Helicopter and LOCKHEED MARTIN AEROSPACE, Home of the F-16 Jet Fighter and the JSF Fighter.

Texas is NASA.

Texas is huge herds of cattle and miles of crops.

Texas is home to the most amazing sunsets of gold over an empty field.

Texas is hundreds of deer running around neighborhoods and fields.

Texas is skies blackened with doves and fields full of deer.

Texas is a place where towns and cities shut down to watch the local high school football game on Friday nights and for the Cowboys on Monday Night Football, and for the night In Old San Antonio River Parade in San Antonio.

To drive across Texas is to drive 1/3 of the way across the United States.

Texas is ocean beaches, deserts, lakes and rivers, mountains and prairies, and modern cities.

If it isn't already in Texas, you probably don't need it.

No one does anything bigger or better than it's done in Texas.

By federal law, Texas is the only state in the U.S. that can fly its flag at the same height as the U.S. flag. Think about that for a second. You fly the Stars and Stripes at 20 feet in Maryland, California, or Maine, and your state flag, whatever it is, goes at 17 feet. You fly the Stars and Stripes in front of Klein Oak High or anyplace else at 20 feet, the Lone Star flies at the same height - 20 feet. Do you know why? Because it is the only state that was a Republic before it became a state.

Also, being a Texan is as high as being an American down here. Our capitol is the only one in the country that is taller than the capitol building in Washington, D.C. and we can divide our state into five states at any time if we wanted to! We can become a republic again at any time the voters of Texas choose, and we included these things as part of the deal when we came on. That's the best part, right there.

Texas even has its own power grid!! And don't even lie to yourself... Did I mention Live music capitol of the world?

Wireline
May 21st, 2008, 1:10 pm
There has been some debate about the validity of us breaking into 5 states for some time...I would rather cede than split up, but that's a different thread.

Nice list, but you left off a couple of critical mass things...

- Texas has me
- Texas has you
- Texas can be a self sustaining sovereignty if need be...the other 49 states combined cannot make that claim.

Wife: "Nonsense, who said you were a better cook than me?"
Maria: "Your husband did."
Wife: "Oh."
Maria: "My third reason is that I am a better lover than you."
Wife (really furious now): "Did my husband say that as well?"
Maria: "No Senora, the gardener did."

Its not...however this is:

Today is Memorial Day...a day supposedly set aside to celebrate the lives and services of American warriors...the day in which we remember fallen comrades who died defending our rights to express ourselves, pray, and live our lives in pretty much any manner we choose. We also remember those who came home. Warriors are not just warriors during conflicts, peacetime warriors fought and sacrificed just as hard - just in different ways.

No one EVER returns from a battle of any kind without being changed in some fashion. No one I've ever met can just leave the mindset of being a warrior. All too many times, we just assumed warriors do their jobs and can transition back to 'normal' society at the blink of any eye - some seem to, some never can, nor should anyone have to.

I would pray that every American exercising any basic rights today will stop for just one moment, say a prayer for the fallen, and say thank you to those who came home. We are far from a perfect nation, yet there are people walking among us who have for whatever reasons battled then so others could work on fixing the problems we have at some other time...Today is not about politics, policies, or governments: today is about the men and women who served.

Thank a vet. Shake hands with a man or woman who served in wartime...in peacetime...overseas or stateside...remember, that if they had not done EXACTLY what they did, when they did it, everything we know today would be different.

To those on these boards currently serving on active duty or Gurad/Reserve staus: thank you!!!!! My heart swells with pride knowing you are there...to those on these boards who have served: Thank you!!! Doesn't matter what you did, you did it for all of us....

Welcome home, soldiers. We shed a tear of sadness for the fallen, and shed a tear of gratitude and pride for the returning. Thank you, men and women, for your service.

Really...nothing. I've been laying kind of low for 3 reasons

1. I don't have nearly the time anymore...
2. The resurgance of certain posters has made the entire board a pretty annoying place to be...
3. See #1.

That, and it would appear I am now officially fighting the summer flu...the one with the extremely sore throat, coughing, and a constant feeling like I just got hit by a semi truck. Can't afford to take down time, can't afford not to...

Catch 22.

- no...not yet anyway. I really can't afford to see a local guy, and the VA is 1) in Big Spring, and 2) always a 12-14 hour wait for walk ins....

like hammered bat ****...still pretty much unable to speak without sounding like a Frog from the Lil Rascals...fever down some...headache and cough about the same, chest congestion seems to start to break up in the middle of the night, then comes back by morning.

I had more people caringly yelling at me yesterday to slow down, go home, and get some rest, or I might end up "resting" a lot longer

But overall, I think I will survive...perhaps a trip to Doc In the Box, a shot in the ass with B-12 might be in order today

you do need to take care of yourself, but I also understand the not resting while there are things to do.....but your caring people were right to yell at you. ;)

maybe instead of being "grumpy", you should try being "doc" or even "sleepy"....;)

Sometimes its more fun just being grumpy...then when I get better, playing Doc (or Post Office) with enough vigor will envariably make anyone Sleepy....

hope your boy gets to feeling better....I'm tellin ya, this particular strain of whatever is the worst I've experienced...ever....

texan_rep

what *I* want to know is...

exactly how does one determine how horse **** or bat **** or any other kind of **** feels like after being hammered? What language does **** speak? Do the various types of **** have different languages, or different dialects? Are there sufficient common cultural referents that if the **** tells us how it feels after its hammered, we actually know what it means by what it says?

Wireline
June 4th, 2008, 11:18 am
To clarify - when referring to hammered bat **** or hammered horse ****, is the descriptive "hammered" referring to hammered as beaten by a blacksmith or carpenter, hammered as in totally inibriated, hammered as in dulcimer, or hammered as with the action devices on a piano?

And while you (we) are at it, just who the HELL is Cooter Brown, and why is used as a reference for intoxication?

melinda
June 4th, 2008, 11:26 am

And I would sooner slit my wrists than knowingly post about her...at least, not without making DAMN sure I made absolutely sure people knew who I was talking about and that I think the ground she walks on needs to be scraped up and disinfected...

I have no idea what his personality is like. I've never heard anything about that. I just know he looks like a horse.

I don't know why you immediately went from "regular" to a discussion of the state of his lower intestine. I also don't know why I'm not surprised you did.
