Proper use of the Photoshop trademark
Trademarks help protect corporate and product identity, and the Photoshop trademark is one of Adobe's most valuable trademarks. By following the below guidelines, you can help Adobe protect the Photoshop brand name.

The Photoshop trademark must never be used as a common verb or as a noun. The Photoshop trademark should always be capitalized and should never be used in possessive form or as a slang term. It should be used as an adjective to describe the product and should never be used in abbreviated form. The following examples illustrate these rules:

Trademarks are not verbs.

Correct: The image was enhanced using Adobe® Photoshop® software.
Incorrect: The image was photoshopped.

Just my peanuts, but......

Adobe should be thankful for the name recognition they get by people using it as a verb.

Just like with Xerox.

Xerox has similar trademark issues in trying to protect it's brand image.

What can I say... don't shoot the messenger... let's just say that I have to point it out. ;)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xerox

The word "xerox" is commonly used as a synonym for "photocopy" (both as a noun and a verb) in many areas; for example,"I xeroxed the document and placed it on your desk." or "Please make a xeroxed copy of the articles and hand them out a week before the exam". Though both are common, the company does not condone such uses of its trademark, and is particularly concerned about the ongoing use of Xerox as a verb as this places the trademark in danger of being declared a generic word by the courts. The company is engaged in an ongoing advertising and media campaign to convince the public that Xerox should not be used as a verb.[23][24]

To this end, the company has written to publications that have used Xerox as a verb, and has also purchased print advertisements declaring that "you cannot 'xerox' a document, but you can copy it on a Xerox Brand copying machine". Xerox Corporation continues to protect its trademark diligently in most if not all trademark categories. Despite their efforts, many dictionaries continue to mention the use of "xerox" as a verb, including the Oxford English Dictionary.

Thanks,

photo-shopped does not equal Photoshop.

Photoshopping is slang for the digital editing of photos.[12][13] The term originates from Adobe Photoshop, the image editor most commonly used by professionals for this purpose; however, other programs, such as Paint Shop Pro, Corel Photopaint, Paint.NET, or GIMP, may be used.[14] Adobe Systems, the publisher of Adobe Photoshop, discourages use of the term "photoshop" as a verb out of concern that it may undermine the company's trademark.[15]

Despite this, photoshop is widely used as a verb, both colloquially and academically, to refer to retouching, compositing, and color correction carried out in the course of graphic design, commercial publishing, and image editing.[16][17]

I am not about to open a can of worms where we have to delete / remove every single COMMONLY USED term that 'might', by some, be considered a trademark infringement. Shall I ban the use of Chevrolet, Ford, Toyota, etc?

Hi Lee,

Thank you for your review. Please understand that I had to request the change.

What next? They will be asking people to stop using the term "Adobe"? The public will have to use "Native American Compacted & Dried Clay Block" because some oversensitive purveyor of overpriced software decides they themselves originated the word?

Pass this one back.... For years around the country there were registered / trademarked businesses that carried banners like .... "Joe's PhotoShop" / "Mark's Photo Shop"

Adobe should quit infringing on those trademarks.
