"At the event, a Tribal Nations Conference hosted by the Department of Interior's Bureau of Indian affairs, the president thanked various staffers and offered a "shout-out" to "Dr. Joe Medicine Crow -- that Congressional Medal of Honor winner.""
First, the whole thing sounds disrespectful. Second, his comment demonstrates ignorance, as one does not "win" a CMH, one is a recipient of a CMH.
That he was doing all this a prelude to his comments on Ft. Hood shows a complete lack of reverence, and a lack of grasp of the gravity of the situation.

When someone is awarded the medal they've won it through their actions.
I agree that President Obama should have addressed the shooting situation first.

yeah when I heard "shout out" come out of his mouth, I couldn't believe it.
He has no clue about leadership.

He has no clue about leadership.
No? Our Obama, via his stellar and aggressive leadership has implemented the voting mandate of America which was to transform this nation into a gentle, compassionate, diverse and multiculturalistic, socialist and non-warlike society.
Moreover, he is highly respected and approved by most members of America's military, particularly its liberal and affirmative action beneficiaries.
No clue about leadership? Leadership is in the eye of the [political] beholder.
This is not a time for our most honorable and glorious nation to pout and brood about past politics. Every one must be enjoined and encouraged to cooperate with our new-era and progressive land.
Most honorable praise to our new leader!
Hail Obama; Viva Obama!
Gracias

The funny thing was that the guy DI NOT win the Congressional Medal of Honor, which is the highest award that can be earned by a serviceman.
He was awarded by OBAMA the Presidential Freedom Award
The teleprompter must have been on vacation that day

Additionally, there is no Congressional Medal of Honor. It is simply the Medal of Honor.

Joe Medicine Crow is not a recipient of the Medal of Honor. And The Medal is not "won". It is awarded.

I entered this thread to make that same correction/distinction, but you beat me to it. Thanks.

The TOTUS was miscalibrated that day. Expect PMEL to be tossed under the bus within 10 days.

PMEL  I haven't heard that in a while. Maybe the lab was unfamiliar with the TOTUS calibration requirements.

There was a thread on here a few months ago about Obama 'handing out' the medal to the family of the bereaved.
So it's not like he's the only one to make the mistake.
But as POTUS, he should know better.
