This is what ABC is saying:
12 Soldiers Killed and 31 Wounded in Fort Hood Shooting
Suspected Gunman Is Identified by ABC News as Major Malik Nadal Hasan
By EMILY FRIEDMAN
Nov. 5, 2009
Twelve people have been killed and 31 wounded in a shooting spree at a Texas military base by what officials believe was possibly carried out by an Army officer.
Gunman kills at least 7 and wounds 12 at Fort Hood. The suspected gunman was identified by ABC News as Major Malik Nadal Hasan.
The shooter was killed and two other suspects, who are also soldiers, have been apprehended, Lt. Gen. Robert W. Cone said.
The gunman used two handguns, Cone said. He wasn't sure if the shooter reloaded the weapons during the attack.
The general called the attack "a terrible tragedy, stunning." He said the community was "absolutely devastated."
The extent of the injuries of victims "varies significantly," according to Cone.
President Obama called the Fort Hood shootings a "horrific outburst of violence."
"It if difficult enough to lose" soldiers overseas, but said it is "horrifying that they should lose their lives at an Army base in the U.S.," he said.
The president said "my prayers are with the wounded and the families of the fallen."
Cone said the motive for the attack, which took place just after 1:30 p.m. CT, is unclear.
Fort Hood, located just 60 miles north from Austin, is the largest U.S. military installation in the world, and has suffered the greatest number of casualities of all American bases in the war on Iraq.
The military said today that "more than one shooter" opened fire in the Soldiers Readiness Processing Center and the Howze Theater on the base.
The processing center is where soldiers go to get last minute dental and medical clearance before going to war.
The Howze Theater was scheduled to hold a college graduation service this afternoon. According to a base newspaper, the Fort Hood newspaper, the ceremony was supposed to recognized soldiers and family members who had missed commencement ceremonies due to deployments.
Schools on the base has also been placed on lockdown. A message on Fort Hood's public affairs office Web site reads, "Organizations/units are instructed to execute a 100 percent accountability of all personnel. This is not a Drill. It is an Emergency Situation."
According to a source on the base, it is rare for firearms to be on the base because they are locked up.
Homeland Security said it is still gathering information and that the "Army is taking the lead" as of now. FBI agents from Waco and Austin, Texas, are being deployed to the scene.
An army spokesman said that unit commanders have been instructed to account for all of their personnel.
"The immediate concern is to make sure that all of our soldiers and family members are safe and that's what commanders have been instructed to do," said Jay Adams of First Army, Division West, located at Fort Hood.
The CounterTerrorist Unit said they have "no word" yet on whether this incident was terrorism-related.

Oh boy.....what a mess!! My prayers to those of the wounded and those killed.

I was on Ft Hood earlier today. In the area of the shootings. I had just left about 30 min. before it started. A friend called me at 1:35 to ask if I was still on post. Her husband is a first responder and he had just called her with news about a mass shooting on Post. What upsets me now is that our President was just on TV to comment about this but did not get to those remarks until he was nearly 2 min. into his comments. It appeared to us here that we were not the first thing on his mind. The local TV station I was watching cut him off in fact with the comment that they thought he was going to speak about the events that had happened on Ft. Hood. He did later on get to that but it hit us here like a ton of bricks that he really did not seem to care.

Let's not fly off the handle on that yet.
It may or may not be religiously motivated.
For all we know his wife may have walked out on him.
If it is terrorism, it will be handled accordingly.
If it is not terrorism, but we start screaming terrorism prematurely, we come off looking like a bunch of idiots.
Let's WAIT and let the investigators do their job before we make premature conclusions.

We're installing CAC-card readers and cameras at all of the entrances to the building I work in at Camp Lejeune. We're not even safe on our own military installations anymore.

The news is reporting that the shooter (the one we know about now) was a psychiatrist and recent convert to Islam.
Before the facts came out about ten minutes ago, the media restrained itself from using the I-word or M-word (OK, fine and good), but apparently they were freely speculating on whether this was a result of post-traumatic stress disorder. Interesting.
I hope the families of the victims make it through what's going to be a very difficult time.

Later it will come out that the Major did not want to fight against his "Brothers" in Iraq. I was watching another station and there was a doctor that stated that combat veterans have a higher account of abuse upon their return. Needless to say, that iritated me. As a combat veteran (Army) in Vietnam, I took offense to this. 1 - The Major was a shrink with no combat experience. 2 - He was single 3- He could have just simply resigned his commission rather than kill 12 and wound 31. My heart goes out to the survivors that were wounded and to the families of those that were murdered.

Theodore Roosevelt's ideas on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN in 1907.
'In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language.. and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.'

This guy was a Major who had been in the military since before 9/11. Apparently he joined after high school.
This is really terrible...
He's been working at Walter Reed and seeing and hearing a lot of crazy stuff apparently.
I just pray for the families of these people. I know a lot of hell can come from this.

Because cashiering a Muslim officer for fanatic cult activities would be one hell of a nasty political hot potato, of course -- they'd want the case harder than diamonds before they acted.
Just like it would be for some officer sucked into the Koresh cult, for example, or suspected of neo-nazi skinhead fanaticism.
And the defense is always a claim of persecution because of ideological bigotry among the coworkers.
Fanaticism happens in every ideology under the sun -- and when it happens, violence can result.
Because fanatics are essentially insane and lose sight of the single most basic law of all human existence: Thou Shalt Not Commit Murder -- no matter what the provocation you think you've got, DON'T MURDER OTHER PEOPLE
Forget that one most essential law of civilization, like this guy did, and you become a freaked out killer waiting to happen.
It's not this guy's belief in allah and the koran that caused the freak out.
It was losing sight of that one most basic law for all humanity.
And that can and does happen to anybody, regardless of their ideology.

I brought up the fact yesterday in another thread regarding the continuing domestic threat that radical islam poses for this country. I was soundly pounced upon and subsequently apologized because there were American soldiers dead. However, I truly believe this is a continuing threat to the country. My question is this: will President Obama 1. emphasize the threat radical Islam poses or 2. emphasize the fact that those of us who are victims must show tolerance for persons of that religion (he will probably weasel through it my asking for both. However, "how" he does this will be telling). I am not optimistic.

ALL ENEMIES FOREIGN AND DOMESTIC.....PERIOD
Until we get that right and under one standard, we can expect more of the same. Either acts such as these committed by any one regardless of race, nationality, color etc are terroristic or not. You can not call one terrorism and make an excuse for someone else.
This bum and others like him deserve the same fate....a quick painful death.

Treadmill we must go back to the basics on this problem and take a look at the conversion of John Lindh and Adam Gadahn's conversion to radical islam as well as take a look at Daveed Gartenstein Ross' slip toward radical islam and his becoming an Apostate.
If one is interested, Daveed has a video and audio lecture free on ITUNES and has a book that should be in anyones library.

Perhaps his mental state was not aligned,
While an intern at Walter Reed, Hasan had some "difficulties" that required counseling and extra supervision, said Dr. Thomas Grieger, who was the training director at the time.
Grieger said privacy laws prevented him from going into details but noted that the problems had to do with Hasan's interactions with patients.
and maybe the ball was dropped because of progressive tolerance,
But, more recently, federal agents grew suspicious.
At least six months ago, Hasan came to the attention of law enforcement officials because of Internet postings about suicide bombings and other threats, including posts that equated suicide bombers to soldiers who throw themselves on a grenade to save the lives of their comrades.
They had not determined for certain whether Hasan is the author of the posting, and a formal investigation had not been opened before the shooting, said law enforcement officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to discuss the case.

Hopeless cowards living in Never Never Land Fantasy World haven't a clue of the destruction they're allowing.
And I'm talking about the destruction of innocent MUSLIM kids, more even than non-Muslims -- kids sucked into Death Cult Fanaticism because cowards refuse to confront those cults and stop the suckering of fools into self-destruction.
God help the Muslim Community, too -- because nobody, not even the Muslim adults themselves -- are willing to Stand and Defy the Death Cult worshipers of Satanic slaughter and enslavement.
