How does one justify overseeing the highest property and income tax in the nation as Jon Corzine has? What does the Gov. tell the people of this state when the taxes are due to go up? What are the common reasonings?

Probably the cost of government.
NJ has an interesting system where the Executive and the legislature are challenged by the state's Supreme Court, a body which takes a very active role in determining state policy, especially with respect to costly policies like housing and education.
We left NJ for Georgia six years ago, although to be honest the cost of living and the cost of government weren't issues for us then.
I understand that there's a great flight of wealth from the state as those who can, move out, leaving a poorer remainder to handle the unchanging costs of government, many of which have been mandated by the judicial branch.
I'm confident that a Republican governor would have suffered the same fate as Corzine.
