I don't care if it's for halloween or not! There are also pics of her wearing a pink bikinni to some awards show. What a shame!

People who let their children run the decision making in the home because they are too lazy to parent shouldn't bother having kids. They need to get a dog. Better yet a cat. A dog will at least follow commands, a cat sees those as suggestions and prefers to ignore them.

nah ive seen dogs run peoples entire households before. Its pretty embarassing when you let your dog run all over you. You really were not fit out for this society.

That's pretty bad when a dog runs the place.

Parenting is hard work. You have to learn to say no. Guess that's too much for some people to handle.

C'mon Sammie, work with me. Are you looking at the same short dress/skirt I'm looking at? Her pink bikini she wore to a show was more revealing than that. Even the most liberal-minded- live- and- let- live folks are commenting saying that it is not appropriate for a 9yro!

It is sad. The Cyrus girls, Lohan sister, the clothing lines by Beyonce, LL Cool J, the tv and music that is targeting them. When I was a kid I wanted to be like the adults around me, but they had enough common sense to realize there is only so much time you can be a kid. I wish parents today had the same sense.

Why do parents allow their little girls to dress like tramps?

Because it's not easy to get them into rap videos if they don't start learning early.

Well, it certainly does not excite me in the least (and it doesn't take a lot to do that.) So she is showing some thigh and her knees... 9-year olds do that all the time. It's not like she is all dolled up to look much older and sexually alluring like those little kid beauty contestants.

Not really commenting on that dress, as the Cyruses don't live in the reality that the rest of us do.

Why do clothing manufacturers make clothes like that for little girls. I wanted a bathing suit for my four-year-old this summer. She's tall and skinny, and the toddler-sized bathing suits didn't fit her properly. The bathing suits in the girls section that weren't bikinis were skimpy. I finally found one that was appropriate after going to three different stores... in the toddler section. It's meant for a kid with more baby fat than my daughter has, but it was the best I could do. Why are the bathing suits in the girls section (the XS size) cut in almost a thong style?

My middle daughter has a similar problem with any sort of shorts. They make boys' shorts that go down to the knees, but girls' shorts are designed to barely cover their bottoms. My daughter has super-long legs and arms, and I look everywhere for shorts that fit with the school dresscode of going below her fingertips. Even the longest ones barely do that on her... and she's six. Usually I have her wear a skirt and leggings underneath. We're in Phoenix and the first three months of school and the last two months of school it's too hot to wear pants.

Or how about those shorts that were for preteen/teens with things like juicy written across the bottom. Or underwear with similar phrases. It's unreal. The manufacturers of these items are disgusting, but there is obviously a market for that ****. In the end, parents have the responsibility to teach young children to respect their own bodies.

when my daughter was in the 2nd grade, I was at the school for a

I walked right past the elementary school cheerleaders practice routine.
all that was missing was the stripper pole. and they were in low cut
shorts and exposed stomaches.

Listen, those things are cut so badly that even if someone isn't 'fat' it can make em look fat.

Low rise jeans stink.

Tramp wear for little people, stinks.

To this child? I'm sorry, youi're nine years old and no you don't get to wear that.

Juicy on one's butt? Not at any age.

Thongs and cracks? Truly, it won't be attractive, no one will swoon, most will snicker and t hink that you look like an idiot.

Mimi, thigh length shorts from Target. Skorts.

Bathing suits? Lands End tanks or tankinis.

Truly a pox on everyone in the fashion industry. Could they manufacture things for ALL OF THE REST OF US that isn't a) rich b) a size 0 and c) not 20.

Thank you.

If you knew me in real life, you would know that one of the main things my friends grilled me on was the fact that I like fat chicks.

I'm a college student. I see many different kinds of people every day on campus. 90% of the female student population at my place don't need to worry about their weight.

The thigh length shorts from Target are too short on her--at least for the school dresscode standard. For the most part, that's what I buy for around the weekends. They really don't look too short, it's just the way she's built that has her fingertips to her knees.

Do you sew? Maybe you could take some khaki pants or capris and shorten them to the right length?

You don't have to 'go' to Lands End, it's online: www.landsend.com (http://www.landsend.com).

Always start on the 'overstock' pages, where you can find end of season things on sale. :D

Good for you. I like seeing parents actually parent, which unfortunately seems to be getting rarer and rarer these days.

One could argue the cause of 'differences in style' based on generation, but there is a difference between style and exploiting sexuality, especially with children so young. Little girls are constantly being targeted by companies willing to dress them up as sex objects, and with some of the complacent parents out there, is it a wonder that we have such problems with teen pregnancy and underage sex?

I'll definitely check it out next year.

As for me sewing... I've tried a few times to shorten some pants... they never come out quite right. I don't have a sewing machine, so it's all hand-done. I'm fine if I can make cut-offs, but any actual hemming and it doesn't work so well. (And she does have some cut-offs. So does my son. The sad thing is, it's become ''normal''. When you see somethiing enough times, it becomes normal to the see'r but it doesn't make it acceptable, or age appropriate.

There is a difference between having an opinion and actively trying to impose it on someone else so yyour statement doesn't wash. Opinions are like *******s, everyone has one. You just expressed your's.

The idea of kids being offerred over the top fashion is NOT NEW. If you've spent any time at all on parenting boards, you would hear this from EVERY TYPE OF PARENT WITH ANY TYPE OF BACKGROUND. I've heard more bitching, complaining and ****ed off women since I gave birth over 12 years ago than I can shake a stick at. NO ONE IS HAPPY WITH THIS. Not the conservatives, not the liberals, not the independents not the whatevers. They're all griping about kid's fashion. Trying to make them into sluts or mini-adults. Bemoaning the difficulties of trying to find decent, moderately priced, quality, age appropriate clothing. Things that make kids look like kids.

Want to see an ugly conversation? Listen to a bunch of mothers talking about Ambercrombie making thong underwear for seven year olds with suggestive rhinestone sayings on them. Better wear a flack jacket if you want to wander into that pack while casuallly saying 'it's not a big deal'. :))

It's the fashion industry and the idiots that support them that are doing this. Just one more way to try to yank a buck out of our wallets.

Truly from a personal point of view, the work of being a parent trying to find age appropriate clothing for your young kid is a lot of work in this current environment. And I'd bet a paycheck that there are lot more women out there who decry this situation, then the clueless who go 'ain't no big deal, aren't they cute?'

I've just heard about it too many times for that not to be true. I was once literally accosted at an adult birthday party by a woman who asked me where I got my daughter's stuff. Turns out, she's so frustrated by the situation that this is her normal icebreaker when she meets some new woman. this was a liberal woman, from liberal California, literally losing it behind shopping for her three girls. (Ah felt her pain.)

Once your girls get past a certain size, clothing shopping becomes guerilla warfare with the Paris Hilton school of crapwear.

Nobody's suggesting a law to limit kid's clothes, they are merely expressing their opinions. That's the difference here. If liberals opposed something like this, they'd be suggesting a law. When conservatives do, we just complain.

You do understand that complaining about someone's choices isn't taking away their freedoms. It is just expressing your own freedom.

MTV

The problem isn't MTV, the problem is what MTV has become.

Music Television. When's the last time someone saw a 2 consecutive full music videos on that network?

Nowadays we have moronic shows on it that champion idiocy. Look at that show about sweet 16s. The episode guides alone made me hope for a son when I get older.

I heard something real funny on the show Flash Forward:

"When you have a son, you only have to worry about one penis. With a girl, you have to worry about all of them."

That said, the pic in the OP is rather disgusting.

"Over my dead body" would be the only words out of my mouth if my daughter dressed like that at age... well, I think 25 is OK.

The thigh length shorts from Target are too short on her--at least for the school dresscode standard. For the most part, that's what I buy for around the weekends. They really don't look too short, it's just the way she's built that has her fingertips to her knees.

I've never gone to Land's End... I'll look there next year if I can find one near me.

I feel your pain honey...I do. All three of my girls got daddy's height (Dad's 6'4..I'm a shrimp at 5'2...I'm a midget amongst giants! lol)

So here's my money saving tip...go to your local thrift shops..find jeans that fit in all the area's you want it too..just don't worry about length. Take those suckers home..cut them to the length you want..and hem. great opportunity to teach your daughter how to hem..nice and easy project that will teach her how to hem just about anything. Saved me not only time..but a heck of a lot of trouble.

Target was my second saving grace...not the little girl section..but the woman's section..xs to small woman's tops that are age appropriate and will cover those long arms like a normal shirt should. Same for skirts...xs womans was more appropriate then girls section clothing was....it helped to complete my daughters wardrobes. They were always age appropriate and dressed modestly.

As too little girls running around dressed as streetwalkers....:wall:...not just no but heeeeelllll no! We can't complain about pedophiles and the dangers of those sickos in our society and then turn around and help them out by dressing our little girls like something out of some pervs demented mind! I mean duh! :wall:

I did not read the whole thread, so forgive me if this has already been said, but I feel that whatever the kids are wearing is the sole responsibility of their parent(s). If you see your kid dressing like a whore, then make her march to her room and change.

It's a culture of idiocy, that's the problem. Culture can't really be turned off, per se.

There's one thing though. Culture isn't just what one sees on tv. It has to do with environment, not only at home, but at school, and outside of both. For it to be completely changed, wouldn't that require moving to a different part of the country?

That is one way to do it.

We prefer to stay actively involved with our children instead. Even the simple nightly family dinner goes a long way.

Just looking at youth in any day and age, some go with the flow, some push it further, some stay out of it. Wonder why some are able to stay out of it.

Trust me, mom was VERY involved when I was in school all the way through high school. Heck she threatens me with coming to LSU if I don't call her often.

I don't care if it's for halloween or not! There are also pics of her wearing a pink bikinni to some awards show. What a shame!

It's awful, isn't it? I gag every time I see the thong panties in the little girls clothing section in the stores.

The tramp look for little girls is popular not only because the girls think it's cool... but a lot of parents think it's cute. I've been in the stores and watched other moms going gaga over how cute is was for their little girl to look like the latest celebrity tramp.

My daughter is 20 now. I'm so glad she's older now. When she was younger she wanted the tramp look stuff because all the other girls had it. I refused to buy it. So shopping was horrible. It always ended is a fight 'cause I was just mean and would not let her look like a tramp.

I hate that the culture puts such presure on the children and parents.

I learned what a "tramp stamp" was from my daughters when they were young teens... and their opinion of them was not favorable. Children generally learn their basic values by the time they are 10... that is the risk that a parent takes by endorsing "loose" moral activity and participation in current fashion trends in their younger children. While I do not find the costume in the OP picture particularly offensive, it is close enough to the line that I would not have allowed my daughters to wear such a thing at Halloween without a clear message that it was not acceptable except for such an occasion.

When you think about it, most Halloween costumes portray a figure that is much older than a child. Making sure the child knows the difference between "pretend" and real life is appropriate with any such costume.

Personally, I think Billy Ray Cyrus should be arrested for Crimes Against Humanity. First for unleashing Achey Breaky Heart on the world, and then for using his underage daughter to pound the last nail into the coffin of Rock 'n Roll. Miley Cyrus is everything that is wrong with Disney, Walmart and commercial corporate music.
Now that Miley is getting old, he's training his younger daughter to be a corporate sex-drone in order to continue marketting his products to younger girls (and creepy older men).
He has to be stopped.

Not necessarily.

Parents control what is seen and heard in the home.

Parents control what is done at the school, to some extent.

Parents teach their children core values.

Parents expose their children to cultural influences that will not result in a desire to imitate the thug life.

Parents turn the ON/OFF switch to the OFF position when necessary, and prepare their children for life in this way.

True.
My parents wouldn't let me watch The Simpsons until I was about 13 or 14.

Many do. Some don't. It's unfortunate that those that don't, don't.

Some do, some allow the influences to come in. Is there a correlation between that and the prison population? $50 says there is.

They did that for a bit until I was older and could handle the material. Heck mom's still upset 18 months later about me buying Grand Theft Auto IV, and I was 19 when I bought it!

Wrong... If the parents are present they are teaching their children core values whether they realize it or not. Even if a parent makes no attempt to teach their kids right from wrong, they are teaching them core values.
