I've not heard Christmas Carols 'yet' on the radio...but I've seen Halloween stuff (decorations, costumes etc) along side Thanksgiving decorations, place ware, etc with the beginnings of Christmas decorations, gifts...green and red all within the same section of stores.

Now I'm all for being organized....heck, even like to get my Christmas cards made out and sent off the day after Thanksgiving...but dear flying frogs! Let me at least enjoy one season festivity at a time! Seeing a scary mask or skelly with decaying hand right next to a Tom the Turkey dinner place setting for 12 which is right next too brightly decorated Christmas paper and red bows, tree lights and stand up doll like Santa's is just too weird for me.

I'm so not ready to begin hearing carols where ever I go..in stores, on the radio, in the bank...not yet...Thanksgiving Day needs to come and go before I can even deal with the dreaded barrage of holiday music. :wall:

You know, it really isn't. This irritates me. Especially since it has nothing to do with the holiday itself, they are just trying to extend the shopping season.

I hate how the intent of holidays has been perverted in the country.

Me too. That is the rule in this house. NOTHING Christmas is taken out, no DVD's yet, no music until after Thanksgiving.

The one thing I do is buy some presents early and hide them so I can spread the cost around a couple of months. We have property taxes due 10 days before Christmas so I have to budget around in order to get most things bought before I have to start getting the tax money together.

Me too. 103.7 KVIL in Dallas-Fort Worth started playing Christmas Music on November 1, guess who isn't going to listen to them this December

Christmas Music should never be played before Thanksgiving. Personally I don't like listening to it until December. Same goes with Christmas themed advertisements. Saw the Christmas Overstock.com commericial as well as a Christmas Toys r Us commericial and Christmas Zales commercial in the same commercial break yesterday as I watched TV.

I can't wait for WMAG to start playing Christmas music. I look forward to it every year. Actually saw a Christmas themed commercial on TV last night, although for the life of me I can't remember what it was advertising. Either way, right after Halloween the Christmas stuff starts. Shoot I used to put my Christmas lights up on Thanksgiving and decorate the rest of the house the day after.

Those will go up on New Year's Day, thereby ensuring that between Halloween and February 14, there will be only one week (between Christmas and New Years) in which the diamond industry will not be drowing my TV in saccharine ads equating love with expensive rocks and rings.

(They haven't come up with an ad campaign for "Halloween diamonds" yet, have they?)

Just for the record, I'm a steenking librul and I'm Jewish. I don't have an issue with Christmas songs or decorations, and being from Chicago I even like the snow even though we never get it in Texas. What I do see is retailers getting ready for a potentially weak season gearing up early and drowning us in the holidays a month earlier than they normally do.

I was commenting on the scheduling issue and the fact that it would have been nice to enjoy Halloween or Thanksgiving before having the decorations put up. It's also a little silly because when they went up it was still in the 80's here. I mean come on, it's not winter until it's 75 or below here. Brrr...:))

Try not to paint so-called "libs" with such a broad brush. I don't want to ruin anyone's fun and I certainly would never persecute someone based on their religious beliefs for what should be obvious reasons.

The wife puts up decorations about the 1st of November inside of the house. She is from a family of 13, and was born during the depression. She missed out on Christmas when she was a kid, so she is making up for it now, and she is happy. If Mama is happy, everybody is happy.

I don't think that Christmas music and decorations should used until after Thanksgiving. We need to remember and teach our children the importance of Thanksgiving. I remember waking up on Thanksgiving morning to the wonderful smells that filled the house. Breakfast was hardly eaten because you wanted to save your appetite for the delicious meal to come. Waiting for the relatives to arrive was almost unbearable, so when no one was looking you tasted bits and pieces of the meal ahead of time. When the family finally arrived we would sit down to a feast that lasted all day and we knew what we were thankful for. We were thankful to be living in this GREAT nation. Our parents and grandparents were proud that we would be going to college, something they could only dream of. My grandparents came to America and never looked back. They would talk about "the old country", but never again called it "MY COUNTRY". For them America now became "my country" and they couldn't be more proud to say it. They came here and they LOVED America. They worked hard and reaped their due rewards. They did not expect America to take care of them. They took care of America. They were America.

Same here. You always knew it was thanksgiving when certain serving bowls and what not were getting washed a ready a few days prior to the gluttony.

We used to have the whole family at my grandparents. So many people you couldn't sit around a table. All us cousins upstairs playing cards and games until dinner, then spending the rest of the day playing board games and more cards while porking down pieces of pie and pretty much grazing until we fell asleep.

Ah, the memories.

Sounds like Thanksgiving when I was a kid!!! Me, my mom, my dad, my grandparents, aunts & uncles would all be at our house. I remember getting off the school bus on Wednesday afternoon happy as could be that I was out of school for a couple of days. Then Thanksgiving morning, when mom would cook a huge breakfast, then later in the day we would have dinner, around 4 or so. My uncle would always want to be the official "honey baked ham" tester, and mom would yell at him to stay out of the kitchen!

Mom still puts on a dog and pony show, as my cousin calls it, at holiday dinners, but I don't think we'll be doing much this year. My family is so scattered all over the country that getting together in one place is impossible. Plus mom just had surgery the other day, and its gonna take a while to recover from that. But my cousin and his girlfriend are coming, and he's a gourmet chef, so we may end up having a fancy dinner after all. I miss fighting my uncle for the turkey legs though!

Not officially... but they could start advertising for LifeGem.

The LifeGemŽ is a certified, high-quality diamond created from the
carbon of your loved one as a memorial to their unique life, or as a symbol of your personal and precious bond with another.

The carbon can be gathered from a lock of hair, so that a gem made from the carbon of a living person is possible... but typically, when one thinks LifeGem... the carbon is gathered from one's cremated remains.

Closest thing to a Halloween Diamond as I can think of.

Christmas carols make me hate Christmas.
That and working retail...
Now, now...

I worked in Toys "R" Us for three "seasons," and I found it fun and exciting.

True, during the first stint, I resented the fact that as the only Jew in the store, I was made to be in charge of the Christmas music. Still, I got to choose which Christmas CDs I played.

But as for working retail... I'm also one of the people who exist who can smile for more than 8 hours straight. (What scared some people is that I smiled and meant it.) Some people are truly scary, but if you are enough of a people person, you can defuse almost any situation.

Ask me to tell you about my episode with unicorns...

It is interesting and entertaining to find out how much money people are willing to spend. It is almost as entertaining as finding out what people will spend money ON.

However, one thing almost made me physically ill: the toy and cartoon themed Christmas trees and stockings. Look - I realize that the trees and stockings are meant to be sentimental and remind people of good feelings. But is a pink Barbie tree, or a blue "Rudolph" tree (so named for the holiday special that's over 30 years old - the cartoon is a golden oldie, but the tree? Ugh...), or the lavender "Disney Princess" tree, or the red "Spiderman" tree...

I realize that Christmas has been made into a marketing bonanza, but something about that seems to me to be obscene.

I am blessedly thankful that when Toys "R" Us finally remembered Chanuka (a day or two after the start of it, but whatever), the only thing they really had was a few simple aluminum menorahs, candles, a few dreidles, chocolate gelt, and wrapping paper with a menorah print. Oh, and a video of the Rugrats Chanukah special. But beyond that, I'm glad that Chanukah was by and large forgotten by Toys "R" Us. Truly.
