My menu is the same as yours minus the baked bird and yams. Neither my daughter or myself like yams. We over do the cranberries to compensate.

I think it would be cool to start a thread for all us bird fryers to share our marinade injection recipes we use.

My family is doing the traditional Thanksgiving stuff, but since they put turkey juice in everything, I can't eat it.

So, I am making:
Palak Paneer
Turkey free stuffing (love stuffing!)
Badam Ka Halwa
Chilli Paneer
Sindhi Kadhi

Most of my family has not had Indian food- so, I'm taking some up to the City with us for Thanksgiving.

We haven't discussed it yet. I'll probly make some pies and with a little luck we'll just stay here at home for thanksgiving.

But more than likely we'll end up seeing in-laws and the whole day will suck.

i love thanksgiving....... i love to cook and we have two kitchen in the house....

food and football and the closest relative lives over 1000 miles away.........i can wear sweats and a comfy shirt all day.......

i will be doing a roasted turkey (i cook in a paper bag to keep it juicy) with a cornbread sausages stuffing
confetti corn (although i turn it more into a pudding than the tradition confetti corn)
garlic cheese potatoes
green bean casserole
sweet potatoes
roasted brussel sprouts
cranberry sauce (although i will now look up a cranberry orange chutney recipe.. thanks bob :) )

for desserts, i am doing sugar coated roasted pecans and peach cobbler (everyone in the house hates pumpkin)

once i stip the turkey after its done, i will save the bones to make a turkey stock i use as a base for leftovers (only 4 people are eating so we have alot of left overs, but i love to cook)

I myself will be making sweat potato casserole.
I imagine we will have turkey
stuffing
green bean casserole
home made mashed potatoes
orange fluff
rolls
olives
pickles
cranberry sauce straight out of the can ;)

Then everybody brings something for desert, some favorites are pecan pie, apple pie with a brown sugar crisp type top on it.

cranberry sauce (although i will now look up a cranberry orange chutney recipe.. thanks bob :) )You're welcome. Even with the juiciest, tastiest turkey, why settle for an ordinary condiment?

agreed, plain cranberry was always kind of a let down for me....

i have found 3 cranberry orange chutney recipes, so just have to decide on which one......

It's a tradition in my little part of Houston. Several guys set up smokers and stay up all night drinking beer or tea and tending to their own smoked turkeys. I'll be brining a fresh bird and smoking with my neighbors this year.

--Corn bread stuffing (wife's family recipe)
--Green bean casserole (who can resist the onions)
--Sweet potatoes with brown sugar and pecans
--Whole grain stuffing (new this year because of the diabetes)
--Fresh steamed veggies (again because of the diabetes)
--Apple crisp, cheese cake, pecan pie
--All followed by a good brisk walk.

Ever since we saw that episode of "Romancing the Bird" with Alton Brown on The Food Network, we brine our turkey for Thanksgiving. It is the best we ever had. (you can link to it on the Food Channel website).
So, for the menu:
Brined turkey
Greek dressing (it's delicious -- made with ground round, ground sausage, diced sweet potatoes, diced white potatoes, raisins, pecans, white bread crumbs, wine and broth)
Mashed potatoes and gravy
Cranberry salad
Green beans w/buttered almonds
Relish tray
Orange/coconut ambrosia
Yeast rolls
Pecan pie, apple pie
Alka Seltzer
