A question for potheads

Ok potheads, I need to know what pot smells like.

My neighbor is an admitted pot smoker, and I keep smelling this skunky smell coming from that direction. It happens too often to actually be a skunk.

Not a pot head but had the same with a neighbor. Her living room always had this weird sweet smell. Hard to describe but like the stink of propane mixed with a scented candle or something.

I used to hang around a lot of jazz musicians and did not smoke pot.
The odor ws distinct and intense. Like burning wet grass only stronger.
I didn't smoke until I had researched the topic (Including the LaGuardia Report).
Since I started smoking myself the smell is not nearly as intense.

I honestly don't know how anyone can smoke something that nauseates me just by the smell. It's worse than tobacco smoke.

I'll take the linger of tobacco over the nausea that the smell of pot induces in me. Its almost as bad as getting sprayed by a skunk smell nausea.

It sounds like it. It depends on the strain, some are known for "skunkyness".

Is your neighbor's smoking a problem for you?

I'm being serious when I tell you that most pot heads are eager to get along with their neighbors.

If you want them to keep the smell inside, if you want to hang around them and smell it out of curiosity, go talk to them. If there are other neighbor issues that need discussing, the average pot head is friendly and willing to work with you.

If you want them to stop. :)) Its probably not going to happen.

I've smelled pot, it does NOT smell like skunk (has also smelled skunk UP CLOSE). Pot has a earthy but kinda sweet smell. Skunky is tangy smelling.....you sure it's pot he's smothing and not something else?

I've never touched the stuff, but actually like the way it smells. Got plenty of opportunity to smell it at the Gov't Mule show on Thursday night in Ithaca.

To me it smells a lot like burning grass or burning herbs. I definitely wouldn't say that it smells like skunk.

It's like BBQ, the nastier it is, the better it is, haven't touched it in years but once a friend of mine grew some and it smelled like chicken ****, two tokes and you were laughing your ass off.

Grew up in a house of skunk. Some can definitely smell that funky, but it's more often like pine trees to me.

I think you guys are talking about two different things. How it smells when its growing, and how it smells when its burning. When its growing, it can definitely give off a skunkish type of smell, namely the Kush type varietals. At least thats what I've read.

Cutting to the chase here, if you smell a pungent, skunky herby smell in your own yard, then you're not smelling them smoking good weed. You're smelling them growing it.

Not a pothead, but it smells like patchouli to me. (So glad that the 70s are over, I cannot tell you. That fashion fad was nasty.)

It's one of those things that once you identify it accurately once, you won't forget it. I have multiple ones like that from my nursing days that if I were blind and smelled it, I could identify it. Like amniotic fluid or... (a few that I'm not going to mention).

I doubt she wants to keep the smell in the house. She has two kids in there.

For anyone that cares, the person next door is a woman. She's probly about 30 with two kids and can't keep a man around to save her life.

I know she smokes pot because she told my wife she does.

OK. I'm not even a pothead, but I also didn't just fall off the back off a tomato truck.

A lot of good weed smells kinda skunky. That is the species known as 'cannabis indica', aka "Kush", from the Kush mountains in Afghanistan, where it is the native species. It is popular with growers because it is compact and bushy and gives a high yield for a small growing area, which is why its popular with indoor growers. It has more of a "stupid" body kind of high, i.e. the stupid kind of dumb high as portrayed in the media. Most stoners don't really look for that. The kind of sparkly, uplifting 'high' they want is generally found in the 'cannabis sativa' species, which tends to be a much longer, lankier plant, which also means that if you're growing for money, its a crappy choice to grow, especially indoors. Most modern strains are successful, stabilized cross breeds of indica like production with sativa like user properties, but they almost all retain the characteristic skunky smell of the indica parent.

Now after a little more info, I doubt they're growing, probably something else. And its certainly not a meth lab. Meth labs smell like cat pee.

I haven't smoked weed in years...but I've been around it plenty...I guess I'm weird because I actually like the smell. Kind of a combination of freshly mowed lawn and brownies. :D

Me too... I love skunk cabbage... it was a great play thing as a kid and the smell of it brings back very good memories and to me, the smell of road-kill skunk is exactly like skunk cabbage. Although I will admit, I have never smelled skunk up close and in person. There may be a odor density threshold where it would go beyond pleasure and into offensive.

I don't know how to describe it but you know it when you smell it, it has a distinct smell to it. We went to a concert a few weeks ago at the stadium and there was some wind and I smelled it and knew right away someone was smoking it.

Different things can affect the smell such as the delivery method(bong, joint, pipe, blunt, etc) additives and the type. Most will have a skunky smell to them that varies from strain to strain and potency, but if they are also smoking large quantities of cigarettes or burning incense it can cover the smell.
