We have over 500,000 new job losses in the last WEEK and they keep telling us the recession is over? That the stimulus plan worked? That we are not still in a downwards spiral?

How stupid do they think we are?

Is that as low as they could work the numbers?

The emergency is over. Obama got elected and the banks got their money.

Why did you think this was about jobs?

Ok, I am sorry, I misunderstood. The jobless claims rose to...

WASHINGTON--First-time claims for state unemployment benefits rose in the latest week after back-to-back declines, the Labor Department reported Thursday.
The number of initial claims in the week ending Oct. 17 rose 11,000 to 531,000. It's the highest level since the week ended Sept. 26.

Good.. Since it's over we don't need any more bailouts, stimulus bills, or cap and trade. Right? I mean... It's over so we can all just get our own health insurance through our new employers right?

Bob Brinker from Money Talk aired last Saturday, 17Oct09, and said the recession was over, granted growth was like .08 something but that the shrinking had stopped.
It was not robust growth he allowed, certainly nothing like we experienced under tax cuts...for instances.
(just tried to google it for possible link ...still searching ...at work can't do much more research)

At the same time I don't know if you can call .08 growth ...just that the economy didn't drop noticably more.

Huh, the only oen from a government official says "likely over". That's not the same as over of course. Any links to an actual administration official saying "the recession is over". Otherwise, you're choosing to listen to people who may or may not know what they're talking about.

Interesting theory, but clearly as someone who doesn't work for the administration, this is just an opinion.

There is very strong evidence that the recession is over.

That doesn't mean jobs are coming back and it doesn't preclude a double-dip. It simply means that the current trough has been reached.

do you get dizzy from spinning that much? i'll bet you were one of the ones, bashing many for using the technical defintion of a recession

the "growth" is all govt spending , there is no consumption by the consumer because he is unemployed or scared to death of losing his job

jobless recovery YAY and with higher taxes and electricity bills to boot, aint hope and change grand!

and lol on Biden , depression /recession/ stimulus working? which is it today? he must have gone to the wrong website number to get the talking points

530,000 more jobs lost, 530,000 consumers who will be spending a lot less

unless Obama has a lot in his "stash" for all of them?

Eh, What would you consider the "technical" definition of a recession? Don't worry, I can keep up.

Actually, the increases have been in nonresidential structures, services, exports and both defense and nondefense spending.

Yes, a jobless recovery. Most recent recoveries have been so, most especially the 2001 recession that didn't see positive job creation until more than two years after it ended.

that's because the "technical" definition you guys were using to say we weren't in a recession wasn't the "technical" definition lol.

I wouldn't be surprised next year if the NBER came out and said that 4th quarter 2009 was the trough of the recession. In case you didn't know, they are the group that determines what "technically" is a recession.

Lack of job growth is a major problem. The Labor Department said the number of newly laid-off workers filing claims for jobless benefits rose to a seasonally adjusted 531,000 last week, from an upwardly revised 520,000 the previous week. Wall Street economists had expected only a slight increase, according to Thomson Reuters.
