They found the body of the missing Jacksonville Fl little girl in a landfill in Georgia.

"There is a child killer on the loose… this is a heinous crime that has been committed," Bessler said. "Had we not done this tactic I believe this body would have been buried under hundreds of tons of debris and probably would never have been discovered."
...
Somer vanished on her mile-long walk home from school Monday in Orange Park. She was squabbling with another child, and her sister told her to stop. The girl got upset, walked ahead of the group and wasn't seen again.
Please include the other child and her sister in your prayers for Somer, her family and friends , that's a lot to live with for children they must be feeling horrible. I hope they catch the murderer very quickly.

Somer's father, Samuel Thompson, said on Wednesday he believed it was likely his daughter.
"I'm angry. I'm so angry. I'm so hurt," Thompson told Florida Times-Union as he wept. "My baby daughter laying in trash. Discarded like a piece of trash. God help the sons of bitches who hurt my daughter. They better find them."
Few other details about the body, such as a possible cause of death, were released. An autopsy is planned by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for Thursday morning, at which time the coroner can officially identify the body.

This is sad, I seen that a body had been found, I knew that somewhere a Mommy and a Daddy would be grieving, I hope that whoever did this is caught and severely punished.

ORANGE PARK, FL -- Investigators have identified the body of Somer Thompson, the 7-year-old girl who disappeared while walking home from school Monday afternoon.
Clay County Sheriff Rick Beseler said authorities made the identification through distinguished markings on the body found in trash Wednesday at the Chesser Island Landfill in Folkston, Georgia.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Clay County deputies and teams from the FBI are processing the crime scene.

I wass sooo hoping for a happy ending on this one. Very sad, and as hard as it is to accept that the little girl was killed, at least the family will have closure, so many never find a body:(
I wonder what led them to look there.

The little girl was found partially covered in a Georgia landfill near the Florida state line, after investigators followed garbage trucks leaving the neighborhood where Somer disappeared.
Beseler told an early-morning news conference that investigators searched through 100 tons of garbage before finding the missing child.
Smart investigators ...it was a good idea.

They'll catch whatever scum did this. It's amazing the amount of information you can gleen from garbage.

That irks me to no end.
Some of these kids are to young to be out there alone.
Parental negligence is a factor here.

...or how much actual evidence can be contaminated and rendered useless.

Everytime there is a child missing in Florida, it seems to always have a bad ending.
I heard that the little girl had run ahead of her group of friends who all walk home approximately a mile from school. And that there are 72-73 sexual predators listed in the area where they walked.
I thought predators were not allowed to live near children...

The punishment is high enough that the sickos have zero to lose by murdering the child.

The parents are not to blame, if they are to blame then so are the thousands of parents who let their kids walk to school. If the parents are to blame, then the transportation dpt is to blame for not providing buses within a mile radius.
Btw, she was with friends and siblings. I pray the friend nor the siblings blame themselves!

Usually they can't live within a certain radius of a school.
The scary thing is that the Sheriff was asked on the Today Show about whether the 72-73 figure was unusually high for a given area and he said that it was about average.
I've searched the online databases near my home and, thankfully, only have 7 in the general area. My brother-in-law who lives in Brooklyn has almost 3,000 near him.

I disagree. It's not negligent to have a child walk a mile. The only thing negligent is that the parents didn't insist the kids walk in a group.
I also predict that the murderer will turn out to have a record.

I too wondered why a 7 year old had to walk that far. I don't think the parent's are to blame and this really shouldn't be the focus here. But, I was a little surprised that a 7 year old was walking that far....even if there are other kids around.
This story is so sad. I hope whoever did this to her is found and punished severely.

Sure they are. Most states have rules about how close they can live to schools, parks, daycares, etc., but it would be impossible to say they can't live near children at all.
